Thing i love about this is that tochi at this time was unbeatable at the belt. Being an inexperienced fan I used to look at the rikishi’s demeanor and facial expressions and decide if I thought they looked like an up and coming Yokozuna. From looking at him I started rooting for him immediately. I thought he had the look of a potential Yokozuna. I didn’t know his history, but now that I know, I feel sad he’s had all the injuries. I’ve watched him drop steadily for 3 years. I still root for him but realize he’ll never have a higher rank higher than he has right now. Too bad, I really like the way he carries himself.

@aikalabe77195 жыл бұрын
Sumo is heavily ritualized, the tradition is that upon the first touch of the fists to the ground, the rikishi will then go back to their corners, and will usually wipe down with a cloth. The slapping and thumping on the body is a way to drive demons out and invite the deity in. Sometimes they will return to their corners again (this is done to rile the crowd/settle nerves/mess with the other fighter) though there is a time limit on how long before they must begin the bout.
