What a refreshing presentation. Very respectful of the audience and with a sense that you are using KZbin as opposed to KZbin using you.

Great and useful review. Once more very objective, practical and relevant. Just an update note Aputure MC Pro has 4x plus light thus similar to Andycine I assume. But at this time in Amazon Aputure MC Pro is sold about 200 while Andycine about 60... Thanks for this excellent review!!!

Another terrific, very useful review. I also think that one should take into consideration the Company when purchasing a product. Aputure Is a highly respected company, known for innovative products, they have been around for a while, while Andycine is a little less known. That doesn't mean their products are not as good as Aputure, but in the past I have found that products from well-established companies have a much higher level of support and overall quality than newer companies with less recognition. Just something to consider....having said that, I'm going to pick up an Andycine! LOL......

The extra features of the Aputure MC along with the carrying case, defuser, and more versatile mounting with the magnets makes the slightly higher cost worth it. IMO

Thanks for the comparison and review! I like the MC but was surprised to learn just how much raw output you can get for $70 with the Andycine! A small correction: the MC will run just over 2 hours at 100%, according to both Aputure and real-life testing. Also - does the Andycine feature any type of lighting FX at all? If not - perhaps it was worth mentioning in the 1v1 comparison (I personally often find them useful). Another thing worth mentioning, perhaps is - multiple MCs can be linked and controlled at once from the app, as well as put into sequences and interact (like in a chase sequence between multiple lights, for example). There are other functions as well. What the MC lacks in output - it makes up for in smart controls and precision, a point which I think was downplayed a little in this case.

Todd, nice review, but one question: How does a diffuser soften the light when the face of the diffuser isn't significantly larger than the light, itself? I understand about scattering light, which the diffuser certainly does, but unless there are highly reflective walls in very close proximity, no scattered light is bouncing back to the subject to actually soften the light source. In fact, during your explanation, your walls appear black, so would never be bouncing any light back into the scene.
@dominey4 жыл бұрын
Good question. The diffuser on the Aputure isn't the same as a large softbox. It basically just turns the pocket LED into a glowing orb. The individual LED lights blend together to form a single light source instead of a panel made up of many small LED lights, if that makes sense.
@ericdelmar26184 жыл бұрын
@@dominey Great answer. Btw, I picked up 4 MCs, based on your review and others. I'm mostly using them for Zoom meetings at the moment (sigh), but did do a portrait session the other night, and they worked flawlessly for some edgy fill and put a nice sparkle in the subject's eyes.

I enjoyed your video, however one thing occurred to me while watching. when you rated the battery life, presumably that was at full power. This would imply the Andycine light would last longer than 140 minutes at an output equal to the MC light. That may be useful for someone to know, particularly on set!
@IOSam4 жыл бұрын
Although the Sidus Link is supposedly available for both iOS and Android, it is important to note that while it does work flawlessly on iOS, it does not on Android in my experience (it works with some phone models, but not others --where the App does not detect the light via Bluetooth). So, while the App is a major decision factor for the Aputure light, it might not work for you depending on your phone model and OS.

Old masters along with Rembrandt - developed the technique of Chiaroscuro. Painting with light as you illustrated; prominent key light, and a shadowed fill, etc. Rule of “inverse square law,” pertains to lumens and distance from subject. The Apurture MC is an RGB WW. Both daylight white and tungsten white. Not sure about AndyR-1? Good tips about using the lights! Thanks.

i don't really have the need for a RGB light right now, but i'd like to stream on twitch some day and use one ( thinking of Aperture MC) to light up my face cam scene ^^
@mgr55503 жыл бұрын
Tell me one thing. Why is it that if you use 2 lights and fire them together you never get a double brightness look. Technically its double the photons firing. But many pros say that doubling 2 lights next to each other will never give you double the light intensity. Why so ? They say to get a brighter light with double the wattage rather than using 2 lights of half that wattage. Ex 2x 60w leds will not be as bright as a single 120w led. Is this true and why so ?

Great video! How would you characterize the Anycine's light? Would you say its soft enough to just turn on or would you need to soften the light at all? Also, could it be a key light for an interview at full power?
@dominey4 жыл бұрын
Hi Frederick - just saw this. If you use the Andycine light on a person, I would recommend diffusing it somehow. It's okay without diffusion, but a bit harsher than the Aputure with its diffuser attacked. Otherwise, for backgrounds or practicals, the Andycine is fine w/o a diffuser.

That was another really helpful video. I really might add a rgb light to my setup. I have a question though: I started my video setup (mainly taking head) with a Neewer 660 Bi-Colour combo. I am starting to get the feeling, that I should have started with a softbox... I just got a cheap reflector with the intention of diffusing my rather hard LED light. Do you think this will work?
