I was in a situation where I was spending a lot of time with a younger woman who was extremely attractive. Eventually I started to have feelings for her but it became clear that she didn't feel the same about me. Soon after I told her that I didn't think it was a good idea for us to be spending that much time together anymore. She asked me why and I told her that being around her all the time while having to remain just friends wasn't going to work for me. In a situation like that you're better off accepting it and then move on to something else.

I also remember having issues in regard to men I'd moved in with when I was younger, even though other people often stayed and visited. I did know them, yet obviously not well enough! I had no idea that they found me attractive at all, as I've never been beautiful, until things happened to show that it was the case. I ended up moving out because they both turned on me. I had huge issues with male neighbours as well and wasn't even friendly to a couple of the extreme ones. I won't go into detail about all that, except to mention that one ended up in jail for the night, then was evicted from his flat and had to go to court. I've had issues with other men in that area, hence why I'm learning to not be as friendly, or to have male friends, just to be on the safe side. It's much less likely to happen at my age though. 🙁

It is a common mistake when we fail to act on the clear & present danger. My intuition told me that I was in danger in 2019. I ignored and paid the consequences. Since then, I started carrying a notebook, listening attentively to the inner voice and observing my surroundings. When a male friend asked me to visit his apartment, I ignored his invitation. When he followed me on my Instagram, I did not follow back. An 85 years old woman would stop by my house and hug me. I discovered by accident that I don't share her values. I knew I had to keep a distance. So I avoid any encounter. Listening to my inner voices and acting on them religiously is difficult. It taxes your energy but it potentially saves lives.

Not blaming her for her own murder, but not wise to take a male roommate when she was the only person in the house, particularly an older lonely guy she didn't know well and not wise to go on trips with him. The fact that she stands so close to him in pictures shows that she was perhaps sending some mixed signals or ones he just couldn't interpret correctly due to his own issues with women. Perhaps the attention he gave her flattered her early on or she thought it would be nice to be around when she agreed to rent to him? I agree with another commenter that she seemed naive; she doesn't look like she's really that young either... I've learned unfortunately as I've gotten older not to only "look for the best in people", you've got to protect yourself. I get the needing a roommate thing due to unforeseen circumstances but she probably should've interviewed more of them and probably had a woman move in instead, in the end it cost her her life, very tragic..

I honestly don’t believe single men can have a woman friend they spend a lot of time with and not get some kind of attraction to them. At least not that I’ve ever personally experienced or seen. I’m sure there are exclusions to the rule but I would say that’s the usual case. Especially roommates. Loneliness is a real problem for many, and even women get serious crushes on men that are just friends.
@koningklootzak7788 Жыл бұрын
That depends on how sexually attractive or not the woman is. It's easier for unattractive girls to make male friends without romantic feelings. It's also true Good looking girls fall victims of crimes of passion more often than ugly ones.
@HeatherHolt Жыл бұрын
@@koningklootzak7788 you make solid points. But I think even say a 4 or 5 could have issues with a male roommate or close friend if he was lonely enough and didn’t have any other women in his life. I used to think I could have just close guy friends but every single one of them at some point either professed their love or made a move, even after I would consistently say things like “I’m so glad we can be just friends and it not get weird” or “hey I have a friend I think you’d be great with” or “wow I’m so glad I’m single and I plan on staying this way for a very long time”. I don’t know a single female who has successfully maintained a close relationship with a male and it not get weird at some point. And vice versa for guys i know. Anecdotal, of course, and not trying to be sexist. But men are more sexual creatures and dominating than women, typically, and sometimes that side wins out over logical thinking and friendly lines. The whole anger over being “friend-zoned” stems from this very argument, I believe. But yeah I’d totally agree with you that the more attractive the woman, the less success she would have with male friends simply remaining friends. You really do have to be very careful when allowing someone in your home. The person can be very easy to get along with as long as they are not facing eviction. I had 2 boyfriends, from the past, who turned into stalking troublemakers after I had to get the police + courts make them move. It's sad because I really thought that they were amazing friends until I evicted them. It was then that the harassment started + it doubled once I met a new guy + started dating. One threatened to burn my house down + the other threatened to kill me. Thank God for getting me through all that. Another thing is they won't physically hurt you but will hurt or kill your cat or dog - or smash up your place. Things that you love are in danger. Please stay safe out there! Jane Moncton Smith wrote an amazing book on the danger signs in a relationship that will predict partner's danger signs.

I rented a room in another woman's home through Craigslist for a month. She was ok with me having multiple cats (!!!) with me in the room. Because it was a complete stranger, I told the cats, as long as we get out of this alive, it will be a success. At one point, after a variety of less than ideal encounters, the roomate became so angry over something, I thought, "This kind of enraged face may be the last thing you see before you get killed." Somehow a friend let me (and the cats) stay with them for the remaining week I was supposed to he there. I had always vowed that I would not stick around if I thought someone's anger might put me in danger.

I also think so. They probably slept together a few times especially while they were going on vacations together. But the guy wanted a serious relationship with her. He probably even paid for the vacation trips.
@redbaron932 Жыл бұрын
@@remhk6672 I doubt they even slept together or that he paid for every thing that said she probably did not make much of a effort to say no to him paying for things, she probably knew that he liked her very earlier on and she did not feel threaten by him so she loved the attention and wanted him to stick around by giving him bread crumbs running a game on him, I have been in a situation myself when I was younger with a so called female friend who I grew up with and to be fair she did tell me she did not like me in that way early on when we first started working together after me doing a forest gump, but in her mind that made me beneath her and so she would try to use me and she would lash out at me and slander me if I stopped giving her enough time or if I did not do or say what she wanted to see or hear, and she would give me confusing signals which made her overall behaviour so unbearable that I ended up leaving the job just to get away from her, also looking back at it now she put herself in some very vulnerable situations with me back then but luckily for both of us I was a nice guy and could control my emotions although only just. If I ran into someone today who knew her and they said she had been raped or killed and that she knew her killer or rapist I would not be surprised at all. not that I wish that on her of course

So weird that some people in the comments assume the male roommate was paying for everything, including the cruise. Why is that the assumption when Dr. G laid out the facts? The lady roommate was a veteran who served 2 tours in Iraq (put some respect on her name, y’all!), was putting herself through school, and had just lost her mom (who was her roommate before the guy!).She needed a new roommate to help with the bills, not some douchey weirdo to outright pay them. Like wtf? This lady veteran paid her dues in many ways, paid her own way in life, and was kind to a maladjusted man with few prospects. It just kills me...Maribel made it through the war and THIS was her end. And her obsessed killer got 15 yrs on the low end. Travesty.

This is an unintended consequence of the lack of affordable housing. The fact that Maria needed to advertise on Craig’s list for a roommate she didn’t even know in order to afford the apartment without her mother there. Most roommate experiences are not this extreme but I’ve heard plenty of negative stories. These are people they would never consider living with under other circumstances. When I was a young nurse in 82/83 pay scales were abysmal. I slept on a pull out couch in a studio apartment before I could consider rooming with a total stranger. Luckily I had a good experience

Wait a minute- She let him move in to live with her, they went on a cruise together and it appears from photos, they were dating. Yet she did NOT want a romantic relationship with him?? What could possibly go wrong in such a scenario? It's unfortunate she put herself in this situation; thinking she could control him (in what appears to be a sadistic manner). Essentially she was an accomplice in her own murder. I dont know what to think: a) Did she have a death wish? b) Was she mentally ill? c) Was she just really, really stupid?

@@duanejackson6718 Malrubius and Cherie have defined love for me. OJ Simpson was disgruntled after Nicole Brown's death that no one recognised 'that I loved that woman'. There are many examples of homicidal offenders saying the same, indicating ''I'm a tragic hero, an Othello.' Its not helpful. to take this at face value.Possessiveness and jealousy might better describe their emotions. These days we say, 'If you really loved someone, you would prefer them to be happy with someone else than unhappy with you.' Love should ideally have an unselfish, noble element.

It's clear they kind of was using each other up to the point that she didn't want to go any further with him. Woman for the most part know when a man is interested in them way before the man ever confesses it. She was obviously liking the attention she was getting. It kept her from being totally lonely and not thinking as much about her mother not being around anymore. He was her soft pillow. A thing a lot of women do. Keeping male orbiters around them they have no intentions of being with. Someone to listen to them, run errands, be their handyman, male bash with about her ex or men she really likes who have rejected her, to protector her, ect. All without being romantically connected. But when those men want to cash in on her male needs. These woman want to bounce off. In this case. The man she wanted to bounce from lived with her and he thought in his beta male mindset that rejection means try harder. And that only makes her like him less. No is no. But not to a person who was not brought up in a stable environment.

"killed herself" was the most bananas defence I've heard. I mean...why dump a body in remote area if suicide is the case? Why report her missing too, as if she was alive? To throw people off? what if they find her? then if it wasn't murder you just look guilty and more suspicious. It makes no sense and is a reach I haven't seen in a while.
