So simple ,but hauntingly beautiful as well. Brings me back to my carefree teens. Blessed to have grown up with the music of the 60s and 70s. A great time to be a kid and songs like this made it even better. What a gem!!!

Meu Deus.

This song will forever remind me of my Dad. My dad took me on a drive to San Francisco, just the two of us, when I was 10 years old. I remember as we crested the top of a I believe upper Fillmore street, the beautiful sparkling waters of the bay appeared on the horizon, dotted with sailboats. This song was playing on the radio. KFRC AM I believe. I lost my father in 2020 to Covid. I never got the chance to say goodbye.

Meanwhile keep posting these "goodies" - and the slightly more obscure the better. I often spend an evening on YT listening to the ones that time (and radio DJs) forgot. Remember The Statler Brothers, "Flowers on the Wall"? I'm going to listen to that again right now.

sunryse111 I will do my best Victor, but you have set the standard very high. I checked out 'Flowers on the Wall' and although I am very familiar with the song, I did not know anything about the Statler Brothers. I have no fear in repeating the word 'Encyclopedic'

This was released in the US on the ATCO label and was a moderate chart hit in 1970. I was a third grader. My older sister had the 45 and played it to death. It's a very simple song melodically and lyrically, but a very haunting and pretty one.

Thanks for the excellent post, sir or madam. Yes, the effect of pinching the flange of the recorder (or playback) was later known as "flanging" ..... this Tin Tin song may well have been the first ever use of the technique in a pop song. Later, the effect was done electronically through a device called a "flanger" and it became possible to provide this effect in a live performance.

Gosh, remember Tin Tin? Wow, I'd nearly forgotten this track. I always thought this track had a bit of a Beatles-esque quality to it- both lyric-wise, as well as production-wise (it was Maurice Gibb, who did the production, if I'm not mistaken). It's such a beautiful song, which I've not heard in so l long. Thank you, +wearyoldman, for posting this slice of colourful (in my mind) remembrances, of summers, long ago, sitting on the grass in Eliz. Bay, and watching the water, the sky. Beautiful. Sigh.

Thank God for some radio station to have the sentimental guts to play that tune. And that piano wavering through that song STILL haunts me today!

I suspect that this song will have become an ear worm before morning, but a very nice one, and once again the accompanying film is terrific. The weather here is rotten just now, wind tearing at the apple blossom, and bumble bees flying backwards, still I have hopes for a sunny weekend. Thanks again you lovely man.

Steve Kipner of Tin Tin was interviewed on Barry Scott's "Lost 45s" radio show back in the late '80s or early '90s. He said that the piano part was originally recorded straight, but it sounded "boring". They hit on the idea of recording the piano part while the engineer applied slight pressure to the tape reel. Barry Scott replied that he'd always thought it was some strange exotic instrument.

Twinkle3067 Many thanks Linda. Strange song this in the sense that it doesn't follow the normal structure which is usually Verse 1 followed by Chorus followed by Verse 2 and so on. This seems to be Chorus 1 followed by Chorus 2 and repeated in no particular order. But it works for me. I'm still waiting for the weather to improve here.
