Thanks for this. There is such a shortage of Diablo content out there it boggles the mind. This car was THE supercar of the 1990s but to look online you would think it was an afterthought. I worked at a Toyota dealership the summer of 1998, my senior year of high school. The owner of the dealership also had an exotic car dealership and would often bring his toys around. One night he left a red Diablo VT in the service bay after hours. Me and my buddy opened the scissor doors and hopped in. We didn’t dare drive it but just getting to sit in it we nearly lost our minds.

It was 1997, I was a spacey 11-year-old, daydreaming in the window seat of a tour bus with a bunch of other boys from the U.S. as we putted down an English freeway. All of the sudden, a chorus of boys erupted with this strange exclamation: "Lam-bor-ghi-niiiii!!!!" A yellow flash, a screaming engine howl, and this sculptural wedge that was somehow the footprint of a car yet roughly 3 inches tall, disappearing into the distance on steamrollers tires. That was it: the fraction of a second where this automotive agnostic became a diehard enthusiast. Your videos are always a cut above, and this one was an absolute masterpiece. Thank you!

One little suggestion: Turn the music down a little bit when Derek is doing the voice over since his voice is rather soft and gentle so sometimes it‘s bit hard to hear from rocking synth-wave background music

Audio mixing is really hard, we see this mistake a lot. I'm going to guess that the editor's audio is compromised for any variety of totally reasonable reasons, and on their setup, it probably sounds fine. But I agree, the music needs quite a few DB of ducking during the voiceover.

Just a few years ago, as recently as 2020, this car was completely invisible to all but the most die-hard Lamborghini enthusiasts. Now, this car has reached total celebrity status - everyone at car shows gawks over a Diablo (sometimes, even more than an aventador or countach). It’s kind of endearing honestly. I never thought this car would ever be cool again, even after it was featured in all the 90s racing video games.

The Diablo has one of the nicest supercars of all time, especially the later variants like the SE30, SV, VT Roadster like this one, VT 6.0 etc.... Here's why the Diablo is actually one of the greatest in Lambo history 1. First Lambo to hit 200mph 2. First Lambo to hit 500bhp+ 3. First Lambo to introduce roadster edition like this one. Man that looks beautiful and timeless 4. First Lambo to take out Soo many variants 5. First Lambo that actually paved the modern day Lambo V12 design. 2 front vents, 3 on each side and 2 in the rear. Still being utilized today. 6. It was the first Lambo to bring balance of timeless aesthetics, the sound, the usability etc 7. First Lambo to have million different interior designs as well. Later variants like the VT 6.0 had a game changing interior. 8. Last of the real raw Lambo 9. Lambo was never meant to be perfect and that's what the Diablo brought. The Aventador etc are just too fake in my opinion. Everything about them screams Audi 10. One of the best sounding Lambos and general supercar of all time. Don't believe me? Watch the Lamborghini Diablo GT Bonus: Last Lambo to be part of racing heritage Diablo as mentioned above in my opinion is one of the most underappreciated supercars of all time despite the fact that it literally did so much for Lamborghini (mentioned above) Timeless design, uncontested 🔥🔥😕....I am super glad to see their value increasing substantially now Never will forget what Need for Speed 3 stated "when you drive a Diablo, you can expect to be the center of attention wherever you go, it's that kind of car" words that are even true today Id take a SV, SE30 or GT over any modern day V12 Lambo Lastly, you can never forget the words of Jeremy Clarkson "The Diablo was designed to be the biggest head turner". Very true

Too bad magazines are dead. DTS has a "belle plume" and his lines deserve to be read on paper. Here's a suggestion: a coffee table kind of book (i.e. hardcover book with glossy pictures) compiling DTS' reviews, published yearly or evey couple years. That would make a great Christmas gift for a car enthusiast... like me. ;)

It was supposed to look like the Cizeta V16T. When Chrysler bought them, the design was rounded. I followed the very tumultuous history, in several car magazines throughout the 80's and 90's. I love the David E Davis quote. I got to meet him once in a northern Michigan bookstore. If I had lots of money, I would prefer the Diablo over lots of other cars. Thanks.

Derek, I’ve owned a V12 Ferrari since 2017 and the car you drove, the 1999 Diablo Roaster was always my dream car! Unfortunately I think I missed my opportunity to buy one seeing as now a Diablo Roadster seems to be around $300,000 to $450,000 or more. To me the Diablo Roadster was always the ultimate Lamborghini. It’s still a car that requires your constant attention while driving but it’s almost a transitional period piece when Lamborghini went from almost an animal that wants to kill you to the more German engineered Murcielago which almost anyone can drive. Great video!

I always have a wry smile when I watch a Countach or Diablo owner pull away gingerly at very low revs, confirming the owner is mindful of the cost of a replacement clutch and the very short lifespan of of one used like a regular car, or in anger.

Call me crazy, but I think some jank should be part of the Lamborghini experience. That's one reason the post-Volkswagen buyout cars have never really excited me. OK, it's built in Italy and looks like a Lamborghini, but the guts were made by VAG engineers and it feels like an Audi. Great for people who just want their expensive car to work, but not very exciting.
