Bassmaster Open Lake Lewisville (The Grind Day 1 and 2)

By far the hardest event of the year for many reasons. Put that many anglers on that small of a body of water that does not fish that good anyway, this is the product you get. The one good thing about this video and the "series" I'm putting together is that from practice to the tournament, then the "JUICE" video I will do after shows how everything can change, how to adjust with weather, and how you have to have a game plan when fishing these events. Hopefully after watching this you can see what I tried to do and how I tried to change regardless of the outcome.

Cara Swimbait rod. Its now called the Cara 7'3 XH. Don't get caught up on the XH, I never pay attention to those letters. I have caught every spinner bait fish on that rod for the last 5 years. I can't remember losing one. Check out my BFL video from January where I made a top 10. All my fish at Grand on the FLW tour, all of them, its my favorite rod by far.

Love your content. Curious and I feel like I’m due to ask you an off the wall question. On your C-rig it looked to be about 3.5 feet between the weight and bait. Is that a standard length for you year round? Or does the length change based on water temp, clarity, lake or any other factors?

No its not that long, I've done a c-rig video before but I might do another one based off of this lake and Lay. Don't want to give anything away about Lay just yet, but it should coincide perfect.

Thanks, I finished in the top 10 before, made it in 2009, I hadn't tried in 4 or 5 years. I seem to do way better in the Costas but they seem to go to better lakes. I'm just not as good when we go to these finesse type of fisheries when it takes 10 pounds to do good. I like the big weight tournaments.

Well it all depends I’ve turned down sponsors in the past because if I don’t think I can help them I don’t want help from them. I want it to be beneficial for both sides. Most of my sponsors tend to be very good relationships that carry over past the fishing industry. That comes with trust and an ability to help each other grow that’s on my end as well as there’s. I’m always interested let me know what your thoughts are I’m all ears. I usually have some good ideas myself.

Yea I should have stayed with it all day, I did more on day 2. Day 1 was where it was at, just hard when I never caught one on it all practice because of the weather. Hard to abandon everything in the first hour without checking things. The south end did not show out for anyone. Crazy.

So you saw that too. Yea it looked bad when I watched it back about where the fish jumped but I gotta be honest Co's are usually one way or another. I've always said the best guys are the guys that never look up and never pay attention to what your doing, they do their thing. My guy on day 1 of Lay caught them good and he never came close he did his thing and caught his fish and did good.

The fish that was caught at the end ....it almost looks like a cast wouldve almost had to have been made right over your head...im exagerating a bit haha......it just looked like to me unwritten or maybe even written rules were being pushed a bit

Yes it happens all the time on the bigger tour like FLW when we had cos there was a better understanding of what is expected. None of this is going on in the opens, some guys get it others don’t they then leave it up to us which is all interpretive. Recipe for disaster.

Caught one fish all day not much to talk about. I caught 4 fish total in 2 days and beat half the field no one had anything good to say besides the winner probably. Gotta remember this is a 14 minute video of 16 hours of fishing I just didn't put the conversations in this one. It was blowing bad and hard to hear anything anyways. These videos sometimes don't capture everything, I still do them because I want to show ya'll the adjustments later in my next video the "JUICE"

9-5??? Im confused, i looked at basstrakk and leaderboard Thursday said you had around 11lbs, couple spots under b.latimer. friday said you had around 13lbs giving you 24+lbs. Is basstrakk off or they had your name mixed up with someone else.

On Lewisville? That weight would have been accurate for Lay, however I didn't do basstrakk for either event. Its optional for the angler to do but I never do it cause I don't want to waste time EVER.

Lake Lewisville generally just sucks, you can catch good flipping or throwing a moving bait around wood. Takes about 16-17 to win the high-school tournements but the lake must have fished even tougher because not many limits were caught.

Oh I know I've been there a couple of times, actually came in second in a TxTT. It was in June and was fishing much better, plus we had an off limits which helps come tournament time.
