Best finance channel on You Tube, no click bait nonsense for views, just common sense being talked which is refreshing. 👊

Great video Toby. Thanks for not speculating - That is a game for people who have nothing better to say.

Thanks for mentioning the FX impact. Not understood by enough investors.

Office building bust, that will bring the markets down. Hopefully not. 🤞

This was really interesting. I only opened my SIPP with Vanguard in June and I've got four payments of £125 tax relief as pending, was wondering if it was broken, but seeing it takes a couple of month to start going in has cleared that up for me. Hopefully, my first one will go in in early October then.

I definitely get the ‘carry on regardless’ statement in terms of investing long term and regularly… but a lot of people can only keep investing each month when they’re working and have an income… so the economy tanking / market crashing is fine… if you keep an income that allows it.

Exactly, I was thinking this. For huge investment funds like Pension Funds sure, but for individuals it's difficult to keep investing when your sector is really struggling or you've been put "At Risk" in your job and you're wondering whether to invest, pay off more of the mortgage, or build up a larger emergency fund.

Why don't you have other etfs that are cheaper than Vanguard? SPDR, ishare etc...

Only 3% so totally pointless in a portfolio. Common for people to avoid the hassle of this entry.

I always wonder what people like you do for a living to be able to invest so much money per month.

Here's my example. My monthly bills come to £1,800 (no mortgage). I receive a modest rental income from an inherited property and my wife works part time. The rent/wife's income come to £1,800. I do odd jobs for people in my area averaging around £1,200 per month. We don't have an extravagant lifestyle, so we're able to save/invest most of the money I make doing odd jobs.

I think you have proven that the true dollar cost averaging benefit would occur only if you were investing savings everyday of the year into the market but the system is not designed to allow that to be done. Consequently by only contributing once a month you most likely will regularly miss out on the lowest unit price by only buying in on that chosen date in the month.

@@johnristheanswer I am speaking from experience. I dollar cost averaged monthly into a managed fund for 25 years. As the share market has many more positive years than negative I mostly bought in at higher unit prices.

If your investments drop by 30% you should be ' Bothered' as it takes 42.8% to get back to even.That's a lot to correct when shares are at a lower price. Historically in the USA when rates come down so do stocks.

@@joshuat1535 many times. It can years to get back to even. In 2008 my investment, thankfully was only £5000 but it took 5 years to break even. That's a big loss with no gains for five years.

Too much of a generalisation. Rates have gone up over the last couple of years and so have stocks. What about before that when rates were near zero ? Stocks went up massively.
@johnB11ify
@johnB11ify Сағат бұрын
@@johnristheanswer It's not a generalization at all. It's a point in time where rates were lowered to near zero by the way and that particular fund didn't return. By the way not all funds in the last 15 or so years have had good returns. Just because some have made money does not represent all funds. How many years have you been invested in funds? Also with lower rates means the value of the currency is worse. So bigger gains are still lower in value because of QE.
