In germany that kind of road would be 2 lane only. 4 lane over here is only for crossings or bigger cities. And the additional speed markings on the road are only for 30km/h over here. Also there wouldn't be fences on the sidewalk. Japan seems very concerned with safety and efficiency. Very interesting.

Did you notice the colors on the street? Recent feature Japan added is red for caution area (slippery, blind curve, etc) and blue for turn lanes. They analyzed and painted throughout the country. We only have green for bike lanes in America. The other colors make a lot of sense.
