Thanks so much for posting this! That is in fact my Mom on the third game as contestant #3. She has passed away now so this is very special to me as her son. Seeing her at only 23 years old and hearing how different her voice was is simply amazing. Thanks so much!

Bill Thompson was a marvelous voice actor. A few years after this program aired, he began doing the voice of Hanna Barbera's "Touche' Turtle" on the series "Touche' Turtle and Dum Dum." As a boy who grew up with HB cartoon in the 60's, I always enjoyed that unique, timid voice! It was only later that I became very interested in old time radio. So, when I first heard the Wallace Wimple character on Fibber McGee and Molly, I thought to myself " Hey, that's the same voice as Touche' Turtle!!! Bill Thompson was a tremendous, versatile voice actor.

Bill Thompson also voiced Droopy the dog, for Tex Avery. Reportedly, Tex heard Bill's Mr. Wimple on Fibber McGee and Molly, and developed Droopy, especially to be voiced by Bill.

I am a huge fan of 'Fibber McGee and Molly'; Bill Thompson was truly the most gifted actor on that great old program! When he was five years old, actor Bill Thompson lost his voice campaigning around the country selling Liberty bonds; America had just entered World War I. Now, if you’ve ever listened to a broadcast of Fibber McGee & Molly or watched a Droopy cartoon, you know that Thompson’s voice eventually returned, but it took two years of throat exercises to fully recover. What’s more, Bill discovered as he got older that he was able to switch back and forth from bass to tenor with very little effort. (Doctors later determined that the actor’s ability to do this was a direct result of the temporary voice loss in his youth.) Combined with a fine comedic sense, the man born William H. Thompson in 1913 in Terre Haute, Indiana enjoyed a long and prosperous career on radio, in cartoons, and in movies, providing voices for many of all three mediums’ most memorable characters. Bill Thompson’s hawking of Liberty bonds was done while he was in vaudeville, where he performed as a song-and-dance man alongside his parents; he was a stage veteran at age two, making his debut performing a tap dance. He’d transition from the boards to a microphone in 1932 after a successful audition with NBC, garnering attention with a routine called “International Parade”; which included demonstrations of ten different dialects. Thompson then appeared on such programs as 'The Breakfast Club', 'Club Matinee', 'The Hoofinghams', and 'The Saturday Night Jamboree'.

Murray Rose--a vegetarian (almost vegan) when this was very rare, especially for an athlete. And quite a good advertisement for the diet, I'd say. Horatio K. Boomer sounds like W.C. Fields and Wallace Wimple sounds like Droopy! Very interesting show.

The first two panelists to ask questions in Game 2 totally failed to understand that the contestant was only pretending to be Danish. They kept asking questions about Denmark that the right one wouldn't know and the impostors might or might not know (but could lie as if they didn't know, even if they did).

Kitty Carlisle should have disqualified herself, as she was WELL With in the Time frame of 'Fibber McGee & Molly', and probably might have even sat in on one of the original radio broadcast. Just how Stupid were these panelist, during this particular questioning? Instead of trying to trip-up an avowed 'phony/imposter' why didn't they zero in on the important questions concerning their involvement with the old 'FMG&M' show? WTH?!

Murray Rose was 73 when he died, the same age my moms dad (my grandpa) died who smoked like a chimney and ate everything this guy didn't, except my grandpa wasn't much into fish either, while I love it on the other hand. And he was born in the 1930s as well and died 3 years before Murray did (so my grandpa was about 3 years older). Not saying either way of life is better but I think the health benefits of a so called vegan and vegetarian diet are exaggerated to make it sound like you will live a lot longer which in most cases have not been proven factual.

W. Wimple was one of the funniest characters on FM & M. One time, he was telling McGee how his "big ol' wife" has been opening his mail. McGee says, "Gosh Wimp-- you mean you LET your wife open your mail?" Wallace chuckles sadly and answers, "Yes, Mr. McGee. And I also let the sun rise each and every morning...." For what it's worth, there's a very large cache of the series over at radioechoes.com .
