My ole man used to drive cabovers and he would make remote jumper posts on some of the cabovers that had their battery boxes in a tight spot. I remember he would go and get welding cable to make the jumper harness with.

I've had some success with some Rustoleum paint jobs before that seemed to work out pretty good. But none of them were a trailer being subjected to things like northern roads in winter. So I hope it works out okay. I'm also in the remote jump start terminal camp, but it's not my truck. Safe travels.

Regarding the APU, Our boat has a genset and the onboard batteries are wired to be charged when the 120v system is on. One time, we were at anchor and when we went to start the engine, not enough juice in the start batteries. So, we fired up the genset, let it run for 30 minutes or so, and then we were able to get the engine startup.

It's naturally occurring drama, Steve - I wouldn't worry too much about it. Whether it's you and Chris doing shop work, or it's you and Orwell making the deliveries happen, stuff is gonna happen...you just roll up the sleeves and get with it. It all works out. Btw, the over the cab view is great - hopefully there's more to come (depending on the height of the loads, of course). Keep the shiny side up!👍

I backed the video and slowly watched something fly out from underneath. We have allot of stray cat's at the yard and they always take care of the mice and rat problems. Jessie was like I never noticed that when I was watching. I was kinda watching the video when she was cause I was responding back to emai's.

Have Chris put a relay from the ignition of the APU to the coil of the relay and then the power out of the relay to the starter. That way the starter on the APU gets direct voltage from the battery and its not going through the APU control system, I put a ton of those on Kubota's.

All fuel is organic. The soybeans may have algae that processing doesn't kill and then grows in the fuel. Not sure, just a thought.
@dirtyericАй бұрын
Diesel Fuel Bug (algae) is not a new thing, its been around since diesel. We add an additive for it to the fuel tank every fill up on the boat and still polish (multi-step filtration process) the fuel in the tank annually just to be safe. Don't need fuel issues in the middle of the ocean.

Update: I honestly thought the problem WAS NOT solved by replacing Orwell's four batteries when I first saw the Headline for this specific video. Steve, I just saw the Headline on the thumbnail pic. My initial reaction to that headline was "Oh Boy!" Between you and Chris are going to have fun tracing the electrical short/open circuit. There is one genuine curiosity that I have about the 84 Peterbilt 3406-B engine's electrical system: is the voltage regulator a separate unit from the alternator? The only reason that I ask this question is my personal experience with a 1998 Dodge Caravan that I used to own. I had a starting issue because the battery dropped below 12 volts. Thinking the voltage regulator might be the problem, I took the vehicle to my local AutoZone store and asked them to do a free inspection of the charging system and starter. The testing device determined my voltage regulator was not working properly. I asked the clerk to tell me the price of the voltage regulator. The clerk told me the base price was $225 dollars. His reply to my price gouging objection was to inform me that the voltage regulator was located inside the alternator. I am very curious to see what you and Chris determined the reason Orwell didn't want to start when I get the chance to watch the video.

Get yourself a portable jump box that can do the voltage you need for your truck ,also not sure if the apu has its own battery if so mabe a battery separator switch so it saves the battery on the apu . And mabe it can help orwell to start just aome suggestions otherwise your going through your wiring to see if something is on after you turn off your truck and thats not fun. Have a geat week until the next video keep the hammer down and between the lines .

You need a isolation switch on the battery switch it off when you park up and that will stop any battery drain.
@Jesse_Jessie_JamesАй бұрын
Dam i hate it when that happens to driver's who are leaving early in the morning. And one driver was always having to get a jumpstart. And we found the issue that was causing his batteries to go dead. And he never had a dead battery after we fixed the issue. U should get a shutoff valve somewhere that is easy to reach when u get out of the Semi Steve. We have that also in our KW.

I live in the southern state of Brazil near Uruguay and Argentina, Brazilian truck drivers in the US, UK, Italy. I used to watch but the content wasn't interesting and I found your channel looking for something about Montana, your sense of humor is very good, the details you put into editing the videos, that camera you lost and left the trailer, then the guy left the camera there. That Green APU needs its own stand alone battery that can never be discharged by the truck or any of its circuits. Something like a marine battery in its own case that is wired so the APU can always start itself, and thereby the truck, without any losses of energy to the truck in a case like this. It's definitely possible to isolate a battery to make the APU completely stand alone. Then, when it's running it can charge itself and Orwell to allow a start under any conditions, or at least survival just on the APU itself. If the Green APU needs a nominal twelve volt supply signal just to function electronically, that signal needs to be able to be there totally within the APU system itself, and not depending on run down main truck batteries, no matter whether something was left on or not.
