@@Rob-b2q8p and how would you classify them? For me it’s metal. Not such judas priest, for instance, but metal nonethess. Metal is such a huge style that is hard to say that songs like those arent.
@Rob-b2q8p2 жыл бұрын
@@tonigeraci I would say their modern stuff is more hard symphonic rock. Many of their songs have elements from bands like queen, journey, bon jovi, and meatloaf. However, they do have songs that I would classifiy as power metal and the metal operas were 100 percent metal.
@n8pls5432 жыл бұрын
@@Rob-b2q8p Well, I would say it's not symphonic, since it has a verse-chorus structure and lyrics - it's operatic. It also contains metal-specific elements to the instrumentation... and most importantly, Sammet would seem to describe his genre as metal, which makes it metal. I could just as easily decide that the newer extreme sections of metal have deviated too far from Sabbath, Candlemass, Dio, etc, to be considered metal, and who would be right?

"The Moonflower Society" (feat. Bob Catley) Twilight falls, ghostly the hands That reach out for you Through the mist of these alien lands Swallowed away on the road to forever Like a storm the wraith of advance Forced its will upon you Sacred yesterdays, lucid and vast For a blink of an eye it’s all coming together Like a relic of a long bygone time Moonflowers grow from the back of your mind Hold on - yeah Fire in the night I see ghosts, spectres light around me Vivid and stark, a blaze in the dark Fire in the night One by one - pictures gather round me Where those moonflowers used to grow Lost no more - spectres gather round here Vivid and stark, a blaze in the dark Night by night - stare into the black Where moonflowers used to grow As I walk through the mist Down the ruins of things that used to be Silent remnants of magical times A cabinet of curiosities Old companions and past Christmas ghosts Juvenile levity Sacred gatherings, pictures of days Swallowed away on the road to forever A covert society buried in time Once bent on survival Now kicked out of line Oh I hold on... A fire in the night I see ghosts - spectres light around me Vivid and stark, a blaze in the dark Fire in the night One by one - pictures gather round me Where those moonflowers used to grow Lost no more - spectres gather round here Vivid and stark, a blaze in the dark Night by night - stare into the black Where moonflowers used to grow And quite suddenly Just as if somebody slammed the door Halcyon days buried in halcyon lore As silence prevails Fragments come passing me by Slipping right through A crevice in time, oh Fire in the night I see ghosts - spectres light around me Vivid and stark, a blaze in the dark Fire in the night One by one - pictures gather round me Where those moonflowers used to grow Lost no more - spectres gather round here Vivid and stark, a blaze in the dark Night by night - stare into the black Where moonflowers used to grow
Avantasia's songs have always left a strong, distinct impression on me. I don't think there's a band around that captures such dark whimsical fantasy, bringing you to a realm of spirits and dreams, of fey creatures and moonlit nights. Wonderful. Pure poetry. The video enhances that so very much. What an excellent pairing!
