Absolutely stellar, sir - all of your Prophet 10 videos, in fact. The P10 is one of those synths that is deceptively simple in appearance - at first blush you scratch your head and think “Is that all there is?” Then slowly, you start sliding down the rabbit hole into pure bliss. A thousand thank you’s for helping us noobs get started on our journey down that, erm, glorious hole (in retrospect, there was probably a better way to phrase that). Cheers!

I've watched each part several times and now I am really starting to grasp the concepts much better and have been enjoying exploring the sound design capabilities my P10 much more fully (particularly the Poly-Mod Section). Thanks again for all of the time and effort you put into making such an informative series.

Great! Glad it helped! Don’t feel bad if it takes several watches, as it does get complex. Keep plugging at it! 🥊

I love ‘disappearing oscillators’ particularly. Thank you for doing this.

Yeah. It is a quirky gimmick, but actually useful when timed properly! Thanks for watching

Thanks for these videos! I have a prophet 5 and it was really useful to watch your video methodically running through its capabilities. I still use mine very simply so good to see some helpful tricks. One thing I still haven’t mastered is a smart way to use it with ableton recalling or automating things, because I think, as soon as it has more midi automation, it can really go somewhere special!

Glad it helped. Yeah, when it comes to MIDI, I tend to just use the product as a standalone instrument that I track via audio connections. ⚡️

Thanks for watching! I have tons of other synth videos. I'm probably taking a break from the Prophet for now, but am sure I'll do a followup at some point!

I love how you've explained these tutorials in very generalized terms that can apply to many synthesizers. The only Prophets I use are the '08 and the 12. I use a Jupiter-X as well and two other Roland analog polys, but still went through watching these vids to get ideas and refresh my memory on some things I know. It all helps me out to do better at what I'm already good at. And it was also very essential to know the descriptive terms of sound design and features. I just made sounds and noises not really knowing what to properly call what I'm doing 😆 But yeah, excellent videos! I hope you may do tutorials of either a Minimoog Voyager, or Prophet 12! A Prophet-10 is definitely on my list after watching!

Thank you! I'd love to do a series on everything! I'm looking at the OBX8 next. But I do have ones on the SH 101, MS20, Wasp, Model D, ARP Odyssey, and maybe some more, so please check those out too! :)

Excellent tutorial. I’ve been synthing for a while but this was still great for ideas for patches.

Inspiring stuff! Thanks very much for sharing. I need to experiment more with the poly mod on my P5, that's for sure.

Love this P10 series! Is it possible to go over split, stacks, PU2, and unison implementation in the near future?

Thank you for watching. Yeah, that would be a nice followup. I have some other synth stuff in the works for the coming months, but I’ll definitely look into some deep dive content at some point. I just put out a weird one on the OB-X8 paddle box that you might find interesting even if you don’t have that synth. It is quirky!

Could you clarify what's going on with the "stepped filter frequency" effect? I understand that the knob for cutoff is quantized to semitones, and you say that the envelope is going through that quantization, but how do you get a slow smooth envelope modulation on the P5 if this is the case? I've heard conflicting information on whether or not the VCF ENV is quantized or not. I'm also curious if the pedal input for the VCF is fast enough for external FM modulation.
@ToddUrban Жыл бұрын
Hi. Well, first off, this is a super complex patch, but I'll try to explain it better. The Poly Mod section modulates each pitch independently of each other. What is actually happening here is that when a key is played, OSC B's frequency opens and closes the cutoff for each key at different speeds. This is because keyboard tracking is on for OSC B, so the lo freq (LFO) of OSC is treating each key differently. In this case, the cutoff quantization isn't really a factor. That becomes more of a factor when doing slow sweeps of the cutoff frequency. But I'm using a pulse wave at the beginning, so it would even affect the sound. But even when I switch to triangle, the speed of the cutoff modulation is still probably too fast to perceive the quantization. Regarding VCF ENV, I do not believe there is any quantization there. I never tried using the pedal input for this. Actually, I never tried the pedal input for anything but the "sustain". (technically the release and hold) While I think I know a solid amount about the Prophet, I can go the rest of my life and never learn it all. There are always super cool tricks I'm finding out!
