American Film Institute left East of Eden off the list of the 100 best American films of all time. In regard only appear Giant and Rebel Without a Cause. The same happens in other relationships with less prestige but which serve as a reference for many moviegoers as The 1000 movies you must see before you die. I think these selections do not correspond to reality or to think that the general public. East of Eden is the best of the three films and also the best work of James Dean. The actor has worked on over 30 productions on TV and also starred on Broadway, but was in the role of Caleb Trask Dean became a star. His interpretation provocative, innovative and visceral, thanks in part to the text and the direction of Elia Kazan, was a milestone in the history of cinema.

You nailed it - have to remember Dean was only 24 when he died. Most of us have our head in our ass at that age. Lew was a good friend of Jimmy's and not part of Hollywood business crowd, Just too guys who loved life and racing cars. Lew is the last of Jimmy’s friends still living. Pure opinion and speculation, JD was desperate for father approval and that’s why he was picked for this movie? He was an actor, he may or may not have had relationship problems with his father. I think James Dean was an actor with normal interest. Not everyone is so complicated as these people seem to think and if they are these people would not know.
@blueberrycobbler5 жыл бұрын
John Hendrix Exactly...there is too much of an effort by others to conjure up a mystique that simply isn’t there.
@sharonzimmerman55585 жыл бұрын
It is pretty obvious from legitimate Dean biographies that he did suffer from some sort of mental illness. Popular consensus is that if alive today, he would've been diagnosed as bipolar. But, that certainly doesn't mean his father was a " monster " and all the other nonsense. He grew up surrounded by much love from his family. Perhaps his relationship with his father wasn't perfect, but it sounds no different from other " troubled " relationships teens have with their parents at that age. It certainly doesn't means father and son didn't love each other. I believe Marcus, too.
@kevinshaughnessy49626 жыл бұрын
James Dean allegedly antagonized Raymond Massey to built a conflict against the father/son relationship. Not mentioning that Massey was difficult to begin with. Massey came from great family wealth. As part of the Massey Tractor Co of Canada. He looked down on people.
@SM-gl8yo5 жыл бұрын
Raymond Massey starred in a 1957 Alfred Hitchcock Presents with a very young Richard Chamberlain. Mr. Massey specifically approved Mr. Chamberlain's casting some years later for Dr. Kildare, a kindness Mr. Chamberlain never forgot. If Mr. Dean consistently changed the lines on Mr. Massey and throwing him off balance, it makes sense Mr. Massey would have grown upset with him.
