Interesting review. I have a stainless steel set up similar to the Toaks, a little heavier but very efficient burn. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sven. Thanks for watching and your comment. This type of stove is a good design, which ever brand you buy. All the best Clive 🤠

@CDPOutdoors Hi Clive, it wasn't expensive, so I bought the set & was surprised how well it worked. I tried with home made coffee tin twig stove years ago. Nowhere near as good as the Goshawk.

@CDPOutdoors I bought mine around 18 months ago & the stainless steel set is no longer shown on the Goshawk site. Their current one's are Titanium.

I saw the titanium set. I'm tempted to get one to try out.

An alcohol burner is great to have with the gasifier due to a fire ban. Plus, the gasifier will make a perfect windshield. :)

Must say best of both worlds a secondary gasification and classic hobo,can see in really wet conditions pros and cons like all others a go to.

Good all year round. And a personal close-up heat source, using less wood. All the best. Clive. 🤠

I bought the Toaks stove, but I was struggling a bit with it. So, I watched your video for suggestions. I think the shorter 550ml cooking cup/pot might help, so it doesn't get to tall and top heavy. Like you mentioned near the end, slowing down and enjoying the process might also help. Thanks

Hi Katherine. Good to hear my video helped. Slowing down and enjoying is the best part. All the best. Clive

@@CDPOutdoors it's meant to be a top down fire. You load it with fuel, cat litter wood pellets are ideal. Then you can use partially buried tinder, or just a small amount of alcohol fuel to get it burning. It is completely smokeless once it's going and there's very little ash at the end. You can also use natural fuel, although it takes patience to collect pen thickness dry twigs and break them up into tiny pieces and natural wood never lasts as long. I hope this is helpful and allows you get more enjoyment from these stoves. Most people do it wrong. You can top it up when the fuel is running out, but it generates smoke. It will create embers to simmer or slow cook on for a long time, total burn time is 2 hours and about 45 minutes of strong flame. I let it burn and start a new burn instead of topping it up because it interrupts the top down burn. So let it burn, empty ashes and start again. These woodgas stoves need more love. If you're backpacking you could collect wood as you walk along so you have unlimited fiel.

You load it, light it and let it burn. Don't feed it. The fire and heat gets better if you just let it do its job.

Seems like a good wood burning stove. Stable and holds decent amount of wood. Also is a very controllable fire with little trace behind of a fire. Downside seems to be very small cooking can be done, but that is all part of hiking and backpack cooking. I have a very cheap folding wood or alcohol tab stove. Alcohol tabs didn’t work well as fire was not controllable and mess kit pan would slip all over. May mod it before a wood test, but really like your stove sooooo much better.

how long does it take to boil 3 cups of water?
@CDPOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tami. That all depends on the wood you use, & how you feed the wood. This type of stove for me is more of a relax & kick back stove.

I noticed that when I boil water in my Toaks 900ml pot with this Toaks solid fuel stove, the water tastes odd. A bit burnt tasting, as if the smoke from the wood somehow got into the water. This doesn't happen if I use an iso fuel, propane or regular gas stove. Has anyone noticed this?

Do you have your lid on your pot?
@HNSeventyFive3 жыл бұрын
@@CDPOutdoors Yes. I've done this several times with the same results. So you don't get the weird taste? I'm camping this week and will give it another go, and let you know what I get. Hope it'll eventually work out because I really like this stove and enjoy using it. Thanks!

@@HNSeventyFive And, only 2 years later-Overheated water causes a burnt taste. This is true for coffee, and probably other things as well. You want to stop short of a full boil, or even after it just starts 'spriting' (tiny bubbles breaking the surface). If the flames are really high they might be heating the water too much.

There is always some smoke. When you are in a hurry, you won't take the time and burn extra fuel waiting for the stove to gasify. It's a good twig stove, because the height increases the intake of air which intensifies the flame. The bigger version requires less tending, and a wider pot makes the best use of the broad flame pattern vs. a pressurized gas stove. The same is true for alcohol stoves.
