So at 5:00 when arranging to make faster workflow. I have a tip for developers: It would be great if i could just click the right middle button (while left is still clicked) while you are hovering the arrangment you wanna put in. When you right click the arrangment of the whole track to the right side would be moved/offsetted the amount of time that the new loop you wanna put in is. So that it fits the track. Right clicking again would close the bar gap back to normal. Coz this is the way i work my tracks. Always find somewhere i need to cut the track open & then need to make space 16 or 32 bars extra to put in the new sections. If you could just right click & boom it would magically open space for these new bars, that would be so clever if you ask me. You should even be able to setup how many bars, you wanted it to open up to the right of the track! Well just my few cents! ;)

Just a clarification - it's not only the devices with a dedicated sidechain input (or a button for one) that can be sidechained. There is also a modulator for adding a sidechain input to ANY parameter in ANY device. Ditto for audio rate modulation. This can be useful for adding sidechain to a particular band of the EQ, for instance.

A useful feature with the arrangement vs. clip views is that you can hit record and jam with the different scenes in the clip view, and what you're doing all shows up as an arrangement. Then obviously you can jump in and edit that. Another way I like to work with a mix of the two views is that you can have one track playing loops (clips) while the rest of the tracks are playing the arrangement, or vice versa. I find this useful when I'm working on adding a new track to something that I had started to arrange. Nice vid!

Thanks for a really thorough overview of how cool and easy to use Bitwig is. I used to be an FL Studio user, but I went fully Linux years ago. I was also surprised at how great Bitwig is. It has a very good piano roll which is the price of entry for any DAW. The signal processing capabilities, modulation, automation -- incredibly powerful. Then there's the Grid. Just wow. One thing that's often overlooked is the plug-in protection so that a glitchy VST can't crash the whole DAW. Another thing I really like is the piano roll option to display all your piano rolls while you edit, basically allowing you to see the entire score and switch from one instrument to another to edit.

I love it when you can easily add missing chains with electrons overbridge plugin. I still have to add the audio tracks manually though in the timeline so that I can record separate outs, But I guess it doesn't matter that much as I save the syntakt/digitone and digitakt setup as a template.

Didn't like it at first since most youtube tutorials use Fl Studio, and Ableton; so when I was learning I didn't realize how helpful it was for the user as it has so much stuff on the screen already, without having to shuffle through tabs and such.

I know RRP isn't quite your "brand" these days, but if you find some time to play with the demo, you might get to love it. Neat video, thanks! While I'd love to see more about Grid, what I think would be more interesting is to hear about your experience of moving from Cubase to BitWig, what's similar, what's different. Another topic I'd find interesting is a tutorial-ish comparison / recipes on how to do things in Reason Players versus BitWig 4's Operators. My initial feeling is that they can achieve a lot of the same things, but Players are easier to read and understand at a glance, but Operators have the amazing capability of working per-note. (Gah I really wish BitWig was available as a VST host inside Studio One...)

Wow. I am using Bitwig for more than 3 years now, and I have not realized that after automapping multi-out audio chains from a VST, those chains had their own seperate audio channels. I used to route the channels to new audio tracks and process seperately. Now after 3 years, I learn that we can process different audio outs within the same track. Never ever say that you know a software %100 inside out :)

If there's no way to edit the audio on board, I'm wondering if I could access the audio files and normalize in an external editor.? 2. Load audio files in an external editor Any thoughts are appreciated. BTW, thanks for your vids . . . big help!!!

This seems awesome for pre-production and production. Thinking of converting from Studio one if they will consider some feature requests for drum production. But honestly stuff is getting so complicated in music that technlogy is getting so overwhelming with so many endless options rather than a focus on musical writing itself. But Im glad you have also not neglected the music part of music as per your musical know how as well. Would you say this DAW is better than Presonus Studio One for preproduction/production?

I use FL Studio now but don't like that all things are in popup windows, it crashes often and it's not possible to set a negative offset on a track / sound. Everything pointed me at Ableton. Then I heard it was slow on startup and crashes as much as FL Studio. Then Bitwig came up. The crash problem is solved by that every vst run in an own isolated process. It also starts in notime. And made by a dropout Ableton programmer, probably one of their best. Maybe I will switch to Bitwig.

I want to like Bitwig. But I can't get the NI A25 working. Trying to add it to Controllers but it's asking for 2 Input and 2 Output ports. But the DAW in and output are not available in the dropdown. Anyone got the Axx series from NI working under Bitwig 3?

the only thing i'm missing or not found yet is there the same audio chopping function from cubase "setting your quantization, hit ALT+Cut " and it chopps your audio loop in all those 16th note bits or whatever you set up the timecode
@ClaudeYoung
@ClaudeYoung 2 жыл бұрын
There are several ways to do this in bitwig. Say you have a 1 bar loop. Select the Knife tool (#5 on your keyboard - tools are numbered 1-5 for quick access). Hover the tool over your audio, if you look at the very bottom of the screen it will always give you hint's about what you can do with the different tools. If you want to slice at a division, just hold ALT and drag across the audio. It will slice at whatever grid division you have in your arrangement or clip. If your grid is 16th notes it will slice at 16th notes. Another way is to select the audio, right click and you will see "Slice In Place" once you select that you get a menu that is just like the quantize menu allowing you to slice by divisions (including triplets and duplets) or by onsets (warp markers), etc. You can also slice directly to a Drum Machine or Sampler instrument. Hope this helps.

Something i really miss in bitwig sofar (coming from FL Studio) is a "Dry/Wet" or "Mix" button built in on every single plugin, exactly like FL Studio's mixer. Im finding it pretty annoying that i cannot change the wetness on some effects which do not have that option built in. Atleast I have not found any button/knob for this so if anyone has an idea about this, please enlighten me!

Easy workaround. Wrap your FX in a container, the chainer for example. This gives you wet/dry control of any plugin, or entire chains.

What up Venus Theory!!!! I have a quick question, can you do a more in-depth video on the Multi-Out Instruments from Falcon? For example, I see how to route it, but how do I record each sound on this own audio track? Do I convert the track to audio and all the files convert to different audio chains? Please explain how this works...Also, please do a deep dive video into the GRID - I want to know the value!!!!!

I'm a guitarist who's new to DAWs. How well does BitWig work for recording guitar? What about re-amping? All the tutorials I've seen always use a keyboard.
@VenusTheory
@VenusTheory 2 жыл бұрын
Bitwig is more or less like any other DAW when it comes to recording guitar - you'd just select a mic input from your interface or audio device and record away! I haven't messed with re-amping in Bitwig, but I'd assume it's really the same as any other DAW as the routing is the same as you'd find in other programs.

How is Bitwig Studio on CPU? And how is it at recording vocals? I see a lot modulation videos & sound designing features! Which is cool, But is it a replacement for Ableton Live & Logic Pro? I am learning Reason Studios because it is supposedly good with CPU consumption but is the time to learn it is needed! I will try Bitwig myself as I have it already but good hear others feedback on their experience with Bitwig Studios! I have Ableton Live 11 but having trouble with it’s configuration it keeps overloading on CPU and crashing! I also own Bitwig Studio but haven’t explored it yet! A bit lost at the moment similar to Ableton but I haven’t clicked with it yet! Guessing it will have the same issues as Live has with CPU over consumption and crashing! I also have Logic Pro and was transitioning to using that as it is a Apple Mac Brand should be better with CPU only I don’t like the workflow & layout of Logic Pro I have owned it for the longest but was put off with it’s workflow Fell in love with Ableton Live when it finally clicked after sitting on the intro version that came with a purchase! When I first got it I was lost so I went back to Logic Pro and still wasn’t happy so year later decided to try Ableton again and that’s when it clicked and was hooked! I have been having issues with the CPU So still looking for a replacement DAW!

Bitwig and Live share a common "uninterrupted audio engine" approach, this means no pre-rendering or larger buffers for un record armed tracks. Consequentially they're the most CPU consuming DAWs. Reaper, Digital Performer, Logic etc. will give you a little more CPU (20-35%) than these uninterrupted audio DAWs. You will get more glitches when you do things while the song is playing though.

Do you have tips for film scoring and working with time changes (both signatures and tempo) ? . I find it hard to switch from Cubase to Bitwig as I cannot sort these two on BitWig.....
@VenusTheory
@VenusTheory 2 жыл бұрын
Without video support, Bitwig is pretty hard to use for scoring or cue design. I typically use Cubase for that sort of stuff. Time changes, it's not all that hard by automating the tempo but as far as I'm aware there isn't a way to set markers for changing time signatures.

Hi, I have a question about Bitwig and Midi controllers and I just cant find a solution for this problem: If I have two synth plugins on two different tracks and map the cutoff on both synths to the same midi controller knob then no matter which track is selected or armed it turns the cutoff always on both synths at the same time??? Is it possible to just controlling the track which is armed or selected with a Midi controller? Thanks for help!
@michaelsnowviolin
@michaelsnowviolin Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's been annoying me, too. If your synth plugins have midi learn built in, use that to set the controllers inside each synth instead of doing it the way shown in the video. Then, the controllers will only change the cutoff for whatever synth is active. Make sure you delete the controller from the Bitwig Mappings Browser first before using midi learn inside the synth plugins.

Re:multi-out instruments, from the video on the sequencer it's still coming out from the one track. How do you make it so that each output has it's own track?

In the mixer it will come out in each layer - however, in the timeline view it's all one single track. Hopefully they change that in a future update as it can get a bit confusing!

There are times I strongly consider switching from Cubase pro to bitwig. Every update I hold my breath for Steinberg to finally add some modern global modulation sources, and every update I’m still disappointed. Setting up LFO tool is a pain in the ass & the MIDI inserts are dated & haven’t been updated in like a decade. It seems like it wouldn’t be too hard to implement global modulators using similar routing to quick controls, but these days I’m starting to feel like they are selling to the scorer / composer crowd & leaving requests from beat makers at the bottom of the pile.

This is cool. I've been looking at Bitwig because I want to move an older laptop over to linux. Anyway, Just curious, what about Ableton didn't click? Bitwig is basically ableton with a divergent development ideology. Clips / arrangement view, instrument and effects racks, live performance features, etc.. are are ableton features. The wrokflow is basically the exact same. Even the new(ish) modular feature is basically bitwigs version of max for live etc.. ? honest, curious question
