As a retired Anesthesiologist having been involved in over 60,000 anesthetics, and personally administered over 30,000 myself, I found that the marijuana patients split into two categories. Some have an increased effect from normal anesthetic dosages, and our drugs doses have to be decreased. And some show significant resistance to our drugs and require much higher doses. Since most patients lie about their actual daily usage, I found it impossible to predict who would be in which group. From my perspective, I just give the drugs incrementally until I obtained the desired effect. It's not rocket science, it's art.

Alot of us daily cannabis users have sensory processing issues that present sub clinically and we are self medicating to deal with that. And people with sensory issues are known to have these types of reactions to pain medicine. My dad for example requires 5xs the normal dose of novacaine but he's extremely sensitive to full anesthesia. Also he's not a cannabis user just the sensory stuff that's undiagnosed cuz we don't smack our faces, scream or go non verbal etc

Can I ask you an unrelated question? I am addicted to a chemical called Phenibut HCL. I am in the long process of weening (it's very dangerous to go too fast) and have been consistent, but I'm still taking it. Phenibut a acts on GABA in much the same way Gabapentin does. I was offered a shoulder surgery for a shoulder that chronically dislocates, but I'm very nervous about the safety of anesthesia with it. What's your unofficial opinion?

@@innapinch7112 I'm happy to help. All our anesthetic drugs are very short acting. There is no prolonged effect from them greater than 24 hours. Most of my patients had nothing significant in their system, except for pain killers, by the time the surgery was over. Just take your normal dose of Pnenibut and we will compensate for any intraop effects. We can manage any unforeseen physiologic changes. Be sure to ask for a shoulder block. It will make your recovery so much easier, and you will need very little narcotic pain killers. As for risk, in the 35 years I practiced, I had no deaths, strokes, or heart attacks in my patients. I'm not bragging, I just saying that modern anesthetics are extremely safe. My experience is more the norm than the exception. I've had that surgery myself. It is well worth it to go through the procedure.

I had a doctor who tried to refuse to take me as the first patient of the day when I had a drug problem. This was for an endoscopy. He went ballistic that I could contaminate his equipment with HIV and hepatitis (which I have never had). After I threatened him with legal action for his discriminatory manner and the implication that he did not clean his equipment between patients, he reluctantly went ahead with the procedure. All without a pre-med injection or a throat numbing spray as he said he was concerned about drug interactions. I was tied to the bed to immobilise me and he kept the equipment in my oesophagus/stomach after I was wretching violently and showing very clear signs of distress. I had explained my drug use on admission and was told I should get extra pre-med due to my drug tolerance.

All nurses have to get their knees replaced. I go to church with a 30 year former nurse and she ran away from the surgeon for years. She now has new knees and new hips. She's thrilled to pieces and looks like she's had a facelift, which she has not had. She's just not in agony anymore.

I just want to start by saying that I respect what you are doing, by providing the information needed to the people. It is very very hard to trust a doctor with weed, drinking, drugs, cigarettes, etc. I told my surgeon that I had been sober from alcohol for over 15 yrs. They then flagged my chart as alcoholic, even thought it’s been 15 years. The stigma sticks on you. So a life saving surgery for me has now been cancelled because of something that when on for 6 month, got treatment for it and have no desire to go back to drinking. My experience telling a doctor about my past use of alcohol, has ended up cancelling surgery needed to live and now what is going to be end of life care. The system is very broken.

I'm a 64 yr. old heavy weed smoker. Just had an endoscopy / colonoscopy and thanks to this video I had an open and honest conversation with the anesthesiologist beforehand, came through with out any issues and, unlike a previous Propofol anesthesia, was calm and pleasant in post. I'm 66 years old. I have been smoking pot since I was 11 years old. I had full hip replacement surgery in 2019. I smoked up until surgery and a couple of puffs the morning of the surgery. I didn't know any of this before surgery. I'm very Blessed that nothing happened to me during and after surgery. Thank you for the information! I'm at the point where I'm going to stop smoking pot and think about my future and my health! I am very productive and assume my responsibilities daily. I'm at the point where it's time to stop! One thing I do attribute to smoking pot. At 66 years old, I am healthy and I don't take any prescription medications!

Diagnosed with Bi-polar & childhood PTSD about 17 years ago. I was in a motorcycle accident and have MANY debilitating injuries. I’ve had spinal fusion, 7 left knee surgeries, 5 left hand and arm surgeries, shoulder surgery, three right foot surgeries…just to name a few of the more serious injuries. I use medical marijuana to keep me off pills and keep my nausea at bay. I am always transparent to all drs and surgeons. It’s really refreshing to hear an educated doctor speak on cannabis and how it can interact with anesthesia. I'm a fellow spinal cord injury patient. Before Cannabis I was prescribed massive doses of Oxycontin, Gabapentin, etc. Cannabis is far more effective with far fewer negative side effects. I've never had a Anaesthesiaologist or any MD or nurse look down on or shame me for my choice. Quite the opposite. My two primaries the last 15yrs encourage my using Cannabis over Opioids as they've seen positive results for patients like me. If I'd followed Typical Western Medicine protocols, statistically according to actuary tables, I'm looking at many years in a wheelchair and in a nursing home. God willing, I'll continue to defy the statistics until I die an old man. Long-term care insurance is not available to me. No company is willing to write me a policy the last 15yrs. I can honestly say if I'd done what I was told post op, I'd have a morphine pump. That was actually recommended at one time by an Anaesthesiaologist/Pain Specialist who did nerve oblations in my spine to not much help.

Yes, you have to Keep doing it, there's no 'I'm Cured now!'.... actually Idk if that's true or not, but when I was doing Acupuncture, OMG, WOW. Just, Please check that out really!!! It's not covered by insurance unless you're VA, but it's relatively inexpensive & Worth More than Every Penny baby

It's the nerve pain that's the worst for most spinal cord injury patients. Pain so bad you'd agree to have limbs amputated to get rid of it...but the pain isn't in the limb(s).

Definitely, even if it’s not about the substances, it can be very defining for your experience whether or not you tell them everything. If you are embarrassed to tell your doctor or think it’s not important about symptoms or side effects, you could put yourself through needless suffering. I’m really glad I have great doctors I can be frank with, it is sad when patients cannot feel like they can talk to their doctor about personal things that are important to their medical care. I am part of a doctor-phobic population, so I see this every time I connect with others in this group.

They shame you into compliance at the VA. They told me to "Stay out dem books!" and to trust them because they are the experts. They believe only they can understand health related topics. They also say things like "You just think you're in pain" to gaslight you. Mental health holds groups where they insult you because of your race and blame you for things that happened 200 years before you were born. Best part is they can tell everyone you're a crazy and dangerous combat veteran so no one will believe you, until it happens to them. Shame because they really did help me before they went Woke in late 2015. The help for housing and schooling is still good but a lot of red tape. I'll never go to a doctor again, even if I'm shot and bleeding out. Seriously, I'll never go again. They multiplied my PTSD from the experiences. They also use that information against me to declare me "scary and dangerous" without stating what I'm doing or did that makes me so "scary and dangerous".

A lot of doctors are massively in the ego and treat you like a your totally beneath you. I did the job about a decade and left due to 50 percent of the time it being a rather topic environment.

I love knowing this now and I'm very glad I got on your channel and heard you talk about the different medications and the effects of combining them. I smoke on and off for pain. I have also always told my medical team well in advance and you back up what they say. This is an awesome channel am I appreciate you for your honesty and frankness and not being negative about use. My support team tells me just what you said usually it's like surgeries in 2 weeks you need to chill out. Surgery is an important issue in your life and will always be that. Never heard it as in the depth that you are sharing and your honesty is absolutely appreciated and informative! Marijuana won't adversely affect a single other psychoactive substance, I suppose it can affect blood pressure slightly, and makes you slightly paranoid. I wish he went into an actual reason it would. I’m a disabled veteran who suffers with a longterm opiate dependence issue. I was continuously prescribed opiates by an army doc and unlike what many say I’m greatful for him. I’m so happy he did not allow the stigma with opiate prescribing affect his desire to help me. I had 3 herniated disks in a combat situation oct15 2008. At the same time my best friend was shot standing 10 feet in front of me. That doctor actually treated me and my brother so I feel like he likely had sympathy for me. Needles to say I’ve been on buponorphine since 2012 and I ABSOLUTLEY cannot get off of It without becoming suicidal. I’ve heard of the IV treatment you mentioned and would love to see more about it. I’m willing to try anything aside from being placed into a coma which is about the only way I see anything working to be honest and yes it’s that bad. I am a combat vet and a very hardened masculine man so just fyi for anyone who thinks that being manly is what it takes to treat opiate addiction is ignorant

I used to be a Marijuana user. I'm fortunate enough to not have an addictive personality, so I had no troubles stopping smoking, the same for Tabaco and Alcohol. And I have never tried any other form of drugs that were not prescribed and never formed any addictions to those that were, despite being told they were highly addictive. I really think it depends on the individual. I have switched to Non-THC CBD edibles for pain use only when absolutely necessary. I recently had to be put under using Fentanyl for emergency surgery and informed them I had been taking CBD for weeks to help cope with the unbearable pain. I don't use any other pain killers like ASA or acetaminophen due to their ineffectiveness and side effects, especially with long term use. They told me it wasn't an issue, and it wasn't in this case, the operation went really well. So I'm really surprised to learn this and thank you for taking the time out of your day to share this very informative information with us.

I can attest to the "not very fun" situation of waking up during a surgery. Had two knee surgeries approximately 1 year apart, I had informed my doctor's of my cannabis usage and was told not to consume for at least a week before surgery. I did as instructed and woke up right at the end of the surgery. The look on the faces of everyone in the room was "oh shit!". Thankfully they were done. The second time was not cool. I had started edibles to reduce the amount of opiates I was taking so the saturation levels were MUCH higher.. I woke up to the sensation of something being snipped and pressure. After being resedated they finished but the anesthesiologist and I had a conversation after surgery about exactly how much and how strong my edibles were. After providing one of the edibles I was taking for testing and a redo of my blood work I was told about the conflicting qualities of the two. He said I had an insanely saturated system (cannabis) and that was the reason I woke up. Even stopping a week before surgery. After years of being prescribed opiates, I used edibles to get off them and have been in much better shape since, both physically and mentally. This was approximately 12 years ago.

So it's possible to get off opiates (long term user) I switched to methadone about 5 yrs ago and will finally be getting to the 30 mgs mark. I'm also a medical marijuana patient for my PTSD. Many people have said this, I just don't see how marijuana could help ANY symptoms of Opioid withdrawal. But if you did it, I can too. Were edibles the way to go? Flower? I don't do carts anymore I think they aren't good for you overall.

@@analogueoverdigital929 it was a combination of tramadol the first month with strong edibles and RSO (Rick Simpson oil). I was on the opiate train for 16yrs. You are probably going to have to take a couple weeks off to begin the process as the withdrawals can be pretty intense and definitely consult with your doctor in case you have other medical conditions. It was probably the most difficult thing I've done but WELL WORTH IT. It took my body a couple years to fully recover after stopping. Will power and a good support group my friend. Best of luck with your journey, you can do it.

CBD has been proven to help people with opioids and nicotine addiction it helps more with the withdrawal than the cravings but it can help with not having too many cravings flower or edibles will work depending on which form of CBD you want to consume

I just had pre-op on the 21st, I was speaking with the Doctor and she asked about drug use. I told her that I smoke marijuana, I have G.I issues and marijuana helps with my appetite. She was more concerned with my smoking of cigarettes, and referred me to a lung doctor for some studies. This put my surgery off by at least 6 months. Gotta be careful in the states that aren’t legal bc they will not give you the same treatment with pain relieving drugs and so forth if you smoke… IE.. they are gonna drug test you in order to treat you with pain meds if you have surgery and you need more than just Vicodin. Trust me I had to have a very safe private talk with my GI AFTER living in a legal state and having a recommendation for use by a doctor I just brought it back To my home state where they wanted to put it in my file and I said absolutely not bc it could’ve gotten me red flagged on everything and later I had 22 consecutive surgeries removing all of my small intestine so I needed pain meds but also need MJ for nausea, anxiety and appetite with me having GI problems (Crohn’s disease)

Going to VA clinic; Using a Class A drug, (which the federal government collect taxes on) if a VA doctor said that the treatment isn't working because of your use. Excellent information. I recently had oral surgery. It's the 3rd time in my life I was put under (I was much younger for the first 2 times). My doctor instructed me to not use THC products 2 days prior to the operation. This was easy for me as I only take some THC (I'm debating currently if quality weed vs vaping is the better choice) late evening to help me sleep, which works wonders. It is extremely rare that I have a poor sleep now. I suffered commonly from insomnia. I almost never take any medication even for pain other than extreme headaches (very, very rare for me). I'd prefer to not use THC, but I can work, body build, and sleep wonderfully now, so I continue to balance it's use as best I can. My point however, is under my first 2 times under anesthesia (I did not take THC back then), it took me days to recover from it (nurses had a terrible time waking me up). I informed my doctor of this. After this operation, I woke up easily. I was clear headed, balanced and was rather shocked to be honest. My doctor knew I used some THC, and understood my sensitivity to anesthesia. I feel they did a wonderful job and I thanked them. Be clear and open to your medical team. Make sure they listen. My fears have diminished greatly now. They did a great job. I should add that I did a light fast prior to this operation. I wanted to reduce my body inflamation. My recovery was fast and without complications. I have no idea if this contributed to that, but I believe it did.

I take 60 mg of FULL SPECTRUM CBD OIL, which I use to control the high caused by the THC. I know this works because I can smoke weed all day and feel not much of a buzz. Some of the other effects are present, like spaciness, and short-term memory loss. I'm 71 and doing well over 200 mg of THC everyday, without being stoned or distracted. Cannabinoids help recoveries in ways you can't imagine. I've seen this in my last 4 surgeries, and when my partner went in for a couple of different procedures, one of which was not an optimal experience. PTSD has resulted from that one. when I got her out of recovery I gave her 50mg of full spectrum CBD oil, and a THC infused caramel. Got her home and got her started on her regimen, and she recovered quickly, and I love how I keep hearing how well she recovered and how great she looks afterwards. She doesn't talk about her cannabis use, as she is also a cancer patient, and hasn't enough scientific resources to explain what she does and what she gets from it. It makes me nervous when she has to deal with doctors at a catholic hospital. NO compassion in that place, I'll tell ya.

There are some people who react badly to de-polarizing medications used as anesthesia like succynocholine also called SUX, brand name Anectine. Ask which types of drugs were used with each surgery so you know which ones to avoid.

Before I give you my perspective, this is merely my personal experience: at age 76 I was involved in a life ending auto accident. My car was broadsided [on the passenger side] at approximately 80 MPH. I was simply in the wrong place at the right time. I was not wearing my seat belt at the time (I'll explain later). Needless to say, I wound up in the ER, hanging on to life by a thread. In fact, I flatlined three times before the surgeon began her operation. Obviously, I survived by the sheer will of a surgeon, on weekend duty, who decided she can save a life. That fateful day, March 13, 2021, I was having a great time with my dog at the dog park on a sunny, warm day. My dog was a two year old pitbull mix, who I rescued from the street. This poor guy had such separation anxiety that I couldn't leave him alone for any length of time. One day, I had to pick up a pair of glasses, and it took longer than I had anticipated, but Rio was okay in the car. Wrong! I was gone for about 15 minutes, but that was enough time for this dog to chew through every seat belt in the car. Anxiety? I should think so. So, that's why I wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time. Now, for my personal experience...I'm a marijuana smoker, have been all my adult life. That's the reason I became interested in Dr. Kaveh's video about marijuana and surgery. My injuries were so extensive that I wasn't expected to survive. Nobody was able to ask whether I had THC in my system, and I obviously had plenty. Was I just lucky that I had an experienced anesthesiologist on duty, along with an incredibly skillful surgeon, who wouldn't give up on an old man on her operating table? There's no real answer for that, other than, to tell you this: I'm now 79, and I still smoke marijuana. Am I addicted? Sure, but in defense of my addiction, I don't smoke cigarettes, no alcohol, and other than the incredible injuries I now deal with daily, I'm in pretty good health. The message I have for all you folks who smoke marijuana: Don't get freaked out about this doctor's study about addiction. I have learned through all this, that, death happens, and life happens. We don't have control of that. Live your life as best you can, and if smoking (or ingesting edibles) is your thing, embrace it and be happy with life. It can be taken from you in a fraction of a second, regardless of what a Dr. Kaveh may tell you about addiction and surgery. If you are granted the next minute of life, live it, don't let others do it for you. P.S. Rio survived the accident with minor injuries, and he was adopted from animal control within a few days. I was still in ICU when they asked what I wanted to do with the dog...I had to give him up. Now, by some miracle, I have a wonderful, six year old German Shepherd by my side 24/7, and life is good as I spark up a big fat, and enjoy this day. 😎

Since I had uterine cancer and started smoking during chemo and radiation it's impossible for me to get an appetite without it. I also have PTSD really bad and the marijuana helps me sleep. I became addicted to Oxycontin back when I had cancer and then I was on Methadone for 17yrs but 5yrs ago I switched to Suboxone. I've detoxed myself from 24mgs down to 2mgs. If it wasn't for marijuana I wouldn't have been able to do it. I do plan to wean down on my marijuana use after I complete the Suboxone detox, I just have to do 1 thing at a time. I appreciate you being open to having this conversation, I became an Integrated Healthcare Recovery Support Specialist in 2019 and now I work in the psychiatric field helping others with their mental health and substance abuse disorder and I am definitely going to share this information.

I had a family member who needed hip replacement. We were taking opioids and alternating edibles every other day prior to surgery to help manage pain. We were worried about becoming addicted to the opioids. The doctor was aware of the protocol and did not have a problem with it. This was back when no one knew the reactions pot had with other mediation. After surgery the blood pressure was a lot lower than it should have been. Hi, I had double hernia surgery 4 weeks ago. I "was" a lifetime smoker of cannabis and fearing the worst before surgery I went on a bender. Consequently, I was hard to get anesthetized, and when they were taking out mouth tube, I woke up and ripped out my blood cables and it took 6 Dr's and nurses to hold me down. They hit me with other drugs, which didn't work, and they finally used Ketamine to knock me out. I have no recollection of it. I have now stopped smoking for 4 weeks and actually feel better for it. Don't smoke before surgery.

Common sense not to…. I’m a smoker but I don’t smoke much … a joint at the most… I never had surgery. I got my wisdom teeth pulled but I wasn’t put to sleep or anything. But I did mention it to my dentist that I smoke & he told me not to smoke Wait for three days… and I did …. I stop for about a year& started back… I’m not a heavy smoker though. I used to smoke, at no point in time were there any issues with anesthesia, nor did I have a problem with anesthesia being effective. They gave me a more powerful anesthesia because I smoked..... once. It caused me physical pain. It was too much. It felt like my vein was on fire. I could feel it working it's way up my arm. Holy shit! I love you! As a human with CPTSD, much of it from chronic childhood illnesses, multiple multiple bouts of anesthesia for multiple surgeries and procedures, chronic pain, patient. Latest is fentanyl, patch and oxycodone daily, heavy weed smoker, and this last year started micro-dosing psilocybin with incredible results! (got off of Adderol and Diazepam) journaling, meditation is easier to get to…This is wonderful, wonderful information and will be looking for your other videos as so much of what you’re saying is important to me! I've been a mostly daily smoker for 25 yrs. I've had a hysterectomy, colonoscopy, breast cancer surgery, major surgery on my nose for skin cancer and a couple of major dental surgeries. No one talked to me about any of that. The only time I had an issue with anesthesia was in my 20s (long before I smoked weed) when I 'woke up' during a D&C and could feel everything, hear everything but couldn't move or scream or even open my eyes for what seemed like a long time. Eventually I made a noise and they slapped a mask on me so hard I bit the inside of my cheek. No one even said anything about it later! I was busy dealing with a miscarriage. I've never had any issues with sedation or pain meds after major surgery and usually have half of them left over. I was honest at a doctor's office ONCE. That once item ended up in bold print on the front of all my paperwork, and in a record system used by other providers from other companies! Because of that when I made an appointment for severe sciatica type pain, they refused to even see me unless I signed a form agreeing to random 24 hr notice drug tests. I told them I haven't even asked for pain meds, I want to know what is causing the pain. They refused to see me. It wasn't until a decade later, in a different state with clean records and no talk of cannabis that they finally found I have a 9cm x 13 cm x 5 cm schwannoma growing all over my back that causes the chronic pain and gave me pain meds I needed. So, NO, I will not be honest ever again.

One big benefit to legalization is that we will be able to get accurate medical information without the hype and hysteria. I live in a state where it was legalized, and it really helps to be less afraid to discuss such things with your doctor.

Thank you for being honest and allowing us to advocate for ourselves without rolling eyes because we want to. My Dr. Recently retired and I can’t even find one available for a simple yearly checkup. I go to the doctor once a year and it’s pretty sad I can’t find one doctor in my area taking new patients!

Thank you for this information. I hope to never have to have another surgery, but you never know. I recently started trying a cannabis edible for chronic pain. I’ve only taken it once, but it seemed to work. I have never used cannabis/marijuana before in my life and I’m dang near 70.

I had surgery a few years ago and i remember the nurse or someone asking me if i was awake yet. I sorta yelled at her, "no, I'm still sleeping, stop trying to wake me up". I'm sorry for being mean to you, please forgive me, thank you for taking care of me and being patient with me!

Thank you, I am a 60 year old woman and I have been using for 35 years. I take blood pressure pills and thats it. I dont like rx meds and I have arthritis and pain from an old fracture hip. It helps me. But thank you for the information.❤

Thank you. I found this video very helpful. For me it’s low level anxiety, but more then that, bad insomnia. I was aware to stop 1 month before any surgeries, but it was never explained to me why. I haven’t had to have surgery in decades, but the last time I was put under was for 7 teeth to be removed before I got braces. When I woke up, I couldn’t recognize who my mom was. So I’m not exactly fond of going under. I’ve been given oxycodone’s before for a car accident injury and taking it for 3 days took 7 days for me to eat normal again. I do not respond well to those class of drugs, yet herbal has always helped. This is very thorough and you’re a good teacher at explaining. I hope you continue these videos.

This answered so many questions for me. In the past when I use to smoke on a daily basis, I had several time that I woke up during some surgeries, or it took a lot to get me under. I have always mentioned this to the anesthesiologist when I was going to have surgery. Now that I don’t smoke anymore, I haven’t had that issue during my last few times I’ve been put under. I’ve always just thought is was from having a high tolerance. Thanks for shining a light on this topic for me.

As a nurse of 40 yrs and working in a preop/postop area, I have noticed a dramatic increase in Marijuana use. When you ask if they smoke they immediately think of Cigarettes. When asked or probed further some will admit Marijuana but probable most are not honest with how often and how much. Its very important to know after listening to this because we are the ones treating nausea and pain after surgery in the recovery period .Thanks for the great lecture!

This BS covid hit. I found out there are a lot of fake doctors and nurses up there. I found out a lot of them are for what they called the pharmaceutical nurse doctors. Pharmaceutical company's need customers. So they have doctors that do their dirty work. They don't want you to heal . That's why it tells you about side effects. this and that may cause this. And then they give you another pill on top of that. And say it's to help. Until one day you keep accepting those pills and you find out. You take over 20 different medications and your life has been drained out of you. Your connection to the Divine is completely blocked. Because of the pills. The pharmaceutical company knows this. Evil minions always have ways to cut you off from God. And that's why the world has gotten darker full of evil. Because of the pills... Anytime I have to take pills or something I get sick. So I can't take them. I feel weird in my body. And it's not supposed to do that l. those are bad chemicals in those pills. And they want you to believe that oh you have to accept that. No you don't. that's your body telling you the chemicals are not for your human body.

The reason why people do not want to tell their doctors is that anything you say can be put in your medical records, which insurance companies and potentially law enforcement can have access to. Patients should be guaranteed complete privacy which unfortunately isn't the case.

We appreciate the honest and clearly explained information that relates to use of Cannabis alongside anesthesia. Great information and it means more coming from a doctor who understands the Pharmacokinetics and potential psychological effects or differences that individuals can experience. It's one complex chemistry experiment in our bodies. The more we add into our system, the further complicated it becomes. The stigma is certainly harsh and creates an environment non-conducive to harm reduction. So thanks for speaking out on hard to speak on topics.

I use the weed after the surgery to counteract the nausea from the anesthesia I get really awful nausea.

A lot of people don't want to believe you because they know it helps them. That's why and I'm the same way I wouldn't believe you either. Hell, my doctor told me I could smoke the day of my surgery.

I had 8 teeth surgically removed a few weeks ago and after the op i received a script for painkillers and antibiotics (the doctor yold me that it is very important that i complete the course of antibiotics). When i got home i was in severe pain and bleeding, instead of the prescribed medication i swirled some of my own recipe of cannabis ointment around in my mouth. The pain and the bleeding stopped almost immediately. I repeated the treatment until my mouth had healed completely. I had a check-up after about 2 weeks and the doctor was surprised how quickly i healed ( i had more than 30 stitches in my mouth after the op. I am 70 years old

I have a relatable story. I had my first surgery a few months ago and I asked the doctor about my prior drug use and if it could affect my anesthesia. I was worried my opioid addiction may have affected my bodies tolerance for certain medications. And I also asked about the delta-8 gummies I consume. They didn't seem to be concerned but thanked me for mentioning it and made a note.

In New Zealand there was a good study done on cbds ability to relieve pressure and inflammation on the kidneys and allows them to recover and regenerate nephrons which have been deprived of life. I quit taking all 13 medications my nephrologist asked me to take at 5% function; I was throwing up every day all day; they put me on promethazine, I was asleep for 22 hours a day and my body was in so much pain from all the different pharmaceutical drugs. I started using pill form cbds in high does; my function went from 5% to 28% and I still do not take anything. They wrote in my chart I was uncooperative for not taking the medications they said “we’re what ALL kidney failure patients have to take!” Never felt better. More study needs to be done.

I’ve been honest about my marijuana use with my doctors for years. Oddly, not one of them talked to me about my drug use prior to my full hysterectomy…my massive rotator cuff tear and detached bicep muscle or my two knee replacements. They also didn’t talk to me AT ALL about the opioids they put me on, so that I had no idea, on the first operation, why when I tried to get off of them , I experienced all kinds of withdrawal affects. When I asked them why I was feeling so emotional, had the shakes, etc…they said I probably needed to be on anti depressants. I had to educate myself (google) before further surgeries. Doctors need a HUGE education in this stuff!

My husband experienced a similar thing, although he wasn't on marijuana then. After an accident the doctors were giving him all kinds of opiates and didn't tell him anything about it, and when he went home AMA he had no idea why he was so sick! He had become addicted! He realized the pills were poison and that the doctors were essentially killing him. So he started on cannabis and hasn't looked back. As a doctor, one would think you knew what was in the meds you prescribe. Each one of the pills my husband was given contained huge amounts of acetaminophen, which is highly hepatotoxic. Unless you are given straight forms of opiates, such as injectable morphine sulphate, KEEP TRACK of the doses of acetaminophen and keep them to a one-person amount.
