The people you see in the so called “news” are the few and do not represent us. Americans and Englishmen have worked, fought and bled together in times just as, if not as dark as these. My parents helped get this started. I saw a lot of names i recognize. Good to hear they're still doing this. I saw about 5 rifles my dad built in the hands of competitors there, little emotional for me. I'm surprised they allow scopes now, the first matches were all Soule Sights/open sights only. For those of you who don't know: These guns are 40/65, 45/100, and 45/120 caliber buffalo rifles. Most are highwalls, and you'll see a few low-walls as well. Most have a 400-440 grain bullet weight with some approaching 460. Most have a 14twist. Most will use paper patching in the load. Prone/sitting/offhand are allowed in the competition but the angle of elevation needed on the rifle means most people sit to shoot. These guns are worth around 1.4k US and some approaching as much as 7k-8k brand new. They don't make ammo for these guns have to buy your own brass and load your own. Most people have manually reshape their brass to fit the chamber. Loading for a single match takes about 4hours start to finish. If anyone is still reading this, my dad was Harold Forcum. That won't make a difference to 99% of you, but the few who attend these and read this will know who he is. ;) They probably have a shooting box, Soule Sight, or action/triggers from him. :)

there is a fast-draw sport that does the duel style: the CFDA (Cowboy Fast Draw Association), the difference is though that you're not shooting at each other (for obvious reasons), you're shooting at a steel plate target 15ft away (some places do bigger targets at longer ranges) and the targets have a timer attached to them so you get a time when you hit, if both of you hit your individual targets it's the faster time that wins, i highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get into the sport, my profile picture is me in a practice match
@garyheaton47913 жыл бұрын
They should have a "cowboy action shoot" either before of after the Quigley shoot. Although some CAS shoots DO have a buffalo gun competition as one of the stages, as well as a pocket pistol stage! It would be fun to be able to shoot them all in one place! 😁✌️

@@fredjones7705 completely understandable, but i realize i forgot to mention in my original comment that we're not using live ammo, we're shooting a piece of wax at propelled by a 410 shot shell primer at 750ft per second, it's still fast enough to seriously hurt someone, but a lot of the holsters we use have a steel plate deflector at the bottom of the holster to stop it from hitting your leg directly, but i have seen some just take that plate out of the holster through the leather, but by that point it's lost all power behind it, effective range of those wax bullets is like 25ft, and we take all the safety precautions possible to make it safe for everyone involved, but it's not everyone's cup of tea

I've been living in western Montana since I retired from the Air Force 14 years ago, but I don't recall ever hearing of this match. I'll pass the word around. As an anecdote, in the late 1980s I had a shooting buddy in New England who complained to me that his special order Sharp's rifle from Shiloh had been delayed because they were busy building an extra long barreled version for Tom Selleck. He didn't understand what all the fuss was about until a year or so later when the movie "Quigley Down Under" came out. Anyway, he eventually got his rifle and enjoyed drilling holes at 600 yards with it (as far as our club range went).

My Aussie kids grew up on our deer farm watching the Quigly Downunder movie. We had a VCR tape player & they recorded it, and watched it over and over for years until eventually the vcr tape just wore out. It was like a cult movie in our house, with all 3 kids. The eldest lad has 11 Rifles & shotguns now that he’s grown, with 3 lads of his own. They are all taught respect and safety around firearms from a very young age. Always wanted to buy a Shilo Sharpes Quigly rifle in .45/110, but never could afford one. Had a Marlin lever gun in .45/70 US Govt & that kicked like a mule, so I imagine a .45/110 would be doubly so. Convincing our Police Firearms licensing branch to allow us to own and use one would probably be a beaurecratic nightmare, but might be possible. Justification might be “shooting Asiatic water buffalo” perhaps. Perhaps the Quigly shoot should actually be held here downunder some time (if Covid vaccine ever allows international travel again any time soon). The legalities red tape would be enormous. At the very least, maybe the US shoot should have a downunder contingent come to compete, it’s only half a planet away after all. 🇦🇺👍👍👍

He goes back to pick up the ammo belt and knife and starts to leave her because he's at the end of his rope. He then realizes he couldn't live with himself if he left her and she died. Goes back and picks her up and along with her and all his equipment trudges till the end of his strength. Tom did such a good job at that scene that I was exhausted watching it. I was able to meet Mr Selleck when he was making a scene in a building a friend of mine owned. It was in a TV movie Rubi Jean and Joe. He was a barrel of laughs. He would walk around apparently farting in front of all of us. He couldn't stand it anymore and told us he was put up to it as he pulled a fart noise machine from his pocket. @James Davis I believe that was the sole purpose of those guns at that time. They were designed to kill buffalo and large game. The modern auto loader just means that you get more than one chance if you miss the first time.

Actually, communist regimes have killed millions of people with the simple signature on a piece of paper. The simple fact is that more people are killed every year with automobiles than with firearms, but automobiles are not being threatened to be outlawed like firearms have been.

Wonderful fun, ( husband speaking ) I was in the Air Force & stationed at Larson AFB, Moses Lake, Wash. a SAC base. I was on the rifle team and one match at Monroe, Wash. 1965, shooting the M-1 GRAND iron sights at 1000 yards, the target was 4 feet wide. One of my favorite matches.

My father and I travel 1000mi every June to this town either the week before or week after the Quigley event to shoot prairie dogs in that area. The Quigley range is impressive to see and it's absolutely beautiful country to visit. I will have to see about shooting in this event some day and spend a week before or after with my other passion there. Good to see people involving their families in this sport. It truly is an American legacy.

Not knocking your comment..but think 400 grains be a bit overkill for a whitetail. But then again..pick em off at 1000 be ok competition.

Everyone between the ages of 18 and 45 and ONLY if they belong to an organized and well-trained militia… You DID actually read the Second Amendment, yes?
@thomaszaccone39603 жыл бұрын
@@NorthernChev Apparently you DID NOT read the Second Amendment. There is NOTHING to qualify the right to keep and bear arms AND THAT GOES FOR AGE ALSO. The "militia" as the Founding Fathers understood it, was constituted of all free men capable of bearing arms PERIOD. The right and responsibility to bear arms and be familiar with their use goes back in English History to the Anglo Saxon Fyrd and the concept in Germanic society of a NATION in arms rather than the Roman Profesional Army concept. Originally even Greek and Roman societies expected all citizens capable of bearing arms to serve in some capacity in the army. FURTHER, if you know anything about basic English language structure, the militia clause in the Second Amendment EXPLAINS THE "WHY" but in no sense limits the right to keep and bear arms. AND, if you were familiar with the writings of the Founding Fathers who created the document, THEY clearly viewed the right to keep and bear arms by the citizens as the inalienable right of all free men.
@NorthernChev3 жыл бұрын
@@thomaszaccone3960 Incorrect. The definition of 'militia' as per the United States government in the Militia Act of 1862 requires that members MUST be of ages between 18 and 45 to qualify. You don't just yammer, yammer, yammer and repeat things you've heard others say. You must break down the entire Amendment by definition as per the enacted laws of the US. And, therefore the Second Amendment, which REQUIRES you to be a member of a well-regulated militia to equip and bear arms restricts that right to men between the ages of 18 and 45. ...next. EDIT: Unless, of course, you're NOT interpreting it STICTLY, as you should be.
@thomaszaccone39603 жыл бұрын
@@NorthernChev You are speaking of the ORGANIZED militia. In the sense of the Founding Fathers, the ORIGINAL REFERENCE concerns the unorganized militia. Further, as I pointed OUT, the Militia is mentioned in the Second Amendment as a reason. It in no way restricts the right. The Militia Act did not amend the Constitution I believe in ORGINIAL INTENT and the Founding Fathers clearly intended for all free men to be ARMED.
@NorthernChev3 жыл бұрын
@@thomaszaccone3960 It is true that the Militia Act did not amend the Constitution. But it, along with, 10 USC Ch. 12: THE MILITIA §246, DEFINES, without question, exactly how the Constitution elucidates the judicial meaning of the word, "militia". So, "Intent" all you want, but the letter of the Law is how it is defined. EDIT: I am aware that the 2A crazies bend the Law to make it fit their politics, but they are wrong, when interpreted strictly.

If you respect & maintain your weapon, have a healthy competitive nature you will enjoy a good shoot, at a target or hunting game. Curious if anyone has actually pulled off a "true" Quigley shot - standing, holding up a 36" barreled heavy rifle, at a distance guessed to be 600-800 yards. Or the 6 holes at 900 yards target shoot. Not trying to diminish any of the shooters talent by any means - just curious.
