OMG. Especially if you discussing film roles with a major studio executive this is professional meeting. I would have arranged to brought my lawyer and my assistant with me. Out think the predator!
@hellowendy10296 жыл бұрын
Ok, I actually have a serious answer for you, unlike the other 2 jerks who commented, because I also used to think this until someone pointed something out that I hadn't realized. Harvey Weinstein was not staying in a hotel room like you or I would. He was staying in penthouse suits, with sitting areas and a separate office. So the bedroom would be off down a hallway, rather than walking right into it like a standard hotel room. You would walk into a living area with separate rooms. When I heard that, it changed my feelings about that and how it's understandable that women would rationalize that it would be ok. You however are right that you should never ever go meet someone alone like that. Hope that helps 😊

Thunderbolt - First, I'm sorry for your loss. I disagree with you that actresses and actors (whom I'm going to refer to as simply "actors") cannot do anything that helps people by being in the acting industry. It is often through watching a movie or TV show that certain things are conveyed or taught to the rest of us for the first time, or in a way that we can more readily take in and understand vs. only reading a textbook or listening to a lecture. Obviously the value of the information depends on what that production is about (i.e., a soap opera isn't going to teach the same thing as a movie about a real person, nor will the reliability of the information be the same between the two). For instance, I have a good friend who realized she was in a potentially abusive relationships when she watched a Lifetime movie (of all things!); her boyfriend had already made her stop seeing or talking to most of her family and friends, wanted her to let him manage her finances, and was very jealous and suspicious if she wasn't home exactly when he expected l etc.; although some of her friends and family had tried to warn her of some of the same signs, it wasn't until she saw the overdramatic and not necessarily well acted portrayal on Lifetime that she understood our concerns and how these things looked to us ... which helped her recognize that our concerns might have merit. The show also provided information on who she could contact if she needed help or more information, so she was prepared when she decided she needed their help. Being successful at acting also enables individual actors to give large amounts to charitable causes, so many actors find ways to help the rest of society in very important ways, and in ways which they themselves think is more important than the manner in which they earn their own living, but they wouldn't be able to help nearly as much if they had different jobs. Acting can also have enormous value to us non-actors by providing us a way to take our minds off of our own reality for a while, too. Some examples from my own life are: helping me start laughing again after a loved one died; lifting my spirits when I was severely depressed; giving me moments when I can imagine NOT being disabled, or when I can clearly remember what life was like before I needed back surgery; helping me realize life would get better when I was being bullied during middle school - and even teaching me some effective ways to deal with the bullies; and helping me understand Shakespeare's _Romeo and Juliet_, which was very difficult for me to understand before I saw actors playing the roles, and which helped me escape from whatever challenging experience I went through ever since because now I can understand and enjoy almost anything Shakespeare wrote, etc. The value of each of the above varies, of course, but each one DOES have real value. So, it just isn't accurate to say that acting is a job that never helps anyone else. However, I agree with you that a nurse is far more able to DIRECTLY help people through her job, and also that nurses are far more important to the world than acting is. Had you said that nurses should be paid more than actors, and that income should be indicative of the importance that particular job has to society, I would wholeheartedly agree with you. Teachers, doctors, nurses, firefighters, police, those in our military, social workers, and so on are all very much underpaid in our society, especially when compared to actors, professional sports players, and so on.

@Thunderbolt are you Indian?
@KeldorDAntrell4 жыл бұрын
@@hello-vs4dc The problem here that you are totally brushing under the carpet as if actors are all first class people is the enormous wealth the most successful ones get. Don't try to pretend that the 'work' they do (dressing up and pretending) justifies making them multi-millionaires who get red carpet treatment every day for the rest of their lives e.g. they don't pay for their clothes but instead have design houses begging them to wear their outfits, don't pay for their meals because restaurant owners are begging them to eat in their restaurant, etc. The fact that some actors give money away to charity also doesn't justify their wealth. For a start, they don't all do it. Secondly, not one of them does it to the extent that they can no longer afford to live in Beverly Hills etc. It's easy to give money away when you're up to your eyeballs in it and have everything you could possibly want *and* can right it off as a tax break. The value of TV shows isn't so great that the world couldn't do without them. Everything they do can be got from other things (and therapy and advice is best got from experts). Moreover, you argue that the examples you give prove "real value" when in fact the value you ascribe is entirely subjective. Just because YOU found a show of value doesn't mean that it is *objectively* and *inherently* worthy. The obscene inequality of pay between actors and doctors, nurses, firefighters, etc. isn't helped by apologists like you who actually have the profession wildly out of proportion.

I always do my very best to treat women with respect, kindness and compassion. I know that while both genders are capable of mistreating others, in this case, the heart of the problem is the men. The best way to work towards solving a social issue is to raise young men up to value others and be respectable in the way they conduct themselves. Encourage a culture of excellence among men. Women also have a responsibility to behave honorably and with modesty, but in general, as with sexual harassment, the solution starts with the men.
@laurischoolmarm5 жыл бұрын
No, Karl, the solution does NOT start with the men. That implies women are little Barbie dolls that must be protected from the mean men's world. This erroneous thinking perpetuates the problem. No! WOMEN must take responsibility for themselves by refusing to place themselves in compromising positions because of their naivete OR their belief they can "control" the situation for their own ends. Men do what they do, and most do what they can get away with. Women must acknowledge that and act accordingly.

"I wanted to keep a good relationship with him," she said. So is it that she KNEW he was a predator and went to his room anyway because she wanted his favor? Perhaps I'm missing something, but it seems her actions make her complicit in his predation. It's disturbing how these women place themselves in close quarters with these men, KNOWING by evidence and through their own intuition that these men have lewd intentions, and STILL place themselves in these situations to further their careers. Of course he says it was consensual. He can truthfully claim they came to his room willingly (knowing he'd already made a pass or suggestive comment), no matter what they say after the fact. Men smell weakness, and if these women do not present themselves as victims, up to and including physically attacking him when he attempts this, like any bully, he would back off. Why, why, why don't these women remove themselves, even if by force, when these sexual bullies do this? It seriously compromises their credibility and magnifies men's expectation that we can be used for their amusement. DON'T WE HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP OURSELVES OUT OF HARM'S WAY?

Well said! What Harvey has done is despicable and he is a predator....at the same time we need to empower ourselves and not make it easy for predators. They feed on the ones that will not speak up or will back down from "no" or continually go to private meetings....take your power back!

I agree & some of these females need 2 learn self respect & stop going 2 private spots like hotels & think they gonna get a bedtime story or a cup of milk with a plate of cookies which is not gonna happen any grown female should know that & use good judgment

Megyn you are so rude the way you keep persistently pushing for the gory details from these women. Not unlike the way Harvey persistently pushed them.

Both of these women seem like they felt they need to do this to get roles. This is definitely abuse of power, but not exactly sexual assault.

sadly, I don't believe what they male lawyer said about other industries not tolerizing this behaviour... this probably happens in many companies as well. If the boss harasses women, what employee confronts him or goes to the police and risks losing their job?
