@jjryan1352 Жыл бұрын
@@gregquinn7817 strongly disagree. It's too sleepy of a show. I'd say that Cheers is more of a show about nothing than Seinfeld. If you ask someone who's watched a lot of episodes of both shows, I'm confident they will more vividly recall many episodes, scenes and lines from Seinfeld and have trouble remembering anything specific about Cheers. Cheers was more of a vibe that left general impressions of the characters: the dumb one, the drawn out romance, Carla's insults, etc. Probably the only specific thing they will remember is the theme song and "Norm!" Cheers was one of my favorite shows at the time because it had an ongoing "soap opera" storyline and the actors were mostly excellent, but today it feels too chill and rather drab. In any case Cheers is much more rewatchable than Friends, a truly insipid show that is remembered for the theme song alone.

What made Cheers, Frasier, Mash and Moonlighting my favourite comedies of all time was that they never pandered to the audience. It was quality writing and acting all the time and they held to a standard, and I did not get all the jokes all of the time. With those shows, I found the clever jokes with a mix of double entendre refreshing, and the ones that not everybody would get, the funniest.

Growing up in the 80s and first half of the 90s, I used to think if bars and pubs are just like Cheers, they must be the greatest places on Earth where you meet friends for life. Then towards the later 90s and 2000s I started to frequent bars and pubs and found out it's nothing like the fantasy of the Cheers TV show. I never saw a group of "white collar after work" regular crowd that showed up. Yes I've gone to a bar after work, but it's hardly like Cheers. It's rare to see anyone walk in dressed in a suit and tie, especially after 7pm when the 20 something party crowd shows up. Sometimes a woman has a dress on, but rarely. Usually, people are more dressed in a formal casual way, jeans and dress shirt, or sometimes in recent years just showing up in tracksuit and/or pajamas. I am sure someone will tell me they know a bar similar to Cheers, but all the ones I went to have regular barflies that are toxic people, more scummy folks. Cheers made me think that pubs were frequented by people over 35 on a regular basis, and yes you will find that group every now and then, but it's mostly a young young singles crowd instead of a Cliff Clavin or Norm Peterson. Three's Company's Regal Beagle had a more accurate, true to life bar than Cheers did that's true for the 80s and today, yes Mr. Furley or Mr. Roper could show up, but someone over age 35 or over 40 usually stuck out, and people dressed casually nice instead of walking in with a suit and tie on.

Cheers was such a great show and Frasier is one of my all time favorite sitcoms.

Ted Lasso spoiler - Loved the little nod to 'Cheers' in the 'Ted Lasso' finale, when Mae (the bar owner) reaches up and straightens the same picture of Geronimo. Probably most know this, but 'Ted Lasso' star Jason Sudekis is the nephew of George Wendt. There was also an episode of 'Ted Lasso' with a conspicuously placed picture of Wendt (as Norm from 'Cheers') on the wall of a restaurant.
