In this video i will go in detail about:
o what you have to do technically, to have an explosive start on court
o how you should use the start in different situations
o when you have to start and what is important for a perfect timing and rhythm on court
A quick start is important for singles and doubles because you need a quick first step to be high at the shuttle in offensive situations or to even reach the shuttle in defence, no matter if you have to cover full court, or only need one jump or step to reach the shuttle. That's why you should make a starting movement every single time! There are only two exceptions:
In defence in doubles. Here it is likely that the shuttle will come to you and you don't have to move
After a powersmash. After a hard smashing there is no time to do another split step until your opponent hits the next shot and in many cases you know where the next shuttle will come (in singles usually a straight short defence).
