I did the math on current prices on this build to throw it together without putting too much effort into procurement. While it's totally possible I could see someone asking for $650 for this build, building it yourself would cost maybe $550 after tax (I'm in the US). It's very possible you could get the parts for $450, but it would also be someone's lucky day to do so. We are also totally ignoring every kind of peripheral, two of which are very important to the PC experience. The keyboard and mouse are the things you actually physically touch. You don't want them to evoke negativity, and lastly the monitor. Monitor / TV can wash, as you can easily spend more or less on either of them, and if you're purchasing correctly for your hardware (1080p @ 120 hz in this case) then you can't really over spend on one to make it "better". It's just overbuying in either one at that point, however, you CAN buy 4k for a console, where there is no universe 4k on a 5700 XT is going to be a good time. But going back to the original point, a keyboard and mouse vs a controller do NOT wash. Quality peripherals are at least double what comes with a console. $50-60 for each one. Then if we scale our options, they keep trend. The best keyboard ever made, SteelSeries Apex Pro by itself is $200. Razer Naga Pro is $150, but the charging dock is another $50. We yet again double the price of 3rd party controllers. I only break this down because your testing is absurd. Put God of War on them during intense moments, or CP77. There is loads of value in a PC, but gaming isn't one of those values at this price point. Sure, if you're into the eSports titles, then sure, but there isn't a universe this pc can keep pace with a console on 2023 new releases. I keep seeing people reference these budget pc vs console videos as if ya'll are proving some sort of point, and these videos are pretty dishonest.

We all know the PC can keep up with the ps5 when it comes to these ESports games, that are optimized for such cheaper builds. Where the value of the PS5 comes into play, is AAA gaming. Games like Cyberpunk, Horizon Forbidden West, Spiderman, and so much more that wouldn't run nearly as good on that PC. I don't think this was a fair comparison.

The PS5 will clearly handle 4k better than any PC you could build at the same price point. However, Steam, GOG, and Epic give you access to so many more games than you'd have with a PS5, and there is an upgrade path you can take to get really good 1440p and 4k performance on the PC. If you like playing older games or like to tinker, it's hard to beat a PC.

@b0ne9110 ай бұрын
I don't think so. The PS5 doesn't play any modern titles at native 4k. It's all upscaled (not AI upscaled, so not nearly the quality you can get with DLSS) at 30 fps. Check DigitalFoundry to see how games actually run. Toasty Bros are also incorrect in saying the PS5 GPU is an RX 6700. It uses the same chip, but severely downclocked (and severely downclocked, shared memory). If you want PS5 raw performance, somewhere between an RX 6600 XT and RTX 3060 is where you should aim. Hell, an RTX 2070 or 2060 Super would probably be good enough if you're fine with playing low FPS upscaled content anyway.

@@b0ne91 At $500, you'll be hard pressed to build a PC that can compete with a PS5, and this is coming from someone who built a PC. I'd still choose to build a PC over buying a PS5, but the point I was making was at the same price point. Not can a PC outperform a PS5, of course they can. Maybe read and parse out the whole context of a comment before diving in with a reply.
@b0ne9110 ай бұрын
@@stratuvarious8547 I understood the context. I build, overclock and flip 100s of PCs every year. As long as you understand what parts make sense to buy used, where the PS5 falls short and what it can actually do, you can beat it at $500 and easily at $600. In fact, I'm not really sure you understood my comment and how it relates to console comparison. I laid out the specs of competing parts and pointed out that if you were going for a AAA 4k 30 fps upscaled experienced (like the PS5) anyway, you'd be better off with a used Nvidia GPU. For high refresh esports titles, you can easily beat a CPU that barely rivals the R5 3600 to get higher frames as well. Since esports titles are rarely GPU limited, you can shift your focus in your build.

There are legitimate reasons console owners prefer hard copy games, preservation and resale value. On pc you literally don't have that option anymore, zero legit way to preserve your game or resell... this is the nature of digital only, capitalism for corps only. This is why $ony is so desperately trying to get people to go digital only and removed backward compatibility, not 'technical limitations' Steam servers down? Or worse, internet down in your neighborhood due to a drunk driver hitting the junction box... The PS5 GPU isn't even a real RX 6700. It's heavily downclocked and in both core and memory. The performance is a bit better than an RX 6600, about RX 5700 XT performance. The CPU on the console works out to a Ryzen 5 3600 - it's technically about a 4750G without the iGPU. It's missing the cache real Zen 2 parts have. The consoles also don't do 4k 60 on modern games. They mostly do 1440p (upscaled from 1080p) 60 or 4k (upscaled from between 1080p and 1440p) 30. DigitalFoundry always has great info and Iceberg Tech recently did a great video.
@originalityisdead.95139 ай бұрын
Digital Foundry has just done a video, and the 6700 is faster in some games and slower than others when compared to a PS5. By the time this year is out, the PS5 will be ahead. By next year, i doubt the 6700 will be of much use. The big upside to having a console is that you can get a level of optimisation that is simply not available on PC. I prefer PC'S, but as this price point, you will have to upgrade numerous times before the console generation is over.
@b0ne919 ай бұрын
@@originalityisdead.9513 but you can upgrade for cheap. Sell the old, in with the new. And optimization isn't magic, we already have access to hardware that outperforms the consoles theoretically send practically. A 3070 can be had for 250 often. Linus just showed we're now at the point where it's easily reproducible. With bargain hunting, it's easy to beat. I saw you posted this same comment in a few places, I really don't know why you're coping
@originalityisdead.95139 ай бұрын
@b0ne91 It's a "fact" that the same level of optimisation can't be achieved on PC that you can on console. The 3070 is struggling with its 8gb of Vram already. By the end of this generation, it will be useless. Also, Linus didn't prove anything as the GPU alone now is $350 and upwards. He was also comparing the price of a new PS5 to used PC parts when you can also get a used PS5 and to further widen the gap get a used PS5 digital and for that price you aren't building a PC that would perform anything like the PS5. Also, I'm not coping. What i have stated is true. Objective vs. Subjective. Come back at the end of this year and see how the 6700 and 3070 are doing and then again at the end of the generation. I absolutely guarantee you they will be better used as paperweights. I've game on both PC and Console, have done since the 90'S and by the end of the console generation the hardware needed to match the consoles performance has changed numerous times. It's been the same every generation, this generation will be no different. There's also the fact that building a PC and then selling the parts to add towards the price of an upgrade totally defeats the point to begin with.
@b0ne919 ай бұрын
@@originalityisdead.9513 Sigh. A used 3070 is $250 now and will drop more in price. They played everything in 4k, when the PS5 can't even upscale every title to 4k. With DLSS to match the PS5 upscaling, 8GB is enough. It's not something I'd personally go for, but if you're on such a small budget, PS5 included, you should just not touch 4k anyway. 1440p is arguably ambitious. My point wasn't that the PS5 can't be optimized for, rather that we've reached its peak already. People aren't going to magically increase it's performance. Whereas GPUs will come down in price. Until the pro consoles come out to match, there's no real competition for a used hardware gaming pc you can upgrade at any point. I sold my PS5 2 months after launch. It was such a joke performance wise, because I actually play at 4k on the TV. I'll stick with a PC - no hidden or added costs and they haven't let me down since the 90s either. I've owned tons of consoles and besides the exclusives they ended up being bad buying decisions every single time. I don't even know how to respond to you thinking those GPUs will be paperweights. Do you realize how long the HD7850 and RX580 lasted? In what world can "optimization" make up for the jump in performance you envision? Do you even understand how game development works? Watch some Digital Foundry and see what settings, resolution and refresh rate console actually plays at. A 3070 will never be matched until pro refresh.

@b0ne91 Come back at the end of the generation when the 3070 can't keep up with the PS5. There's already games where the 3070 is behind the PS5 due to the Vram. Let's see how the 3070 fairs when it comes to running PS5 exclusives where the level of optimisation is not the same on PC as console. not my opinion. it's a "fact" that devs can achieve a level of optimisation on console that is simply not available on PC. The devs can optimise specifically for the hardware in the console, something you can't do on PC as there's far too many variables to account for with endless combinations of CPU'S, GPU'S, Ram, even things like clock speeds, ram timings etc. Also, like i said, something else, which is undeniable. Go and see how good of PC you can build for the price of a used PS5. It would be atrocious. The PS4 equivalent GPU was absolutely useless by the end of the 8th generation and fell way behind the PS4. Digital Foundry also did a video on this. The 6700 is already falling behind the PS5, it wins some games and loses in others, something else Digital Foundry has proven. Come back at the end of the generation and say the same things you're saying now.

I have a dell 9020 with a 1660 super mad it basically plays these games exactly the same. It stands me at about £200. Desperately trying to find an excuse to buy a ps5 but my dated pc and first gen steam deck which I managed to get via part ex a load of old stuff out of the attic seems to give me everything the pS5 would but at a fraction of the price

I'd take the PC. No questions asked!

for that price range, a PS5 will usually perform better, but the pc is just a better choice because you have a much better upgrade path, and who knows, in 3 years, you will probably have a much better system than a ps5. Pcs also have many different functionalities, which is good if you want to do anything other than gaming, like work, editing, or 3d modelling.

What actualy happen to rx 580 drivers and can i still use it for gaming?
@itzkolkhov2029 ай бұрын
rx 580 drivers should still be downloadable from the AMD website, and also yes, the 580 is still a pretty good working option for gaming. My brothers gaming computer runs off a 580 and can run most triple a games at Atleast 60 fps if not more on high graphics settings.

I would say do pc build budget compared to the full price PS5 or Xbox Series X for a person who was to buy warranty and 2 full price games with a year of the membership of the platform that should give more wiggle room for the pc build itself.

If you are not competing in a tournament for money nor a professional gamer, get the PS5. PS5 is the best for casuals. PCs for the competitive or if you need the extreme GPU for work.
@DJohn09919 ай бұрын
Or for people that prefer to just simply game on a machine that can run almost all games both exclusive and multiplatform while Also using it as an everyday computer as well …casually .

I have both pc and Xbox, and tbh I find myself playing Xbox more. Primarily because most of friends are on console. But also b/c 120 fps is just the sweet spot for gaming imo. Most of the games I play run at 120 fps on console, except Apex legends smh. And even though I can play them on pc at 240 fps, it really feels like diminishing returns at 240fps. It’s not that significant of a difference to me.

I can always upgrate the PC for better performance i can't do that with the PS5 and you'r stuck with the console till a new version comes out witch will be years so PC for the win.
@brokensword26217 ай бұрын
i don't know why people always use 500$ price tag for consoles comparison. ps5 has digital Ver with 400$ price tag. this is a price that all of these people must use for comparison. their pc doesn't have blu ray so the 400$ Ver of the console is make sense.
@Icarus67839 ай бұрын
An integrated GPU in my opinion is no match for a good generation CPU and graphics card combo, especially if your motherboard comes with integrated graphics in addition to the above mentioned GPU. You cant tweak a console, and it takes quite some time before even a mid range motherboard is considered out of date. A PS5 is just no match for any PC built upon the price point of 550 dollars and upwards.
@ryue562610 ай бұрын
Console for the price is the way to go because games are just better optimized on ps5, I have a 4080 in my pc and there's so many broken pc games while thr ps5 version is just flawless, I've also been playing on psvr 2 and it's freaking awesome

The ps5 uses an RX 6700 and you chose an RX 5700. About a 23% difference, the ps5 is much faster

Imo, $500 gaming pc shouldn't be compared to ps5. An average pc for gaming (Steam data, quite realistic and not high end at all) should be given $500 to spend for gaming parts and then compared as this is a realistic dilemma. Should I UPGRADE my pc or buy PS5 for $500? We all have desktop or laptop.
