Other suggestions i've discovered that some business' have done to survive. 1. In my city an Indie record store & an Indie video rental store moved in together to share rent & cater to customers who want to buy music & rent movies. 2. Another Indie record store has a 2nd floor & half of it was converted for a rehearsal space for local bands at night who pay a fee per night. Neighboring stores are closed at night so nobody complains about the noise. 3. Another Indie video store has events where they charge a fee for use of their space after hours for... "Film Fan groups", "Book Club meetings", "Indie Filmmaker screenings", "Art exhibits", "Film & TV productions, etc. 4. Indie record stores who are also a Record Label, Distribution for other record labels, CD & vinyl manufacturing plant, music management, ticket seller (club shows)

If I’m looking for a particular movie, i never find it on netflix or on demand. Streaming services constantly rotate what they have available due to licensing and rights issues. They’ll never have the many options of titles that video stores had. One day you can throw a movie on your watch list, the next day it’s disappeared. That old cult movie that you can only find on vhs because it was never released to a digital format? Forget about it. If you don’t have a copy of the vhs, you don’t have a way to watch the movie. Sure, streaming services allow you to be lazier, if that’s what people want. I personally want more options. There are sooo many movies available, and streaming services tend to cater mostly to current and more modern movies. For those of us who love to browse through movies made before the year 2000, we really miss video stores.
@raisetheroof14925 жыл бұрын
I miss working there. Was very fun being able to take home movies and watch them "for homework", and then return the next day and be able to recommend customers your favorites and give opinions on various titles. My favorite part was seeing new video game titles come in and and be able to see what's coming out. Too bad though that the store manager at my location was very micromanaging and rude- and one week even decided to give me 2 hours for the whole week, my other coworker 0 hours, and then the new employee 20 something hours. Not to also mention that a coworker there (that worked there a little longer than I did) was very finicky about helping me with stuff and only looked out for herself. I don't know how family video is as a company, but all I know is that the store I worked as was pretty dysfunctional. Such a shame that I had to leave such a fun job.

The closest Family Video to me, is about 50 some odd miles away, but you know what? I'm glad that they're there. And where I live, in a rural area, we don't always have the best internet, so Netflix is not always an option. I think, Family Video would do really well in rural areas, I know they have some stores in areas with a large amount of farms, but I mean actual rural areas. I have to go 13 miles to get to the closest Walmart, that doesn't sound like a lot, but keep in mind I live in the United States, Where Walmarts are almost everywhere. The closest town to where I live, only has a Dollar General and a gas station, there are no other stores there. that's a bit closer than the Walmart is, so I could see them doing well, with the family video there. Not to mention, I don't live too terribly far away from Augusta, Georgia, so I would imagine that during the Masters Tournament, they would make a good bit of money. Some people prefer to rent movies the old-fashioned way, I know I do. Well, I would, if there was a video rental store near me.

At the other I got: 1) The King and I.* 2) Super Size Me.* (Although I have a different copy of it now.) Then there were mystery boxes, Blu-rays, 4ks, etc. One had family movies, 9 for $7. It had: 1)Camp Rock. 2)Furry Vengeance. 3)Night At The Museum. 4)The Odd Life of Timothy Green. 5)The Polar Express.* 6)Ralph Breaks The Internet. 7)RV. (I have a different copy of that now.)* 8)Spiderman: Into The Spider-verse.* 9)The Spider wick Chronicles. *Watched it. When I was in high school/college I applied multiple times to ones in my hometown, but was never hired as it wasn't during their busy time (the summer vs the winter). After being fired, I applied at a Family Video nearby and was called in for an interview.
