As Todd says thats the straw that broke the camels back, cause he wanted to draw the sword stabbing juggernaut in the eye but marvel said it was too much so todd quit and went to start image

Todd is my favorite artist of all time. He is the reason I started drawing! My brother and I would go to our local comic shop when we were younger, and each pick out a Spawn book. When we would get home, we would draw our favorite picture from that book.

I can remember going to a Comic Store in the 80's and picking up ASM #297. And, the Owner lightly made fun of my purchase. Because, despite ASM #293 and 294 Kraven's Last Hunt. The book was on the decline. So, when I returned the next month and picked to up ASM #298 and all the months that followed through McFarlane's legendary run on ASM. I felt redeemed each time I returned to the counter to purchase my ASM's.

I have always held that ASM 299 is the first appearance. He has a full page appearance and his name in large print at the bottom of the page.
@Robert-nu4vc Жыл бұрын
I agree. ASM 299 is Venom's first appearance. They can call it a cameo, but it's the first time that Venom appears. It is what it is. ASM 300 is his second appearance.

Todd Interviews always fun. Remember buying the original image books as they were released. Funny to think years later it was just because they wanted to do comic books their way. Todd's letters pages were always great... could you get away with that today?!

ASM 300 is just too perfect, with the iconic cover, it being a huge anniversary issue, AND it being near the time Venom made his 1st full appearance (IMO 299). People just kind of smashed all those things together to turn it into a super key, and it works.

Todd is such a genuine guy. My favorite thing about the Toddfather was meeting him for a signing at my lcs. He signed my Spawn 1 and really kind in conversation for minute even though there were two lines both around the block. Todd still took the time to say hi and thank everyone in line for being there before the signing. Just a great memory.
