Fast Footwork is key for succesful badminton players! A crucial element for moving fast is an explosive and quick start and without a fast first step it is almost impossible to play on a high level. In this tutorial i will show you how to get faster on court by improving your start!
--Overview-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Here a short overview about the different sections and topics in the video:
0:00 Introduction
0:55 Technical Breakdown
3:50 The Footposition
7:41 Timing and Rhythm
10:19 Outro
-- Additional tipps ------------------------------------------------------------------
In this video i will go in detail about:
o what you have to do technically, to have an explosive start on court
o how you should use the start in different situations
o when you have to start and what is important for a perfect timing and rhythm on court
A quick start is important for singles and doubles because you need a quick first step to be high at the shuttle in offensive situations or to even reach the shuttle in defence, no matter if you have to cover full court, or only need one jump or step to reach the shuttle. That's why you should make a starting movement every single time! There are only two exceptions:
In defence in doubles. Here it is likely that the shuttle will come to you and you don't have to move
After a powersmash. After a hard smashing there is no time to do another split step until your opponent hits the next shot and in many cases you know where the next shuttle will come (in singles usually a straight short defence).

Wow, every badminton tutorial mentions the importance of the split step, but this is the ONLY one that actually explains exactly how and why, and in a very clear way too. This is great- thank you so much!

Tobias mentioned many golden tips fairly quickly or demonstrated them and even though there were brief,they are clear and immensely valuable. Excellent tip, without corny humor, love it! Just subscribed! Can you explain more about pronation and supination, and how and when to apply it? Keep up the excellent work!
@tobiaswadenka8435
@tobiaswadenka8435 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you =) You need both, pronation and supination in almost every shot. By moving the elbow towards the shuttle your arm will supinate (forehandshots) or pronate (backhandshots) what creates the backswing of your racket. In the hittingphase you rotate the other way round so pronation in forehandshots and supination in backhandshots. If you look at the biomechanics of the different shots they are all very similiar and follow the same principals.

@@tobiaswadenka8435 do you recommend we always split step sidewards first when opponent hits and then add appropriate directional split step to then aim in the direction we want to go to, or always split directionally towards where we want to go to?
@tobiaswadenka8435
@tobiaswadenka8435 4 жыл бұрын
@@chitung2277 try to split into the direction where you want to go if possible and avoid another split or correction steps. In offensive situations that will be a lot easier, in defensive situations you should use a neutral footposition and have to adjust if your opponent is not smashing to the sidelines

Also if i may ask one more question please...when exactly should we do the split step..if we know clearly where the shuttle is going that's easy. But maybe for side defence we don't so we might split the moment opponent smashes and then decide which direction to lean towards. Correct? If you could be very specific with the timing please e.g. a milii second after opponent hits and we see the shuttle leaves their racquet, etc

Hi Tobias, great video really helped to clear up some points on how to use the directional split step, was just wondering whatkind of split step is used after performing a drop from the back court as it can be used defensively and offesively? Keep up the good content
@tobiaswadenka8435
@tobiaswadenka8435 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the trajectory of your shot. If you play a drop really close to the net the return will most likely be very short or long again so you don't have to cover your midcourt. If you play faster dropshot the opponent can also push it a little more into your court. In both cases your footposition should be offensive so one foot in front, but in the second case usually a bit more neutral.
