I saw Sonny and Cher at the CNE in Toronto in 1972, when I was 11. I've always loved Cher and although she was always beautiful, I really loved her look before her surgeries.

One day later it's great to see all the top comments are respectful of the greatness that is Cher. There's no disputing the quality of her output but for me the differentiator has always been her reflexive sense of humour. There's always a joke at the ready. Also that ABBA covers album which just demonstrated the narrative power of her voice which gave an unexpected poignance. The 'Name of the Game' is the standout, she pulls out all the tension in a way that ABBA never could.

She's had that "third" lip for about 15 years. They disguise it better on film and videos. It's migrated silicone. I guess it would be too disfiguring to have it cut out, or she's already had a few surgeries on it? Think of Priscilla Presley.

Cher and Dolly have both hit the wall where plastic surgery can't do much for them anymore. They both look quite elderly even in full drag as Dolly would say. Especially in the light of morning television, I don't think Cher looks young at all. She looks about 70 years old which would horrify her. The too long too dark wig is not helping her. But I think Cher is quite strong physically and she can still sing and move a bit. She's a great, fun, kickass personality. The need to hang onto fame and keep appearing "young" seems a bit sad to me - but she's hardly the only one.
