🌎 MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG: davidsbeenhere.com/
My time in Crown Point, Tobago continued with a trip to have some authentic curry crab and dumplings. It’s quintessentially Tobago, so it’s a must-have!
My friends Jason and Candice and I headed over to Miss Trim’s to try it out.
⚽️BOL: / bol.football
👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH: teespring.com/stores/davids-b...
In the back, they had some crab, stewed fish, stewed pork, and a cornmeal and coconut milk dish called coo-coo. Everything looked and smelled amazing.
Then, they showed me how they make curried crabs. They added thyme, ginger, garlic, chadon beni, hot peppers, coconut milk, curry powder, and more to the crab.
She built the curry and then poured the coconut milk into the pot of crabs. She then boils it for 45 minutes. Then, she made the dumplings!
I tried some of the stewed pork. It was so delicious! I loved the fattiness and it was so sweet!
Then, I helped roll out the dumplings. Then, after they’re rolled, they cut them in half. But I couldn’t wait to have the crab. It smelled so good!
I watched her boil the dumplings. I liked the half-moon shape. They almost looked like empanadas.
We drove down to the beach to eat. The sun was way more intense in Tobago even though it’s just a 20-minute flight from Trinidad. Nearby was a food court area with 7 different vendors, and some outdoor seating.
We ordered some curried conch, stewed chicken, stewed pork, stewed fish, bhaji, and callaloo. It was a nice mix of Indian and Creole dishes.
We started with the coo-coo, which is similar to polenta. It contains celery, pumpkin, okra, chives, garlic, and carrots. You dip it into the callaloo, which is a vegetable dish similar to palak paneer.
The curry kingfish was crispy and coated in curry. Everything was so good. I also liked the roasted breadfruit, which was like a plantain.
There was also some amazing yucca. I loved the curry conch, which also contained sweet potatoes. It was the best conch of all time! It was so soft and tender!
The stewed pork was so tender, it fell right off the bone. The gravy was unreal. It had a nice sweetness to it. I also really loved the stewed chicken. It reminded me of chicken dishes I’d had in Jamaica!
Finally, we jumped on the curry crab, which I bit right into to break the shell. I loved the spices and the coconut flavor. The dumplings were thin but dense and full of that amazing curry flavor.
Then, we headed to the nearby market to support the locals. There were vendors selling handmade crafts, including necklaces, bracelets, and earrings made from shells, seeds, and coral. It’s unique to Trinidad and Tobago!
I spent 160 TTD, or less than $30 USD on some necklaces and bracelets for my daughters. There was also a large calabash with different designs carved into them. I bought one for my assistant!
Then, we headed down to the beach!

David R: I think that David could and would have done a great job without Jason Peru. Should have let the other David take him around because Peru is a waste of time. David says that he is doing it to showcase the people and culture but Peru was of no help in that area. I give David a lot of credit for the great job he is doing so far. Maybe Peru doesn't know about the people and culture of Trinidad and Tobago.🇹🇹🇨🇦

@@JudyT868 David is doing a great job, yes Peru could have done somethings to make it better but a lot of viewers enjoy what he adds to it when you look at the comments, so give him some props. If he's getting a lot of praise, especially from non nationals that's something to commend. I personally won't have an issue if David comes back and Jason is his guide, as long as he makes a lot of improvement in regards to explanation of history and inclusion of our other cultures.

@@jasminespencer2872 ok. Some people are probably looking at it for the entertainment value and to see how much David enjoys the various types of food that he is introduced to. You say that a lot of non-nationals like what Peru is doing: let me ask you this question then: how much do these non-nationals know about Trinidad and Tobago culture and history of how Trinidad and Tobago came to be? I hope that Peru goes back and learn history but I DON'T ever want to see him in this capacity again. So sorry Jasmine. ❤️🇹🇹❤️🇹🇹❤️🇹🇹❤️ David, allow me to correct you, Trinidad and Tobago’s is amazing. The food you ate in Tobago is also cooked in Trinidad. I hope you don’t think only people in Tobago eat like that because it’s certainly not true. I hope the next time you go, you find a non-biased host who will truly let you experience the food entirely and teach you the African influence as well. Coucou is from Barbados and Bajans when they migrated to Trinidad brought coucou. Coucou is African influenced and in West Africa it’s called fou fou. Trinibagonian food, it’s so much more than you have been introduced to. And thank you for visiting TT🇹🇹

@@shelldown3189 Trinidad is predominantly mix half afro-caribbean and half East Indian now they might have more East Indian by one or two percent and yes Tobago has more of the Africans as they like to say but we shouldn't be dividing ourselves by the African culture and then the Indian culture because that's not how we are. My family is mixed Trinidadian of Venezuelan heritage my great-grandmother came to Trinidad from Venezuela to learn English married a man who was black and East Indian and had my mother if my family we have Chinese by marriage we have Lebanese by marriage but we are all Trinidad by birth and that is the mix of Trinidad and Tobago we shouldn't be separating ourselves I hate the separation especially with the black and Indian community.

You are doing a wonderful job at highlighting most of the wonderful foods in T&T, but one would think that people there only eat curry, doubles etc. Yes they are all tasty but you need to hook up with Shine from Love in The House to introduce you to the other wonderful authentic dishes in the beautiful T&T besides curry.

No Miss Trim's dumplings are not called left hand dumplings! Those who are from TnT know the negative meaning of that term. Miss Trim did an excellent presentation and explanation. Great job!

@@stillirise7813 What's negative? The lady making normal dumplings - no funny business! Imagine a foreigner going to Tobago and asking a vendor at Crown Point for left hand dumpling. I don't think it will go well !

@@carenna1220 I'm Trinidadian born in the (mid) 90's. I used to play with those donkey eyes/stones on the beach.....it depends on your upbringing as a kid and what those around u exposed you to during your childhood. Not necessarily your age most times.
