A fantastic collection of positions, I knew many of them but the study by Judit was new to me, very deep and simply mind blowing! Loved the intricacies! With due respect, I want to point out certain flaws in the analysis in the video from 30:30. 1.Kg7 Kg2 2.Kf6 Kf3 3.Ke5 Ke3. This is the start position where I have certain things to point out and which also shows the beauty of the study! Very important to note is that the study is very counter-intuitive! The correct move as Surya pointed out is 4.a5. But very important to understand the flaw in 4.Kd6. 4.Kd6 fails to 4...Kd3!! (Not 4...Kd4 as shown in the video). Let's first understand why 4...Kd4 fails. 5.Kc7 b5 6.a5! b4 7.Kb6 b3 8.Ka6 Kd3 9.Kb7 Kc2 10.a6 Kb2 11.a7 kc1 12.a8=Q. Black is one move short! It is very natural to play 4...Kd4 but in fact the refutation is 4...Kd3 (counter-intuitive!). The reason is that from d3, the black king is a step closer to the b2 pawn! Let's see the continuation after 4...Kd3. 5.Kc7 b5 6.a5 b4 7.Kb6 b3 8.Ka6 Kc2 9.Kb7 Kb2 10.a6 Kc1 11.a7 b2 12.a8=Q b1=Q draws! The second thing which I want to point out is this. After 4.Kd5?, the most natural move 4...Kd3 is a mistake as 5.a5 wins like in the main continuation after 4.a5. But 4.Kd5 is wrong due to 4...a5! This equalises! Note that in the position after 4...a5, Black draws as White king is on d5 as it is one move further away from the b7 pawn. If the king were on d6, a5 would fail as the king is one move closer to the b7 pawn (similar to the last variation where Black king was losing with king on d4, but drawing with king on d3!! The reason was same- distance from b2 pawn!! This is very interesting!) The third thing which I want to point out is that 4.a5 is the only way to win. White has to stop B's a5. By method of elimination 4.a5 remains the only move. To show the reciprocal zugzwang thingy to make a person understand the problem in the problem, the right move order would be this- 1.Kg7 Kg2 2.Kf6 Kf3 3.Ke5 Ke3 4.a5 (not 4.Kd5) Kd3 5.Kd5 Kc2 6.Kc5 (ok correct is 6.Kd6! but I am trying to show the first step to make someone understand the problem) 6...Kb3 7. Kb6 Ka4 8.b3 Kb4. Reciprocal zugzwang. I hope I could make myself understandable. Was very difficult to explain what I wanted to say. But one easy thing is Judit OP. This problem was amazing and thanks Surjo for showing this in your stream- it's very tough, very confusing, very beautiful and completely mind blowing !! Perhaps a seperate video explaining this problem is required!

I will show you something very funny which just now occurred to me! After 4.Kd5? a5! 5. Kc5 Kd3 6.Kb5 Kc2 7. Ka5 Kb3 (Kb2 draws of course, but what I am showing is what I found funny!) 8.Kb5 b6 Reciprocal zugzwang position similar to main line! Hehe! Here it is a draw but if side to play changes, things change!

I think it's a great idea for GMs like Surya and Srinath to train Sagar. Sagar does so much for the Indian and overall chess community, yet he spends so much time helping others, amateurs, youngsters, etc that he doesnt get to spend as much time training himself. With the help of his GM friends he can become an even stronger player and finally become a GM, that would be an incredible achievement

At 12:36 , here is why Qxg6+ doesn't work. Qg6 could also work but luckily Black King finds a safe square on c7, as Qxg6+, if king f8, Qf7 is mate Qxg6+, if king d8, Qg8+, here if Black goes Kd7, now Be6+, Kc7, Qxc8+, Kb6, and Knight to a4 is a beautiful fork, taking Black's Queen. But instead, Qxg6+, if king d8, Qg8+, here Black should go Kc7, since no checks are possible. Alternatively, when Qxg6+, King can directly go to d7, because there is no Queen on g8, and Be6+ is now prevented.

Surya, can you confirm if everything is all right with Sagar still? Was he allowed to step inside his home?? Or do we need to start a campaign to find alternative accommodation?

10:00 Why not pawn to g4, threating a mate with queen to f5?
@rishimishra2083 жыл бұрын
I'll play Queen to h8+, now you have to play Qh7, I'll exchange the queens and this is completely winning for Black as I'll take the knight on d1 as well, and I have two rooks and a knight, and you have only a knight.
