Stove test at 1.5 inches
• TOAKS Titanium Siphon ...
Stove test at 1 inch
• TOAKS Titanium Siphon ...
Purchased the stove several months ago to replace my cat food tin stove since I wanted something which was a bit more efficient and boiled faster.
After a fair bit of research I came across the Toaks and here are my thoughts

Thanks for the review I’m looking to buy a titanium stove. One possible fix for your stand would be to get some wire cutters and snip off a row or two from your stand.

Thanks for the video. The optimal height of the stand can vary depending on what type of pot you're using (wide vs narrow), so in that sense it's better that they supplied a tall stand that you can cut back. You could try this yourself by removing one coin at a time until you get your fastest boil. Cheers.

Jandal thanks for watching and the feedback. I agree and might do just that. Cheers

Great review. Here's what I did to keep everything as light as possible, while having some options. I also purchased the Toaks Backpacking Wood Burning Stove, (The small version). It weighs 5.4 oz. while the siphon stove weighs .7 oz. The combined weight is only 6.1 oz. for both a wood burning stove and an alcohol burning stove and one nests in the other. I also can use the wood burning stove base as a wind screen, as well as a pot stand for the Toaks Siphon Stove. That's the lightest way I've found to cover all 4 bases. I have a Lixada collapsible titanium wood burning stove that weighs 10 oz all by itself. One thing you could do is clip off 1/2" of the included pot stand to make it the proper height. I personally prefer using the method above of combining two Toaks stoves and using the base of the wood burning stove as both a pot stand and a wind screen. The ventilation at the bottom of the base is low enough to keep the wind away from the flames, all the while letting air in to feed the flames. Just my two cents. Really enjoyed your video.

Hi Thrifty Survivor, thanks for watching and your feedback. I love the idea of having more options and really like testing those options to find what works best for me. Given the time of year and locations I generally camp (winter and in the bush here in Aus) I often have a fire in the evening and/or morning and generally put my pot in the fire to boil the water etc. So I will that going from 2.11oz to 6.1oz to replicate something I do at the moment isn't the right fit for me personally. Definitely could be at different locations and times of the year. I will certainly be cutting that 1/2" off the pot stand though. Thanks again for watching and posting.

@@JakeMarcin Your reply makes sense to me. The only reason my setup is preferable for me is I was looking for something that can give me quick and simple options in the event of an emergency situation where I may not have the time build a proper camp fire. I'm referring to more of a bug out or SHTF situation here. You do have a lot of good insight there so please note that I'm not disagreeing with you. We just have different goals for our setups. Hope you're enjoying your spring there. We just had 14" of snow fall here in my part of North Carolina; I can't wait for spring. Anyway, thanks for your reply, and good day to you mate.

100% understand and its always great to hear other peoples setups and their reasons for them. There is never going to be a one size fits all. It is all about sharing your own stuff and people taking from it what they like and incorporating it into their own person setup. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts :)

@@JakeMarcin No thanks needed. I really enjoyed your video, and appreciate your replies as well. As you say, there is not one size fits all. I agree with you, Hiram is all about alcohol burners and stoves. I guess I'd have to say he's the expert when it comes to that. I've been watching his videos for a while also.

Thanks for your review. Looks like a nice piece of kit. I thought you had your shirt on inside out as the writing on it was backwards... but I noticed the 'Happy Christmas' on the card behind you is also backwards... so it wasn't a wardrobe malfunction after all, just your camera flipping the image. :)

Maybe the 1.5 inch height is better than 1 inch for cooking as apposed to boiling?

Hello I bought a titanium alcohol stove but it doesn’t work properly. It doesn’t have pressure and the fire doesn’t come out of the little holes on the side. It toke 14 minutes to boil 2 cups of water. Do you know what way be the problem? I used 30ml of denaturalized alcohol.

Hi Marco, sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with it, did you buys this same stove from Toaks or another brand?

Are we certain one-inch is the key? Or is it possible the extra height of the stove off the ground creates a chimney effect, thus speeding boil-time? Caldera obviously puts great stock in the chimney effect?
@JakeMarcin
@JakeMarcin 4 жыл бұрын
Not to sure Tom, The fellow in the links below did a few boil tests and that seems to be the results he came up with. Haven’t done my own individual tests but might be something I will do in the near future.

@@JakeMarcin - Hiram's a legend. I posted detail comment to his Toaks #4 vid. We're ignoring the more important variable, burner-height. By raising the burner, airflow is greatly improved. Burner height is improving efficiency more than pot-burner distance. imho.

So wouldn’t the easiest solution be to just shorten the pot stand? Would take a pair of wire snips and about 20 seconds! I might experiment with a few different sized pots first though; something that Hiram Cook didn’t do. Btw..thanks for showing the pouring out of the unused alcohol. Something that I always wonder about and NO ONE shows.

You’re totally right and it’s been something iv been meaning to do but haven’t yet (wire snip the bottom). No worries, I too couldn’t find it anywhere so thought it would be useful showing, that way people know they can put a little more then they think they might need and easily poor it back into the bottle after.

Looks like a nice stove, might get it at some point. I've not used an alcohol stove yet, been happy with the gas canister. Might try the "cat food stove" to give it a go - I presume a can of tuna will work well? Is the alcohol/metho used for all these just the usual metho you buy from any shop? Thanks!
@JakeMarcin
@JakeMarcin 6 жыл бұрын
Dan Neukirch it's a nice cheap way to start to see if you like it. Performance can very hugely though based on build. Yep I just buy standard metho like you get from any shop, here in Aus anyway

Dan Neukirch yep that's 100% the correct stuff, works a treat. I would be impressed if most of the staff there new what a little alcohol burner was, so maybe they were just mistaking it for something else. You won't have any issues with it

I's just a piece of hardware cloth. You aren't going to use it with anything else. Get your wire cutters and trim it down so that the bottom of the pot is at one inch.
