Tecsun PL-330 Shortwave Radio & C.Crane Twin Coil Evening MW

The Legendary Tecsun PL-330 AM FM LW Shortwave SSB Portable Radio is Paired with the 200mm C.Crane Twin Coil Ferrite Antenna System. The Radio has a setting to convert its FM/SW external jack to Accommodate Medium Wave Antennas. Press and Hold the Number 3 Button while the Radio is On, and set to the MW band. CH-5 should appear. This disengages the internal antenna. Do the process again, and CH-A should appear. Now it is back to normal operation.
Is it worth it to get the Twin Coil, and a PL-330? Yes! If you are a fan of MW, and have some Money to Spend, by all means. These make a most Excellent Pairing. Pulling in Distant Evening Stations with Ease, and logging a New Station during this video!

Overall, if you are on a budget, just pick up the Tecsun PL-330, and have a ball. It is decent on its own, but Shines Ever Bright when used with External Antennas :)

Every time I use my PL-330, I'm impressed by the sheer amount of electronic technology stuffed into that tiny, black case! When folks see/hear it for the first time; Their invariably asking; "How can I get one?" If your my age (approaching your 8th decade on Earth) you likely recall how really HUGE a multi-band receiver used to be. My Grandfather had one the size of a small Refrigerator. Honestly, four feet high, three wide and about 20 inches deep! To have a much better Receiver small enough to fit in a vest pocket was once inconceivable! ENJOY !

Hej I agree with you Tecsun PL-330 is a little black jewel that can handle so much despite its size and certainly a lot of technology things like radio devices were of a larger size back in the day take care and have a lovely day.

Your grandfather had dozzrns of extremely interesting stations in English language to choose from and hear news that it would be nearly impossible otherwise to hear, plus the hearing of radio amateur bands was the hearing of gentlemen. You on the other hand you have only a few stations left to hear and nothing that Internet can't give you. The radio amateur bands nowadays is...... Well......let's say the creme of the creme of human education! 😏😖🤮.

This receiver has a nice clean signal when connected directly to an external loop on strong signals at night...better than my EP PRO indoors. It may be because of differences in the circuitry but I get a quieter noise floor with a loop at night with the 330 than the stock antenna in my EP PRO. I plan to take all my best AM receivers and the 330 to a rural area in the woods away from RFI to check this one night. I had doubts at first about the 330 but immediately fell in love with it.

I enjoy my PL330 and am amazed at it's performance. Re: that 640 khz check, in my DXing youth south of Chicago, KFI Los Angeles could be pulled in. Not now.

I do wish Tecsun would do away with the PL5c battery and just go with an 18650. I would love to see a comparison between that C-Crane antenna vs a Tecsun AN-200. Where I live the there is a B.I.N. station on 1340, and it's a very strong station, so strong it can kill reception from other stations even on the other side of the band, it's the bane of my existence when I'm trying to scan the MW band, especially in the evening.

The Crane antenna featured here also comes with an antenna rod you can place next to any radio and an wire for plugging into a radio with the correct adapter. I used mine with this exact radio using the rod. The internal mw antenna in the Pl-330 is above the speaker so that's where you place the rod.

Thank you so much for your reviews! I've purchased several Sangean and Tecsun radios because of your recommendations! I recently purchased this radio from Kaito through Amazon. It had the 3306 firmware but has an issue with the volume getting louder when you turn the knob in the "lower" direction. The tuning and volume knobs are also extremely loose. I did a reset (battery pull) and the volume problem was still there. I know you have an earlier version, but is that one of the problems you are having and has anyone experienced this? Thank you and love your videos!!!

Did you contact Kaito, perhaps they will exchange the radio. I just bought one from them on eBay. 3306 firmware no volume knob issues, except they are just a little looser turning than I'd like. I use the lock button to lock them once I'm tuned in.

@@brendanb1541 I ended up getting a replacement radio and it doesn't have the problem. The knobs are also much, much tighter. The previous radio knobs would spin if the were lightly touched which may have been causing the problem. Thanks for your reply!

Hej again Todderbert excuse me if I write a bit much now or disturb you, but have you seen the new Eaton Elite Satellit HD? Wow what a radio but it costs a boatload of money $699.99 my god that's a big price tag for a radio. I am interested in buying this radio but my pockets are not deep enough right now yes this radio hobby can drive me crazy sometimes and also the I have looked at the ETON E1, a very nice receiver according to those who have it. But I thought when I bought the Tecsun H-501X that it was a lot of money but I don't regret it it's a nice radio yes, we'll see, but right now I'm content with buying cheaper radio devices and so keen to buy new Prunus J-125 i was close today but thought best to wait and hear what the radio pro from Chicago thinks. Otherwise it's fine with me drinking coffee late surfing the net checking radio units to buy and the Sangean SR-35 in white color is in Holland so it will arrive soon and hope the Pansonic RF-2400D arriving this week and the radio companion tonight is the lovely little white Prunus J-777 take care.

@@todderbert Hej Todderbert you are absolutely right too much money for this radio so we'll see when the price drops and how good it is if it is worth the price but it seems very nice and I'm definitely keeping an eye on it. Yes that's how it is with our radio hobby it can be expensive sometimes but cheap too I have bought very good radio devices which does not cost too much that are very good thanks to you Todderbert. I am now looking at very small micro radios like Retekess TR-107, Prunus J-982, Prunus J-985 which I am thinking of buying i do not own such small pocket radio take care Todderbert.

Yes you should be able to get European or Asian shortwave stations. You will need an external antenna like a long wire or a loop antenna like the MLA 30+.
