You pointing our the awareness piece as the main difference between the two concepts was very helpful and made the distinction clear. Thank you for the video! And thanks to the subscriber asking about this as it is very easily confused with.

I'm thankful that you pointed out the awareness piece this! Once that was explained, I gained a better understanding of the differences between False Consensus Effect and Projection.

I appreciate that you emphasize awareness as a distinction between projection and the false consensus effect. It is interesting to hear about the factors that influence false consensus. Recently my family was discussing the use of algorithms with social media. Also, it is interesting how false consensus and perceived uniqueness are counter-intuitive.

I haven't thought of this subject, and this video provided very clear and understandable information about false consensus effect and projection..

Projection only exists when someone is being called out for their bad behavior and/or selfish tendencies. They'll use "projection" as an excuse to redirect a conversation's focus away from their actions and back onto you. Sometimes people might project previous bad experiences onto others.

Projection a person is assuming people are thinking the thoughts they are. False Consensus Effect is the belief everyone is the same.

I think I got it! With the false consensus effect an individual can acknowledge the fact that something exists in them that exists in others. With projection individuals see things in others that they can't see in themselves

Sounds right to me! That is what I understood as the difference between the two.

I wonder if there is such a thing to where you think you will do what other people do. For whatever reason I attribute others actions to myself. For instance my best friend was talking about another girl who used to be her friend, telling me what she does that is negative. I ask do I do that? and my best friend replies no I'm not talking about you I'm talking about her. You two are totally different people, why would you think that? I have done that on numerous occasions. I don't want to be doing those bad things that other do, and I realize that I am not them, but I still can't help but think, do I do that too? when someone is talking about the negative things another has done.
