It's amazing how you can turn him and stop him so cleanly! Even with tack I can't get clean turns like those. He's so trusting in you and your clearly so trusting in him. Beautiful relationship.

my horse is older and she was just a hack before and relies so much on the bridle to tell her what to do, but we've come such a long way in the past few months that I've had her and we're already free riding over jumps! such an inspiration, my next goal is to gallop tackless - or at least bareback :P

Could you do a video that goes into detail about how to train a horse to back up with just your legs? I find it amazing how you do this and want to know how I can teach my horses 😁
@sentbythewind7 жыл бұрын
Hi - I trained my horse to back up when bareback and no bridle/reins. First, when under saddle and with a bridle, when I back him up the proper way, I always said 'back back'. He seemed to learn those words. Then, when bareback and 'free riding', I initially brought my feet all the way forward near his chest and tapped with the ends of my feet / my toes on his chest. I'd also say 'back back'. As soon as he backed up even one step, I'd praise the hec our of him!!! Soon, he got it and did it right away. My horse is warmblood size - so it is possible with any size horse or person. Your feet may reach all the way around to the horses front of their chest or just to the side. He now knows what it means. So, that is how I did it. Then, you slowly make the big exaggerated movement of putting your legs all the way forward and tapping on the horses chest with your feet to then a smaller more subtle movement of just slightly moving your feet forward and taping with your toes behind or on the top of the front legs (or any variation of that). I also always say 'back back' in a certain tone. Maybe this helps you :-) Again, there is no right way to do it....just make up your own way and go with it. They key is AS SOON as your horse does what you want, praise the hec out of them! Then do it again so they realize the actual action that was correct :-)
@rachelkerber17715 жыл бұрын
Praise can also include pressure release which is the most beneficial! So if you ask something as soon as they do it release the physical pressure.
@vanessaultimo19264 жыл бұрын
Just train a word command from the ground and then combine it with the leg movement whilst riding....you can stop saying the word command at some point.

You are such a kind, lovely person to horses You let him chill, have fun and do it in a way where he isn’t stressed or abused You talk to him, reward him and don’t freak out if he does it wrong You have come such a long way with gold rush and I think you should be very proud of yourself and his journey You really have changed the way I look at free riding and I can’t wait to try it soon with my pony You are an inspiration many others especially the less confident riders Gold-rush has such a calm, gentle personality and I think he is a very safe horse You are very lucky to have such a special bond and find a horse like that ❤️❤️❤️ I just wanted to say THANKYOU for always being such an amazing person Well done from your biggest fan, Sophie, I am a member at Wellington riding P.S hope gold rush gets better soon I subbed Xxxxx

I try this too from time to time (maybe you've seen the video on my channel already?) but it's so hard! I am also only doing the basics right now, and I find speed changes (for examples from collected to extended walk/trot/canter) the hardest thing about it 🙈😉 but it's a great challenge, looking forward to see your progress! 😃

Dispite the fact that Frosty is most comefortable bareback, She'd just run off with me. We are currently working on bitless bridle, but I think Frosty will just run off if I try tackles. Or just eat.
