I stayed on the women-only floor of a beautiful capsule hotel in Tokyo (女性専用エリア カプセルホテル 東京 日本). The name of the hotel is Smart Stay SHIZUKU (スマートステイしずく 品川大井町).
It is the latest capsule hotel that just opened in 2021 and is very popular.

京都駅前のSHIZUKUには何度かお世話になったけど、コロナ禍で無くなってしまい残念。 清潔で快適なお宿でした。この動画をみてインテリアが全く同じで懐かしくなった。

It is honestly great! I'm going to Japan in September and cannot wait to go to the hostels I booked! I wanted to try a capsule hostel as well but the fact that you cannot close them made me doubt (perhaps next time I will feel a bit more courageous? Try a women only capsule hostel first? 飛行機が朝イチだったので利用したことあるけど、ショート利用の人もいてとにかく受付が混んでてチェックインなかなかできない。出かける際も鍵をいちいち渡さなきゃなので待ってなきゃ行けなくて時間がかかりました…張り紙してるけど荷物も廊下に出されてたりハンガー外にかけたりしてあって…使いにくかった

How does a guest know their shower stall is clean? Couldn't someone have conceivably used it just prior to your entry? I never see an attendant, so seems someone could accidentally select a shower stall that hasn't been cleaned yet since the last usage.

So I've seen the fact that under japanese law they always state that the door can't be locked on capsule hotel doors. Can I get an explanation of why that is?

It's considered far more of a fire hazard for capsules than rooms. The fear is that the person inside would be trapped and burn to death.

Legally, it is classified as a simple accommodation facility, so you cannot lock it. It is true that many people will be staying here, but please rest assured that security and emergency exits are in place. However, if you are concerned about this, it might be better to stay at a regular hotel.

男性サウナは出来立ての時はガラガラで気持ち良かったけど、サ室の木が結構ボロボロになってきてる。 水風呂に頭から何回も入る日サロに行ってそうな黒い奴はいるし。
