I think it was very brave of this guy to post his game footage all of us to see. I commend that. I loved your advice Toby. I think the most helpful advice I got from this was to look around more and look up. I would say me and this guy are on the same skill level and have really similar play styles, so your critiques of him really apply to me as well. The only difference with me is I am OCD about reloading. Also you said he’s been playing for a few months, I’ve been playing for over a year, so he’s learning this game pretty quick. I like how with the last guy, he aimed the flapjack down then up to negate the recoil, that’s also something I would have done. It is just really amazing how much me and him play alike. So both me and him need to start looking up more. Got it ;)

Thanks Tobi! I saw a lot of my style play in this clip. Failure to check surroundings, failure to reload immediately, and checking loot chests when not really needed. Many of these things I know I should (or shouldn't) be doing it, but just fail under pressure. I love this kind of video, please keep them coming.

A lot of old Fortnite players run with there pick axe out at times. You used have to hit pick up to get bullets/builds. Swapping to pick axe meant you didn't swap weapons in a big pile of loot. I've seen more than one reddit post from newer players saying it makes you run faster and that is why older players do it. But it is just a habit at this point. One that isn't that bad in builds where you always have cover, but is really something you have to break when playing no builds.
@AbstractOddity

Also in games like pubg you run faster with your weapon away rather than out so there was always a reason to put away your guns when running 😊

Big takeaways: 1. Reload, reload, reload. 2. Check surroundings carefully. 2.5. Keep an eye on high ground. 3. Always go around corners in a goofy way to keep from being jumped.

Loved this one and saw a lot of my own mistakes in it, as others have said. So many Fortnite content creators are so good, it's hard to get anything out of watching them because my hand/eye coordination at age 53 will never be what theirs is. Watching a fellow mortal play and get advice was super compelling. Would love a series where you coach a bronze, a silver, a gold, etc. so it becomes a little more clear what skills separate the tiers. And thanks so much to whoever donated the footage. So many people benefitted from it!

Do you have many build mode viewers? I would love to see a video something like ‘zero build expert tries build mode’! It would be fascinating to see your smart play style in that mode, and to have someone explain the fundamentals that most channels just skip past. Things like how to box up, hold a wall, identify enemy builds by colour, taking advantage of build HP, differences between mats etc… love all the zero build stuff though. You and Billy Bicep are the best FN KZbin channels for sure 😎 👏 🔥

Great video Toby, and great gameplay. I love this stuff. A couple of things I'd add or reiterate from what Toby already said. Shotgun/SMG Swap: At kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXO3fqeml7OjqNU you did great right-hand peeks with the shotgun. And while you used the ducking in and out of cover to give you the time between shotgun shots properly, if your second peek had been with the SMG, you might have been able to get the Elim in 2 actions instead of the 3 shotgun shots it took you. Shotgun/SMG swap is almost always going to get the Elim faster. But, I'm still working on that one all the time too, so I get it. Just don't get stuck in Shotgun battles. Consumables and Splashes: Like Toby said, just use them. I think many players (myself included) hang onto slurps and splashes too long, because we don't want to waste them, or we want to save them until later or for end game. But how many times have you been Elim'd holding on to a full set of splashes or slurps? All the time. Just use them. You will find more as you rotate, especially splashes or slap bottles. Again, how many fights do you lose where your opponent has like 20-40 health left. It can be close sometimes, and using those splashes as soon as you found them could be the difference. I think the general approach is like Toby said, reset after every fight. I'm also super OCD about reloading, but only because I got caught so often in the past by NOT doing it. But reloading health/shields has to be muscle memory. It's worth 30 seconds to do it in the moment and then move.

He may have heard about the myth that you run faster with your pickaxe out. I know when I first started a couple of years ago(C2S8) that my buddy (C1S3) told me that. I'm 75% sure it got disproven, but a lot of people do stuff like use the star wand pickaxe that had a bug that let it do more damage than other pickaxes even though they fixed the bug so who knows.

just gotta say the combat smg is a far better close range secondary. dps on mythic flapjack is 198 while dps on common cbt smg is 216. i will concede that the flapjack is more versatile tho.

Yes but DPS is everything. Most players can't control that vertical recoil or have to tap fore to hit more shots which lowers the DPS. I do agree though I rather have a blue combat over the mythic flapjack. Also if it's early game I don't like two of my three weapons using medium ammo.

I have no clue if this tip is in the video but an excellent tip that brought me up a rank. was to manipulate the environment by breaking a wall or a floor to get another angle on the enemies. if there is another object there to take cover then it's even better. I found a chimney that was on a wall. I broke the wall behind it and used the chimney as cover on a wall that had no window, giving me more angles to defend or attack. also depending on the situation can be bad because multiple teams are open to fire at you because of the increase of an open wall. in that case rotate to another area with a cover that you need to defend, the roof preferably. rotate back when it's preferable.

Thanks for this commentary and to the person who submitted the video. As a Silver ranked player I can see I need to work on my aim. Everything else I'm doing OK on - but it don't count for Jack if you can't aim!!! I've even resorted to sticking a more pronounced red dot on my monitor where my cross-hairs is. I has helped a lot. In another video you say you need to focus on lining up the dot to the player... which is obvious really, but you REALLY DO need to do that and tell yourself that. (Well, maybe player who can do this over time don't think to think about it.. NLP and all that but you know what I mean!)

Your rank is based on recent play. The first ranked match just reveals your rank. So if you are bronze 2 50% and you do solid your first game it might change you to bronze 3 but they already know what rank you are before the first ranked game. Like someone else said if they made a mistake or short ranked you after a few games you will be where you should be because you will move up fast against lower skilled players.

Love your vids and try my best to take your tips and remain conscious of them when playing but it all seems to go right out the window when I get in a fight. I’m a slightly average player but now, it’s gotten to a point where I don’t know what I’m even doing wrong when I’m repeatedly sent back to the lobby by people better than my skill level. It sucks because I’m rarely having fun anymore and might need a break. I think my biggest problem is the anxiety I feel when getting into gunfights or not being comfortable with fighting.

Are you playing on controller? It's really hard for me to throw a Shockwave, hit L3 (sprint button), line up, and jump in the direction i want in the half second I have before it goes off. I practiced hitting sprint in the pit after throwing the Shockwave and jumping. It doesn't change your Shockwave jump simce you dont have the soaring augment but when I'm in the air I would look at my sprint meter and if it went down a little I know I did a sprint jump before it went off and if my sprint was full I know I missed it. This helped a lot. If you have 4 paddles it's easier to assign another button to sprint but I don't so I made this work. If you are on M&K just practice sprinting before you jump in creative.

It looks like joining master shinobi is the best way to hopefully have my own training video like this. Is there any other fast track way to have one for my own game play? New to the channel but already liking what I am seeing.

You can book a one on one training at Tobywanshinobi.com , you can also purchase a video review there where I review 2 of your games.

Only been playing two weeks and my only main problem right now is the friggin footsteps bro... I could SWEAR someone is right above me so I look up and then they come running up the stairs from below me and shotgun me in the face 🙃 or it sounds like theyre definitely below me and then they drop like 3 levels from the roof and know exactly where I am and shotgun me. Got a lot worse once I hit diamond lol..

Coming from Apex you run faster without having a weapon out. I thought having the pickaxe out would make you run faster, maybe others think the same thing.

When he's off the jump pad and you suggest "spin round to take a look" I can never see enough detail at that elevation with a quick look. Players in the distance are just too small for me to pick up. How do you scan so fast?! Maybe I'm focused on the centre of the screen too much?

Probably too focused on center screen... my eyes are almost never center screen unless I'm fighting.

Running with pickaxe could be an FPS habit of thinking you move faster with no weapon but as an FPSer you would reload all the time so not sure what is happening.....

This guy is also playing with a joystick cause of the funky keybinds, definitely needs some optimal binds especially for reloading

He /she was probably running with their pickaxe out for the same reason I was at first. I came from CS:GO and running with your knife out is essential.

All this stuff makes it hard for regular players who can't afford it, or don't have time to do it. All these players should be in a different lobby than just regular players

I need to work on aim more I keep changing my aim sens too much 😞. I sometimes feel slow in terms of moving vs other players I don't know if sens would fix that 🤔.
@TobyWanShinobi

I would say sensitivity certainly can effect speed of movement, but not as much as most people give it credit for. I was playing on controller with linear setting and 24 sens and I could do most of my movement tricks without feeling much difference vs PC mouse and keyboard. The most important thing is to find a sensitivity you feel comfortable with for aiming and turning 180 degrees in a fight.

Yeah all the streamers and Google recommend at least 40% on linear but I found 35, 35% to be the fastest I can go and still hit shots without using ads. So I agree it doesn't have to be crazy fast to still give you the speed you need.
