I know what people say, but only about 20% of our budget goes to the military, the rest is all welfare programs. the same welfare programs people try to hop over the fence to come try and claim on a daily basis. we have a pretty big population compared to most countries out there which is why we can't do much in terms of "muh free healthcare". its never free, someone ends up paying for it in the end. free stuff always raises taxes on others which puts them closer to the poverty line because now they have less money that they worked for to use on things they need. we have too many people for it. we'd be stuck in line all day long trying to see a doctor all because someone had the sniffles just a little too much and read on WebMD that they're going to die in 24hrs.

I assume this national death register is on some sort of database. So why don't they program it so that a death has to be recorded with either the time and date, the location or the cause of death, and if none of this information is included, the system either ignores the entry, or generates an error prompting somebody to investigate? That should prevent any deaths being recorded with just a name or any non-death-related information.

That probably isn't too uncommon. When I was 19 and attending the local college, Dad pissed someone off at Sepulveda who hadn't been doing their job. He started getting letters insisting he prove the children he was claiming or pay back years of disability compensation. Each time, he filled those forms out and provided documentation, but he could not get this to stop recurring each month. At no point was he ordered to pay, though, just the constant fresh repeated threats. After months of this we happened to move to another state. Dad had his records transferred to the new regional office. He then brought me, my birth certificate, SS card, military dependent's ID card, passport, and yet another copy of that paperwork out to that office. The person we spoke to checked the computer and found no record of his claimed children. She acknowledged the documentation he'd brought and my existence, and said she'd get it all entered, saying it's important to provide that info so it can be entered into the system. Dad patiently reiterated that he had done this 6 times in the past few months and that's why he'd come in personally with one of his children. She left to pull his physical record, and returned with her face drained of color, telling us to wait while she conferred with her boss. Not just one, but all 6 copies of those packets were in that physical folder. Maybe it's a much, much bigger deal to screw with physical records than computer records? Otherwise why not "lose" those, too? I wonder if your physical record might have looked similar. She confirmed without naming it (hinting that she could not do so) that it stunk of retaliation, and stated that her boss was going to have the matter addressed. No issues in the 17 years since. The regional office and the hospital he sees now have both been really great - the VA system is really hit-or-miss like that.

When I first read the title of this video, I thought of a friend who awoke from surgery on a gurney in the morgue with a tag on his toe. My first response was that you just had to get the attention of someone working in the morgue. What the video is actually about is vastly more interesting, actually relevant to more people, and quite clearly explained. Thanks.

So ... what heppened to that Miller guy, then? If he was declared legally dead by the judge, how did things go from there for him? You can't throw something like that out here and not follow up on it. Did the judge order a death penalty to make true what had been decided? Did Miller commit suicide to make it right? Or did something else happen, which would've eventually lead to his ex wife having to pay back?

I live in Australia. At one point in my 20's our house was robbed and ALL my Id's were stolen. Thankfully my parents were still alive, so I could get a replacement birth certificate - which enabled me to get everything else replaced.... otherwise it looked like I would not be able to prove who I was - it was looking really worrying. When my drivers licence was replaced, the clerk made an error in my last name with one incorrect letter. IT TOOK ME 29 YEARS TO SET IT RIGHT. In the end, I sat for my drivers licence as a new person - with the correct spelling - so my Drivers Licence matched my passport and birth certificate. What was most disturbing about the whole thing was the government red tape that can just 'lock you out' - and no central place to co-ordinate it all. I can see how very easy it might be to become a non identity.

This went in a different direction than I was expecting; I was once, after surgery and while being completely paralyzed and unable to move, breathe or speak, declared dead (a doctor commented “well, she’s gone “), how they figured out I was alive I’m not sure, since I quickly lost consciousness again. I’d love to hear about how to “prove “ you’re alive in that situation!

For the military at least in the U.S. or any gov occupation that requires a security clearance. You are required to fill out then file an SF86 and fingerprints are taken along with photos of you. I am not sure the process for everyone regarding Federal Issued Identification Cards (CAC Cards) but your fingerprints are general confirmed to your file again. Also, before going on any overseas assignment with an emphasis on war zones and particularly hostile countries. You’re asked to review POF (Proof of Life) questions and your personal history. POF questions are deep dive questions that have never been used by the person online and are only questions that are known to those closest to you. Generally, the questions and answers surround good moments/memories that are simply to remember particularly under stress. I was told not to use any of the questions or answers in online security questions. I was also asked to provide a large number of them on the form. Basically being declared dead in theory should be easier to come back from as military or government personnel. I know for a fact the government knows quite a bit about me, has old drivers license/passport photos, fingerprints, places where I’ll lived, high school friends names/addresses, POF questions and answers, my family’s names/addresses, phone numbers, social security number, and a ton of other stuff. Then again individuals have committed stolen valor, foraged documents, and were able to collect military benefits from the VA without ever being a veteran. Hell a man that committed stolen valor even testified before Congress...

One of the most terrifying episodes that I saw in 1966 when I was in high school was a rerun of the 1st or 2nd Alfred Hitchcock Presents or Alfred Hitchcock Hour program from the late 1950s. It started Joseph Cotton in a similar situation due to a car accident. Finally he was able to shed TEARS and was saved. You must see this!!! It has affected me for decades to this day!!!

so, what should happen when you get declared alive again: * the government repays all money that was taken from your bank * if you lost your property, it is forcefully given back or if impossible compensated at 100% value ( in case someone else buys your property, its given back to you, and they get compensated instead ) * any job lost due to this is given back with the same contract as before , in case its not possible, government pays out whatever salary you had until you get a new job, and then if the new job has a worse salary, pays out the difference * any time lost due to fighting this, and any expenses, like lawyers, is paid back in full * hefty compensation for trauma/inconvenience is given then they track down who/what agency submitted the false death claim, and demand the money from that person/agency, unless they had good reason to assume the person was dead. anything else than this is injustice.
@evannibbe93754 жыл бұрын
The last bit of tracking down the clerical error is problematic for the reason that someone could just disappear for a while (say, by being kidnapped) and eventually they have to be declared dead in order to have the highest value from their property (just as a matter of how the free market works).

I have an Aunt (by marriage) who was adopted. In order to persuade her birth mother to not go looking for her, a doctor produced a fraudulent death certificate, which was then registered in the system. Because of how long it took for anyone to realize that she'd been declared dead, all parties involved, except for her, are dead. The fact that a death certificate was made for her apparently complicates things a bit. Getting those annulled is apparently harder than you'd expect. Especially if it was issued 40 years ago.

My Grandfather, a disabled vietnam vet with serious health issues that can be traced back to that, was declared dead two or three times before his actual death. Considering his medical military discharge and disability from such, it was the only thing keeping the family in money for sometime. When that went down there were times where none of us ate unless he killed a deer than ran onto the property when we lived out in the middle of nowhere. No pension, no disability, no nothing on some serious disability checks while taking care of himself, his wife, three children and a grandchild was... very difficult. I remember being told they had to fight for over a year at one point to "prove I wasn't dead!" so that he could start receiving his benefits again.

Proving youre alive after being declared dead was waaaaay harder for me than just showing some id. I had to have witnesses and everything I owned with my name and or picture on it and multiple trips to government facilities. (I live in the US) While declared dead I was however able to get married and have a child and the government had no issues with collecting my taxes. This was over 10 years ago for me and Im still suffering from the repercussions.

My brother passed away and about a year later got a summons for jury duty. My dad called to tell them he had passed, but apparently a death certificate wasn’t good enough for the DMV (they run hurry duty lists where I’m at). They said they would make a note but that wasn’t really enough proof and my dead brother might get served for not appearing
