Why does everybody use the wrong Value scale nowadays? It gets confusing because in physics 10 would be white and one would be black

I realize the comment is a year old, but could you explain why white would be 10 in physics?

@@spartan3460 as to “why” it’s used this way in the physics world with 10 being white and 1 being black I do not know. My art teacher, who was knighted by the French in 2007 for preservation of art history and traditions, a master in arts, and is also a physicist. The tonal value scale we use is opposite from what this tutorial is using. He speaks often of the fact that we really should be using the same scale as the scale used in physics as this is the scientific standard.
