The one life lesson I learned from her book is: When you REALLY love someone, you don't posthumously talk about how poor they were and how they slept on a mattress on top of a piece of rug that looked like it never been vacuumed, and how when the rats started getting to close for comfort, he had to go dwell in a wealthy schoolmates home. Many relationships are complex. What happens to us in childhood (or doesn't happen to us) impacts our adulthood. In likeness, MANY of us go into marriage with little to NO good guidance on HOW we are to date, let alone be a husband or wife. To me, Jada and Will sound like two people who've given their ALL to make it. Why are people so harsh on those who've tried and tried and tried? Will's a big boy. It's okay for him to chose Jada if he wants to and vice versa. It's a shame that humans are so very judgmental. If only people knew the depths of trauma MAYBE they would understand HOW COMPLEX relationships truly can be. However, without any form of empathy or willingness to DIVE the DEPTHS of humanity, our comments reveal the true state of our hearts. My conclusion: if Jada and Will want to continue their relationship, making it ever-more beautiful and healthy, then good for them. That's a heck of a lot more than others would even dare to try!

The revelation of themselves is very indicative of the state of relationships and or behaviors that hurt people. No wonder we are collectively destroying ourselves. I actually listened to the memoir on audible, and as a married woman in her 29th year, and reflecting on all my traumas going into this marriage, it’s an eye opener to say the least. Her memoir has NANY lessons that the reader can take in their lives for the better. The prompts at the end of each chapter were surprisingly helpful for me. I don’t have to know her, I’m many ways I am her as a black woman in a almost 30 year marriage carrying losses of trauma. Taking accountability is a HUGE step in healing and understanding. I’m still reeling from her words. For anyone that is ready to really start the healing journey in their own lives, I 10 out of 10 recommend this memoir. Great read (or listen in my experience).
