Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my
Father will love him and we will come to him.

Gospel: Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18
Jesus said to his disciples: “Pay attention, lest you perform your justice before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you shall not have a reward with your Father, who is in heaven. Therefore, when you give alms, do not choose to sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the towns, so that they may be honored by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your almsgiving may be in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.
And when you pray, you should not be like the hypocrites, who love standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets to pray, so that they may be seen by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. But you, when you pray, enter into your room, and having shut the door, pray to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.
And when you fast, do not choose to become gloomy, like the hypocrites. For they alter their faces, so that their fasting may be apparent to men. Amen I say to you, that they have received their reward. But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that your fasting will not be apparent to men, but to your Father, who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you."

Reflection: How do you feel about fasting and self-denial as ways to grow spiritually?
Prayer: My sacrificial Lord, You denied Yourself of many earthly delights, especially when You fasted for forty days in the desert. Help me to take seriously this obligation to fast and to mortify my appetites. And help me to do so in a hidden way. May my life continually imitate Your perfect sacrifice so that I may become more like You every day. Jesus, I trust in You.

The Gospel remind us to fast.try to do it every week esp. On FRIDAY in honor of the good friday sacrifice made by our lord.. F--focus on God A--abstain from food S--substitute your time T--taste & see the lord is good Let us pray : Lord, ur love is better than life, your word is better than food, & ur presence os our sustenance .May we fast in a way that brings glory to you..Amen🙏🙏

Amen, self denial is a wonderful way to strengthen ones faith. It is especially beneficial in evaluating our spiritual faith and beliefs. It is so easy to fall prey to our own self judgement when everything is going our way. The truth is, everything should not be going our way but God's way. This was the reason that the Pharisees became lost in their purpose as Jewish leaders. They had drifted so far away from their purpose that the law which Moses had given them was buried in the superficial meanings the priest had interpreted for them. Simplicity was lost in the law! The truth is, we today are less concerned with the law than we are for our own well being. It is difficult to understand what importance lies in a spiritual well-being and our carnal existence. There is nothing that we can't really do without. To deny ourselves will not weaken who we are, but maybe, just maybe we can face the reality of what it is that we really deem important in our lives. A life in the spirit is a life that has a direction, and more importantly, a journey with a purpose. We are in a constant position to strengthen our faith through serving our Lord. Everything we do is not for our benefit but for the benefit of God's Kingdom. Yes, self denial, fasting, anyway you want to say it is important for us to keep our eyes focused on the goal, eternal life! 🙏❤🕊🕊🕊
