While I understand Todd’s point about needing a break I agree with Jodie that his needing a break is self inflicted. He made the choice to pull away & focus more on work etc. And the byproduct of him pulling away is leading to his frustrations which he’s taking out on Kandi because she’s the one closest to him. The key to all of this is needing BALANCE. Too much of one thing is never good. Focusing more on work is great but take breaks as needed so you’re not taking it out on your loved ones & being mean. In regards to coming in at 4am/5am while out solo for a married is not acceptable. I think Todd sees it as a control thing & him having a “curfew” which is where ego comes into play but it’s actually a respect thing for your wife.

My mom loved being with my dad whenever he was home and when he retired she wanted to be with him 24/7 but my dad liked his space to go jogging or visit his brothers etc. My mom would get upset since she’s very loving and can’t understand this. I also love my space from my family and can’t stay home more than a couple of days in a row without going out to run errands, walk go to the coffee shop or anything. If I don’t I get argumentative because I feel like I need some fresh air and exercise and to be on my own. Todd is merely saying that he (& other men) need time to refuel with self or guy time, where he’s not playing a husband or support role and can just be Todd. Unfortunately, Todd presented his need to kick it and bond with his boys as something he needs as a result of time with his wife and family. They are not necessarily the catalyst for the desired guy time, it’s simply a desire. The terms “need a break” and “shake it off” (it’s given The Pass) implies he is having a personal issue or building resentment towards Kandi. Going out with his friends or appropriately hanging out with his friends doesn’t need to be a big production! The way Todd communicates creates unnecessary conflict; it is what one says and how they say it that leads to an argument. Being aggressive or passive aggressive aren’t healthy forms of communication. Talking about being out to 4 and 5 AM, trying to control the conversation, or cutting the camera off on that note are major red flags. Recharge Time is important. And sometimes getting fresh perspective from the people you aren’t around all the time, it’s refreshing. Also, the quality of the time is important, especially when time is limited. You want things that are going to bring life. There’s a difference between hanging with your friends at work or while working, versus that separate refresh time. Language is important: there’s a difference between saying “I need a break” after snapping at someone versus “I’m stressed, I’m taking it out on you, let me go destress or manage that.” Because even though from one perspective you’re saying the same thing, the person who received that snap back is experiencing the emotion of “what did I do?” So, they’re but hearing the “it’s me” part. If you take out the fears of infidelity part (which I don’t get the vibe y’all worry about, but the average person probably does…we’ll at least in the Bible belt), I’m going to be worried about my partners safety, I’m going to be worried about their well being and I’m likely not happy when they’re dragging their feet the next day because they’re hung over. Versus, if I’m with them, I see how they’re doing, I’m more likely to see the potential dangers. So, every once in a while…it’s no biggie… all the time, you’re unaware of how much I’m carrying you in my heart when you do that… and I’d feel disrespected. But that’s just my two cents. Everything I thought he was tryna say he wanted, he already has the freedom to do so I was confused bcuz I thought he couldn’t go anywhere or do anything but he can, he just hasn’t, which isn’t her fault. And she was actually listening and trying to understand him. I think marriage counseling would help them communicate better

I understand what you’re saying Todd. If the ladies put their defenses down and really listen then they too would understand. No matter how much you love and get along with your loved ones, sometimes you need some “me” time…some time apart. Just a moment to regroup some. That’s not to say that the other person is doing anything wrong. It’s abt self. I applaud you for acknowledging that you were snappy and realizing you need a moment to clear your mind.

It’s not even a break, it’s simply a fulfilling life with multiple types of relationships. Kandi was also saying that the time she’s spending in glam is not fulfilling her need for girl time with her friends. It’s another part of work. I pray y’all learn to hear the heart of one another.

THAT'S SO TRUE!! He needs time alone with his buddies, but he must apologize once its pointed out that hes snapping at her..... Ive been married for 18 yrs n been with hubby for 23 yrs! We dont do well if we are in each other faces for even 2 wks straight!! He dont like go out, but he wld watch certain shows in a different part of the house or will go in get a haircut or visit the hardware store!! Thats healthy....periodt!

It's a blessing to be able to be around your partner as much as you can, yet each of you should have time to yourselves. Making a great couple is two individuals. If you're only living, working, and socializing as a couple, it doesn't allow time for individual growth. I typically don't agree with Todd (love him though)... this one I totally agree!!

Todd, I completely understand what you’re saying. We all still need our time to be individuals, outside and inside of our relationships. Hence the saying, “self-care” is the best care. Self-care for Todd is being social with his friends. Because he hasn’t had that balance or that time with his friends… he’s been on edge or snappy. This is reallyyyy simple logic. We as ladies have to strip trying to listen through our emotions, and listen with our logic. This convo should not be a whole thing or be about “well why do you need space from me”. That is not at all what he is saying. He broke it down as simple, and as many times as he could… and it still remained about Kandi and “why do you need space from me”. This is why men suffer in silence… we do not listen to understand!!! Tae, you as a person who needs and values your self-care aka your alone time, made it really difficult for me to understand how YOU weren’t able to understand what he was saying. He didn’t have a dog in this fight.

Kandi has worked in other cities, my city Chicago being one of them. I'm sure Todd can have the breaks he wants while she is working, and I remember a time on the show when he was claiming Kandi didn't spend enough time with him. So what is it Todd? Kandi is damned if she do or damned if she don't. Kandi should just let Todd have as many breaks as he wants and she should do the same. 🆗 😊
