"We lose, we take. We catch, and get caught. We conform, and we make others conform. We do nothing but cycle between these roles. Take what we can and fight not to lose more than we must. But as hard as we fight we will lose it all. The people we love and were loved by will die, and we will all someday be forgotten, no matter what. To live is to be unhappy. It's futile! Even so, as small and grotesque as I am, as short and cruel this life maybe, I still claw forward to search for beauty. Because it's worth it. To keep choosing, and keep being chosen."

Agreed. A lot will see the superficial in it or the posturing but there is elegance in its blatancy. Live! For Today and Tomorrow. Any works that moves you.. honor it and hone it. Fuck what others think, because they are human aswell.. and don’t make their faults ur own; because when my doors close I will never regret the way I CHOSE to live my journey. Pls stay true.

A beautiful track for a beautiful series, sui Ishida wrote a nuanced, grounded yet engaging stories with characters that embody the licht und schatten of this world. The use of ghouls as a metaphor or rather analogue of human nature as a whole and society really makes you think on many themes and topics shown that are relavant even today yet we as a society still struggle with dealing. The psychological and philosophical complexities weaved into the narrative broaden the world and fleshed out the characters both introspectively and externally in comparison to how they interact with the world they live in, a grounded surealism that brings forth a fantastical exploration of the human nature and societal intricacies as a whole

Please forgive me if this is an inconvenience for you, but could you provide examples of how the ghouls are analogue for human nature? I personally haven't fully watched this series (I tried to get through the 1st season but got to the end of it and couldn't continue forward do to the level of gruesomeness and trauma kaneki had to endure); however, I've felt like the anime was more than just horror. If you wouldn't mind please providing examples of what you are stating as I have no reference since I haven't finished the series. P.S. please don't feel obligated. Thanks!

The scenes that this song appears is when Kaneki plays the building's tsukyoma and Karren tries to save it, the other scene is when Kaneki tries to destroy the dragon core where Rize is. "If, lets say, you were to write a story with me as the main character, it would certainly be a tragedy. No. Everyone’s the same, in fact. He’s the main character of his novel, and she’s the main character of her movie. All those that walk this earth are the main characters of their own tragedies. All steal, and from all, something is stolen. We can’t help it. That’s who we are. Steal, and be stolen. Imprison, and be imprisoned. Follow, and be followed. Do, and be done. Affirm and negate over and over. We fight ceaselessly to save ourselves from loss. And yet the people and places we love will one day surely be lost. We will all surely be forgotten. Life is sad. Empty. But, despite knowing we will one day be bereft, despite knowing we will one day disappear, we still strive in wretched ways. We still wish to be beautiful. And I consider. “Which one?” I choose. “This one.” Forever choosing, forever being chosen. Nothing more. Nothing less.” -Ken Kaneki
