This mix is just...astounding. I don't even have words for it. I've listened to this so many times and it has NEVER ceased to make my heart stop for a second and fill me with nostalgia. It just makes me so happy I can't explain. This was the first game I ever bought and it blew my mind when I played it. It was all I could think about for months. To this day I can still feel that excitement when I play the game and when I hear this song. It just...it captures the feeling of adventure and excitement in a way that I didn't know you could. I played my wii at my grandpas house , mario galaxy was the 2nd game i ever played, absolutely loved it as a 4 year old, I beat the game (Fully with green stars) within 2 years. Playing galaxy 2 was the best experience ive ever had in a game. Me. as a 5 year old had soo many memerirs playing it, yet i still havent beat The Perfect Run. When i was 4 i didint know i would still love mario as a 11 year me does now. With Oddessy coming out ive been imtroduced to a new new machanic that just wasnt as good as the galaxys. I loved the era of my life that showed how much people can be sucked into somthing that i can see more than just a game (I cried while writing this XD)

Hey, thanks for commenting! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I could write a very long essay about things that I personally do to make instruments sound real, but if I had to condense it to a couple of general points: - Use good instrument sample libraries. There's some great free stuff out there but most really good libraries are quite expensive. These libraries will do many things to make instruments sound real, such as adding velocity layers, portamento, round robin, articulations, etc. Basically, they do a really good job at emulating what a real instrument player will do to produce sound. I do want to say though that this is only part of the job - you can buy realistic instrument samples, but you can't buy the ability to make real-sounding music. - Don't use snap-to-grid features in your piano roll / MIDI editor. No live musician can time his notes to perfectly fit the grid. Place the notes haphazardly yourself without any grid snapping and you're automatically "humanising" it. - Use different velocities on your notes. Velocity influences how loud or quiet a note is, and if you have some notes louder than others (especially in places where there's supposed to be accents) you're going to make it sound not only more real but also more dynamic. Similarly, edit volumes of long sustained notes to make them swell and dip with the music. - Use grace notes, trills, staccato, legato, portamento, glissando, vibrato, and other fancy articulations and playing techniques to fluff up the music where it's fitting. - Vary the tempo, especially when there's a solo instrument playing. It usually sounds pretty artificial and computerised to have a whole orchestra of instruments slow down at perfect sync with each other, but if there's a solo instrument carrying most of the melody, play around with its tempo, add some sections where it speeds up and slows down naturally with the music, etc. - Good harmony and contrapuntal skills when writing melodies always goes a long away. The more care and attention you put into every individual instrument's melodic and harmonic voices, the more complex and intricate the final result is, and that does a lot to make it sound more real. Djay B - Games, Music, and More Hey! Thanks for the questions, I love responding to stuff like this. Audio software should be written in the description. It's FL Studio with various plugins and libraries for the instruments. The "copyright thing" is a little vague and hard to explain, but I'll try and explain things how I understand them as someone with little to no legal experience/knowledge. Technically, the Mario Galaxy music is copyrighted, and Nintendo are likely within their rights to come up to me and at least attempt to take my video down from KZbin. That being said, I could argue that it falls under "fair use", which is a fancy legal term that, in layman's terms, means "you're not really doing anyone any harm so what's the problem?". I recreated this from scratch, I'm not using any sounds directly from the original, and I'm not making any profits. This is essentially a fan project just like a cosplay at a convention or a drawing of a video game character would be. The bad publicity, wasted time, and expensive legal fees that Nintendo would have to endure to run around shutting down relatively tiny passion projects and tributes like this very arrangement would probably not make it worth it for them to do, if that makes sense. Of course, if I were to directly use the original music and just repost it, then it's harder to "get away with it", so to speak, because I'm not actually contributing creatively to it and KZbin has algorithms that detect this sort of thing automatically. However, I highly doubt that it would be in Nintendo's interest to shut down a single arrangement of one of their soundtracks that isn't making any profit :). As for my inspiration... This will sound silly but my sole inspiration for this arrangement is simply that I love Super Mario Galaxy and hold its soundtrack in very high regard. The arrangement started with me simply wanting to pay a tribute to one of my favourite video game soundtracks, and the whole chiptune/orchestra hybrid idea sort of came naturally as the song progressed, though it was no doubt influenced by the fact that Super Mario music started off as chiptune all those years ago. Sorry for all the text! Hope you enjoyed my answers, and thanks for dropping by.
