It's hard to say exactly where those artifacts are coming from. Possibly related to playing back while simultaneously doing screen capture, or that the audio latency setting is too low. Or maybe the signal is peaking somewhere in the chain. Many possible causes, many ways to fix it.

Bitwig is amazing, so glad I bought it. Though the clips time signature changes need a serious look at. Instead of working similar to automation when you change lots of time signatures it needs to actually change the global time signature so we don't end up with issues with the pre count being wrong sometimes or counting in to play in a different time signature when the scene you are playing is not the main time signature in the transport section. Posted about this on twitter, reddit, the discord and emailed support so hopefully we can get some help with this! Looking forward to the new updates for Bitwig anyway.
@nomindseye4 жыл бұрын
Bitwig Time signature thing has always (along with its audio editing system) have been its weak points, at least as long as I've used it (since v2). DAW with the most fluid and easy audio editing capabilities has always to me been Reaper, but also the fact that time signatures can be completely absurd in it are great. I haven't actually tried this in a long time, but Bitwig used to just basically go "no, I can't hear you" if you wanted to put in anything other than 3/4 or 4/4 (or any multiplier of those) as time signatures.
@DrawAndErase4 жыл бұрын
It's not very good even in 3.3.1, especially using the clip scenes, playing the wrong measures, counting wrong if you don't manually change the time signature so it makes it a nightmare to do 5/4 into 7/8 to record. Ableton does this well with their edit launch time signature they need to take a look at that and possibily emulate it, if it actively commits the change and keeps the time signature change the last one played it might solve their issues. I made a post here if you are interested : www.reddit.com/r/Bitwig/comments/kyu44h/time_signature_issues_bugs/ But if not, hopefully they fix these problems because as you say it is a weak point!

Bitwig is great no doubt, but the lack of feature of exporting midi and wav files by just dragging it to the browser needs to be looked into (instead of exporting a clip which is not what we want most of the time. I cant even export wav files just by dragging a clip into the browser (I dont want to export a bwclip). Does BW have a mid side eq built in? I dont think so. But Ableton has one. Does BW have the amount of resources that Ableton has on YT? I dont think so. And so on. But, when i want to mudulate something, the amount and types of modulation BW gives is better than Ableton for now. You cant change my mind on that. Also the audio stretching modes (way more than what Ableton gives). And so on. You get my point.

I’m a 20+ year Logic guy, but respect your knowledge and skills. BitWig is interesting, but $399 vs Logic $199 makes it tough to recommend to noobs. Whenever I consider a DAW other than Logic, Apple seems quick to release the ‘best of’ features to stay competitive. For example, live loops (vertical orientation) dominated by Ableton was soon added to Logic X and I think Logic’s live loops feature is now better than Ableton, while Ableton’s track mode (horizontal orientation) is inferior to Logic, ProTools and StudioOne. I hear your BitWig workflow efficiency argument - that’s compelling. But, are there features or capabilities in BitWig that Logic is missing?
@truthbydesign51463 жыл бұрын
I think Bitwig is more noob friendly. The UI design is consistent throughout, from all the devices, to the top level stuff. The help system is also the best in the business, and there isn't as much complexity or any legacy cruft. Logic is extremely feature dense, which is great for pros, but can be overwhelming and off-putting to newbies. Logic has a ton of old legacy features and devices, which still retain their original, outdated UI design and don't look at all consistent with their newer additions. Of course with logic, that $200 investment is the end of the story ...free updates for life! ... $400 is just the first of many drops in the bucket with Bitwig , after the first year of free updates expires. But it's so worth it. imo. Especially if you love sound design, modular synths, experimentation and playing well with external hardware. It's fresh, exciting, and the type of fun environment that can inspire a newbie to stick with the craft.
@truthbydesign51463 жыл бұрын
I really think the decision depends a lot on the type of music you'll be making. If you're primarily live tracking acoustic instruments or drums, Logic would probably be the preferred way to go. If you're more into electronic music production, ITB, or accompanied by external electronic instruments, , Logic can certainly cover most of the same bases -- but I think Bitwig arguably has more to offer. It's like the best of Reason and Ableton, combined into a very forward thinking and accessible DAW.

@@truthbydesign5146What if you don't do the updates? Can you still work on an unupdated version without problems? I use Studio One Pro version 5.0 and refuse to update for fear of issues which is not uncommon and not wanting to fix something that is already working. How much are BW updates after the free year?
@truthbydesign51462 жыл бұрын
@@beatweezl My free year of updates just ran out a few months ago. I’m sitting in a stable release (4.1x) and really don’t have any need of the features added since then. I might update again in a year or two, depending on what’s added in the interim. 12 months of updates is $169, but there isn’t any need to pay unless they add new features that you really want. You also have access to all previous versions in case an earlier one is more stable for you.

Great fundaments. I think Bitwig should invest even more into these: transparent mastering grade/more true analog modeled ZDF filters (accesible in every device and for "transparent" oversampling where it is needed), smoother dynamics. With this you can build galaxy of tones :) EQ5+, new filters in Grid and new saturator is good example of finetuning what we already got. I think with new engine oprimizations they are heading there. More quality than quantity of functions and workflow.
