Nice video. My own advise for the newcomer’s, 1, Do not buy what you can not afford,. 2, your credit card is not a free money. 3, When you ask questions you are fool for a minute when you don’t ask you are a fool forever. 4. Learn from others mistakes.

As someone who works in HR and makes hiring decision almost daily I will say YOU WONT LOSE AN OFFER BECAUSE YOU ASKED FOR MORE! Great point, thank you, I see a lot of Canadians negotiate but immigrants don't do it and in my head Im like oh no 🤦♀️ I'd love to learn how you use your wealthsimple and quest trade accounts, I only use wealthsimple. I hate doing my own taxes, this is something I need to work on!
@atio54912 жыл бұрын
I prefer Wealthsimple as it’s the only one that is free in Canada. The only issue is, if you want to buy US stocks, the free nature can work against you as that’s where they make their money. it then becomes better to look into quest trade.

Preach girl!!!! I love that it's in caps. Thanks for sharing, our HR Professional 💕 Ati's response my reason. I use Questrade for USD to protect from currency conversion fees since one can have a USD account and Wealthsimple for my CDN investments. I know Wealthsimple has a USD account feature rolling in but I think there's a monthly fee for it.

That's right! I use Wealthsimple for CDN and Questrade for my US.

Thanks for this video sis. I learned a lot. I remember when my uncle co-signed to his friend's loan in Kaduna,it was a loan from LAPO, his friend fled to Ghana, his life became very hard and he was treated as if he was the lender. LAPO can be very scary in Nigeria. BTW sis,you sound like you're from kwara state.
@TobiDerin2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Wow, co-signing is a big risk 😔. Really? haha, how do Kwara people sound I want to know because this is the first time I'm hearing this and you're 100% right, I'm from Kwara state.

Hi Tobi, Please where can we get more information about loans, mortgages and pensions. I am new in Canada
@TobiDerin2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mimi, welcome to Canada! 🤗 You can as for pension, for loans and mortgage you can reach out to financial institutions, a lot of them offer and have great programs for newcomers (less than 2 years in Canada). I know RBC has a program like that but you can look out for more and go with the one that's best. I would suggest to take advantage of your employer's plan because the fee will be less.

Hi Tobi, is there a way new comers can compare salary to know what the industry average is? So as to help in negotiating.
@TobiDerin2 жыл бұрын
Yes! There are platforms like - Glassdoor, indeed, payscale. I find pay scale to be more up to date. If you're in Tech you can use levels.fyi. It's also good to not inform the company about your desired salary range because they might be offering more, just so you don't end up lowballing yourself. Get their salary range first then work with that by doing research on those platforms and maybe reach out to anyone you know in that industry to ask for the salary range for that position to avoid lowballing yourself.

Samehere. I would like to see a video on this Tobi
@TobiDerin2 жыл бұрын
You should file your taxes as an international student, it's actually the same filling process for everyone (they don't separate international students from Canadian students or even workers) - just that you will have the tuition fee form - T2202 which your school will provide and will receive tuition credits (both provincial and federal which will help you in the long run in Canada). You may also be eligible for other benefits such as OTB if you live in Ontario and other refunds/benefits. If you work part-time or full-time during summer you might get a tax refund, even if you don't work you should still file.
