FYI Goodwill doesn't do any actual charity with the money they make. Their big charitable purpose is hiring and training disabled people to work for them, and they use their non-profit status to pay them significantly less than minimum wage. Outside of that, they are just a basic retail business. The biggest plus is they save a lot of stuff from going into a landfill and give it new homes. Their electronics are hit or miss off the auction site but often it depends on where the item is coming from. Some Goodwill centers are more, for a lack of a better word, honest. However some centers just DGAF and you may get trash or treasure because they don't check what they are selling.
@Joreel
@Joreel Жыл бұрын
Your actual incorrect. The Goodwill hires and trains people with disabilities to be able to work in any job, not just at their stores. They are one of the biggest training companies for people with disabilities who want to work and have independence. They do not in fact underpay their employees. I've worked in both their stores and as a trainer to help people learn how to work despite their disabilities. Please don't spread lies about companies you know little to nothing about.

I've looked at that site a few times when I was hoping to maybe find some things without spending a fortune. All the items I was interested in were listed with starting bids just a few bucks under retail, and for that, I may as well just buy it new and not have to worry about it not working and having no return policies.

Goodwill works with several electronics recycling companies. The stuff that they put up for auction are usually handpicked from what people turn in. If you're lucky they might plug something in to see if it makes noise or lights up but that's the extent of their "testing".

I literally just flipped an NZXT case like that. For airflow I marked out 120mm x 240mm on the front, drilled the corners with a step drill bit and used a thin cutting wheel in an angle grinder to connect the holes (put down some masking tape to help cut straight. Then I hit it with some krylon black because I exposed some metal. File or sand the sharp edges. The final piece is to get some black metal mesh from the hardware store. Its sold as gutter guard and it is 6"x36" for 4 dol hairs. I used e6000 adhesive to glue it down from the inside and it looked pretty sweet, also the front fans can get tons of air this way, and if you go ARGB fans it looks great. You can slap a cheap magnetic filter over the whole mess too if you didn't cut the hole super clean.

I used to volunteer at a local Goodwill on weekends. I did all of the electronics testing for that store, including stereo equipment and computers. *I* actually do know what I'm doing....mostly...haha, but usually, it's someone who *thinks* they know what they are doing, but are actually really clueless. Almost every electronic that could be considered "high" value was left for me to price. Otherwise, they would slap $999 on an Emachines pile of junk. In the year or so I was there, I increased the stores profit, yes profit, numbers by something like 80%. If you only knew the amount of stuff that went in the dumpster simply because noone knew how to test it. It'll make you sick. In the case of your computer, I'd deff say it wasn't tested at all. Because no-one was available that knew how. And Goodwill is NOT a good company BTW. They are a for profit corporation, and actually do not do much at all to help the community. However, some local Goodwill affiliate stores DO help the community out, but they are not a corporate store.

But E-Commerce will Vary, but as far as Knowledge goes for E-Commerce its Mainly a Plug in and Boot (if it does) and sell it and hope that someone that doesnt know better and just sees "Gaming PC" and falls for it and gets a System thats not even worth the Money instead of having someone be able to list the Specs and get a good deal for it. Side note: The knowledge part varies on Location like a Hit or Miss (Mostly Miss)

@arthurreid6108
@arthurreid6108 Жыл бұрын
@@zee-fr5kw Charities specifically do not profit, that's why they're called "non-profits", and can apply to have a tax exempt non profit status with the IRS, meaning revenue cannot be taxed because it isn't profit. Charities are not businesses, they may run businesses to fundraise for their charity work, which does require profits, but a charity absolutely does not, nor should it, generate profits. If it does, it isn't a charity but a dishonest business, that literally would be seen as so much better if they branded themselves as a business that does a lot of charity work.

Seems someone build a PC especially for Goodwill form parts he had lying around. Price is not great but OKish including the two Noctua fans. I would check on the PSU maybe it's decent quality. Otherwise I would start upgrading there. 2nd RAM stick for sure or maybe a 16 GB DDR4-3200 kit instead. Than a used i5 8400 or above and a Radeon RX 6700 XT or Geforce RTX 3070 would made a nice setup.
