You're going to find that going to Taiwan is better.. people are much more friendlier and open to accepting anyone. so safe as well and omg, the food variety is much greater and ask any Japanese from Japan visiting Taiwan, they love it because they feel free and not as superficial "politeness" as forced unto them by Japan's society. Taiwanese go out of their way to help. Ask Japanese for help and they will tell you but they stop there.
