I actually bought all these back in the day hoping they would gain value! Thanks boys, you may have just helped me. :) P.S. I actually kinda like this style a bit more now than his later stuff.

Flashback! I collected Todd from the beginning because he was from my city, Calgary. Meet him a couple of times while he hung out pencilling pages at Another Dimension comics.

You hit the Starlin influence on the nose. You could easily drop those mowhawk bird panels into the Epic era of Dreadstar.

Incredible work! I've always loved his layouts and design sense, but there was some really awesome inventive stuff happening in these issues. I'm inspired! So surprised I've never seen these showcased before. Good job, guys!

Hey guys I’m a graffiti writer from Brooklyn nyc, I’ve been a graffiti artist since 1987. If y’all need any street art for any of your panels it would be an honor. Cheers, Roy Orbit

Since '87...WOW... Keep it up as long as possible brother. Make a trip to NC and tag this place to hell man....this place is dead. So dead, in fact, I'm thinking of getting off my dead ass and doing something about it but damn I'm 50yrs old. Do i even have time to get in my 10,000hrs? LoL I've always loved what graffiti artist do so keep up the good work and I thank you for it and the struggle.

@@landyalmond7742 thank you my brother I’ll have to make a trip out there and scout some legal walls , I’ve always hoped for an opportunity to contribute a burner on a page of a comic book that I love. Cheers !

I think it's pretty awesome seeing that Spawn was clearly the outcome of years of built up concepts and ideas Todd was wanting to put out there and clearly these are ideas he went back to time and again and tried out in different ways before bringing it all together in Spawn. I do that a lot in my own personal work ("fine art").... there are bits and pieces of ideas I go back to and try out in different ways over the years until eventually they coalesce into the thing they were meant to be all along.

I was all over these when they came out - my favorite book. Loved those layouts but man, you let Tony DeZuniga off the hook easy. Those overbearing inks - especially the cheek bones and teeth on everyone almost kill it for me
@russworks2882

Comparing this to the earlier Scorpio Rose art, Dezuniga's inks suck all of the juice out of the pencils. I don't totally get why they did this sort of thing. Same issue with the Thomas written Arak: Tony Dezuniga inks absolutely sterilizing Ernie Colon's distinctive, energetic pencils. It's as if non-artist editors looked at comics like a math problem that only had one answer.

Man I remember DC replacing Ordway ultimately with McFarlane (there was someone in between for a few issues). McFarlane fucking blew me away with his capes and way he approach panel layouts. Loved it.

I used to read All-Star Squadron and I remember when Infinity Inc. popped up in there. I thought they looked really generic and it was easy to pass on their book.

If you gents are going back this far, you might as well do a video on his first published work in Coyote #11 in 1985.
