Hey guys! Welcome to Linguamarina channel! The topic for today's video is 'TO vs. FOR'. When do we use 'to' and when do we use 'for'?
The first thing that we're going to do is to talk about when we use 'to'.
1. Destination. Use 'to' when there is some kind of transfer happening or something is being moved from one place to another.
2. Time. We use ‘to’ in telling the time when we refer to the number of minutes before the hour. We can use ‘to’ with the meaning of ‘until’ when we are talking about time. We often use it in the expression "from … to …"
3. We use 'to' when we compare something.
4. Receiver of an action. We use ‘to’ with verbs such as 'give', 'hand', 'send', 'write', to indicate the person or thing that receives or experiences the object of the verb.
5. To express a reason (with a verb). Use ‘to’ when you are trying to express purpose or the reason that something is happening.
Let's move on to talking about 'for'.
1. Benefits. Use ‘for’ when something is being done to benefit something or someone else.
2. Period of time. Use ‘for’ to indicate time or duration.
3. Schedule. Use ‘for’ to mention a specific time, day, etc.
4. To express a reason (with a noun). Use ‘for’ when you are trying to express purpose or the reason that something is happening.
5. Purpose of something. We use ‘for’ to talk about the purpose of something.

After living in the us for a certain period of time do you feel better to speak in English with natives or just frame a sentance? It's so difficult to start speaking if you're not in country where this language is spoken. I have a desire and dream to visit the us or britain somewhere and I'm confused because I think I know quite a lot words and can understand all grammar rules but speaking is a torture for me :(

Kirill Popov Yes, living in US certainly helped me to improve my English and it’s easier to understand them now. I lived in UK for a year and that year was very important and helpful in my English journey :) If you watch English movies , tv series and KZbin and understand it, so you’ll definitely will be able to understand native speakers when you visit these countries. 😊

@@ilonaleclerclifeinusa Yes, I try to watch it everyday and do different tasks to understand what does the speaker say. But I think that the best way to speak is to be there because when you live in a country where you use only your native language it's hard enough to practise english everyday. You know, I try to think in my mind what I'm doing now or what do I need to buy etc. Hope one day I will become one of many other lucky people who can speak it fluently :)) Thank you for your replies! It's been a very helpful and useful way to use english and practise it. All the best for you and keep studying well to reach your dream!))

I have known Linguamarina just for about a year...,,, and suddenly I feel you like a friend and I want to say simply: How beautiful you look today! or Take care of yourself. things like that. You (even indirectly) made me decide to learn English definitely. Your life influences other lives.

During the Corona virus You could say It's safe here at least in my city well considering the not so high rate of infected people comparing to other cities. I've been staying at home for 2 month now, well except 2 or 3 times that I went out shopping ,not unnecessary stuff believe me:). I mostly read books in English and watch tv series to pass the time. I really hope that we all get rid of this corona virus soon. Take care of yourselves people. Stay home, stay safe
