Polly Bergen,bless her heart,was definitely not the brightest bulb on the tree.

david brown - may be so, but in my eyes Polly distinguishes herself every time she appears just by being the most beautiful women ever to appear on a game show!!

david brown - I watch 3 old classic shows on a daily rota: What's My Line I've Got a Secret To Tell the Truth, Very entertaining shows with some wonderful people, most sadly no longer with us but what they have left behind is wonderful. KAN 9.19 UK

I meant no harm to the legacy of Polly Bergan. She was a gorgeous LADY.and from what I understand , a very giving person.I just meant that on a few occasions it seemed that her thought process left for a moment.I too, watch a lot of old game shows and movies from the 50's and early 60's. They bring back a lot of good memories of a time that was much more civil and simple.

david brown - the early What's My Line shows are a joy to watch like some Grace Kelly movie with Arlene Francis and Dorothy Killgallen coming on in their gowns and all the guys so smart in their suits and bow ties. Cultured and polite times all gone.

Shortly after this episode Donald Campbell has a serious accident while attempting to break a record on land. Seven years later he died while trying to beat a water record.
Gosh, maybe it's because I've lived right on the Canadian border my whole life and have many Canadian relatives, but EVERYONE in Canada should know that people from Newfoundland are nicknamed *NEWFIES* . It is *really* odd that none of them knew.

I guessed who the Canadians really were because they seemed to speak with a nice neutral Canadian accent.

They didn't ask a single question concerning their performance as skaters but then TV really didn't cover it like they did later. Today it's barely covered at all. I miss "Wide World of Sports," 🎈🎈

Is Newfie a pejorative term? I wondered if that was the reason no one wanted to say it.

@@ironduke2000 Yes. That term is considered insulting to one's intelligence. Newfoundlanders are actually some of the cleverest, kindest and most resilient people in our country!

Unfortunately, today it’s always acceptable and the ability of people to hide behind social media profiles has made it that much easier for people to be downright abusive.

In Round # 2, the "Popcorn King" was unable to define what a "trailer" meant. At some point in the last couple of decades, "trailer" has replaced "preview" to refer to a coming attraction at the movie theater. I'd like to know when this switch took place--and why the much more self-explanatory "preview" has fallen into disuse.
@janeiwasduncan84635 жыл бұрын
I could never understand how a "trailer" could come before the movie..a trailer should come behind something like that thing that a car drags behind it. PRE ViEW comes before the movie. Somebody please bc explain...if you can!!🎈🎈

@@janeiwasduncan8463 Yes, I've always found that expression strange too, and annoying. Guess no one knows the reason for the change!

Trailers were shown after the main movie. They were moved to before the movie because people were leaving the theater when the movie was over, but the word stuck.
