Super video, as usual. And from this video, one can see that the animosity between Catalan and the rest of Spain has been a long running affair.

No, catalan separatism only started being a thing almost 200 years later.

The irony of it all the British wanted freedom for the Catalans but not for the majority of Irish people who were Catholic and many of whom were in the Irish Brigades of the French army post Williamite wars in the recent past the opening graphics mentions Great Britain but not Ireland!leave comments no censorship.

Did the Irish actually have a vendetta against the Catalans or are you syaing this because Irishmen served in the French and Spanish armies?
@sandrabrowne2350
@sandrabrowne2350 8 ай бұрын
@@FieldMarshalYT just read text to your question simply no the Irish had no vendetta against the Catalans I personally have been in Catalonia many times respect language culture etc but given historical period Penal Laws in full force never debated much in Britain and its consequences in Ireland 🇮🇪 at the time I can only understand the mind of Irish soldiers in the Irish Brigades regardless of who they fighting against but particularly the British where they were involved in this new global warfare as the War of Spanish Succession was ,in the mind of most Irish nationalist the wrongs of the past like Catalans has nor been exercised eg Northern Ireland but will be eventually peacefully under GFA yes the past still haunt us as Brexit opened a " can of worms", " Pandora's Box" whatever its seems from historical viewpoint to talk about " Atlantic Slave Trade " but but Irish history is no go area for English historians including topic mentioned earlier in discourse. LONG LIVE Ireland and the Irish Brigades!

@@Archer-op9cp 1) Nobody knows what can happen until it happens, according to your own theory Ukraine should have surrendered without a shot because everyone predicted that it could not resist the Russian invasion and that the war would last 3 days. The same could be said of the UK during WWII alone after the fall of all its allies in Europe to Hitler. The situation could have changed on the continent and the war could have been renewed for any reason, Felipe V could have died choking on a chicken bone and Archduke Carlos could once again be the only claimant to the Spanish throne. Who among them could know what we know? 2) What they did know was that surrendering would not have spared the Castilian repression, there would have been executions, rapes and looting by the occupation troops as has always happened. What they did know was that the constitutions and liberties of Catalonia would be lost, that education in their language would be persecuted and prohibited because it had already happened in the other territories of the Old Crown of Aragon that supported Archduke Carlos: Valencia and Aragon. 3) There have been nations that have fought and lost their freedom, some have disappeared from our memory or their memory has been erased by the victor. But no one has written or will ever remember the nations surrendered to their enemy, to their invader without the slightest resistance, to those who allowed themselves to be assimilated without further ado. We, the Catalans proudly remember our past, the sacrifice of those who gave their lives in 1713-14 defending the country, its laws and its freedom are honored every year, their example, their unrelenting struggle, are the flame of the desire for freedom that 300 years later it still persists, our nation is not free but it is alive and while there is life there is hope. I doubt that if they had surrendered without a fight today the Catalan nation or its language would exist, persecuted relentlessly ever since. VISCA CATALUNYA LLIURE!
