I’ve listened to the original of this song several times. It was very good, very well sung. But I didn’t feel anything. With Angelina’s version, I FELT EVERY. SINGLE. WORD. Right down to my soul. Angelina took a good song, great even, and made it magnificent. You nailed it when you said this wasn’t a cover of the original, this was Angelina’s song. Toby Gad is one of the world’s top songwriters and has been associated with some of the biggest singers in the world. I don’t know how his association with Angelina came about, or why he chose her to sing one of his biggest songs ever, but the result is pure magic. This is not Amy, or Billie, or Adele. or Frank, or Ella, or Nora. This was Angelina Jordan at her transcendent, completely incomparable best.

Toby Gad is a very well known songwriter and music writer. He has co - written several really great songs and has won, I think, 3 Grammys. Two of his biggest songs are this one, and "All Of Me" which he co-wrote with John Legend and is the highest certified (Diamond) rated RIAA record in history! I am not sure of the exact number, but JUMPIN SOUNDS has posted about 20 performances from the show Monday night in London. At about 27 hours after posting, Angelina's performance of "If I Were A Boy" has almost 10000 views which is 4+ times the total for all the other performances combined! By all accounts her performance with Toby was by far the standout performance of the night! They performed their new song on the 16th in LA, "Bad Valentine"! And they have said they are working together on several other new songs!

Great comment..this is very much Angelina’s interpretation as she always delivers for us..note when she belts she does so only to honour the song rather than to make the performance about her..she could go way longer and harder but she holds the notes, for me, just right..I’ve a feeling things may be really happening for Angelina Jordan now..cream always rises to the top 🙏

Toby Gad is a cowriter of the song. As he mentioned he was writing songs with young artist B Jean. The songs were apparently supposed to be for her debut album. This particular song seems to be primarily her idea. They recorded a demo but the record company rejected the song. After the record deal fell through Gad marketed the songs to established artists. Beyoncé liked If I Were A Boy and recorded it and co-produced it with Gad.

Great reaction Paul, again Angelina takes in my opinion an average pop song ,and delivers a master storytelling performance elevating Toby's and his co writer's song into something far greater. I listened to Beyoncé´s version. It was great, but it pinpointed a few things in this AJ performance: When B belts out the high "If I were a boy", the tone is from a weaker woman - beautiful, but a lot less fullbodied than Angelina´s loud, almost shouting voice that shakes the room. This was a powersong - women CAN !

This was an event to honor songwriters. Toby Gad was one of the guests. He invited several artists to perform songs that he was involved with. He asked Angelina to perform If I Were A Boy. She performs this song on a new Toby Gad album that comes out next week. They have also been writing some songs together. A new Angelina song called Bad Valentine will be released in a few months.

Did you know Angelina works primarily with a Norwegian production company called Stargate (who AJ had a relationship with somr writers & ptroducers). After successful collaborations, Beyonce, Rihanna and Sam Smith formed group that influenced Stargate to headquarter in LA. So Angie has actually been anonymously associated with Beyonce since she moved to the US.

Indeed, Beyoncé did a great job, but what I was saying is that Angelina Jordan didn't do a Beyoncé cover, she did her own version of this song. She wasn't trying to copy Beyoncé. The same as Whitney Houston did with Dolly Parton's song, it wasn't a cover of Dolly Parton.

Sorry, Beyonce who? Did it again, took another cover and created a stunningly beautiful rendition...another upgrade. Not a big fan of Beyonce's Pop music...many are, just not me. She sings ballads like this really well but then there is Angelina. I am biased for sure but my ears are not. There is a reason why Toby choose Angelina for this one and also why he is writing songs with her...he gets it. More will follow. Thanks Paul. London Palladium is a 2400 seat theatre and now these folks know what we already know.
