As much as I love the writing, the art, and the soundtrack of Silent Hill 2, and despite spending days on the Silent Hill Wiki and Masahiro Ito's Twitter, I found its gameplay terribly boring and it's one of the few Silent Hill games I've never had any interest in replaying. The remake changed that. I agree that the mannequins are annoying as hell and that some other changes are odd, but the remake is actually fun to play while keeping almost everything that made the OG great. I even believe that it is much closer to what Team Silent imagined back in the day but couldn't create due to technical limitations. Especially after The Medium, I didn't expect that from Bloober Team at all. James' actor and the new endings are incredible.

I wish they would include the original games as emulated versions with those remakes. So people new to those games can appreciate both the OG versions as well as the new vision. And maybe even add developers commentary which goes into detail what made them change certain things. Like a Criterion movie release. I already wanted that with the Resident Evil remakes kinda. There is something about the awkwardness how old horror games control which somehow fits the theme. I can understand the frustrations though :D

That is fair. The OG definitely had its issues, and it can be considered boring if you don't quite vibe with it

I have to finish the game first, but once I do, I will watch this! So far I can say that the first three hours have not been amazing, but alright. I have the feeling that this would also be true for the original for me, though.

I'm kinda not surprised 😂

I should finally check out the PS2 original. Somehow, the remake doesn't give me the "right vibe". Your review has the right vibe though, cool stuff and hope to see more here again soon 👻💫
