I'll be doing this run next week any other recommendations? I was thinking of running along the Tama river

The Tama river is great for running as well, I run there often, actually. You could start around the Shimo-maruko or Chidori-cho and run a bit west to get to the river, then go either left or right along the river, whichever you're feeling. If you turn right and go north for about 7km, you can reach Futako-tamagawa, which is a nice endpoint.

Do you think it’s ok to run in the morning and take subway back home? I was worrying about the sweaty me in a packed subway😅 (I was planning to go to for this route but I live in Akihabara)

Good question, I’ve ridden the train drenched in sweat post-run several times and people don’t care too much, or at least don’t show it! People wearing masks can’t really smell BO strongly anyway… If you’d prefer taking a shower and changing, there is actually a really convenient place called Raffine Neo Running Style, a 6-minute walk from Yurakucho Station, and for a small fee you can use the lockers and showers there, so it is very popular for Kokyo Runners! They give you a wristband so you can run without any extra baggage, it’s quite nice!

@@JapanJacqueswhat about running from home to the loop/circuit? i'm visting Japan next year and is during my marathon training plan, just about 60 days before my race, so i want to keep running during my visit, not so much big long runs but several 5-10k to try and keep at least 40km/week still don't know where i'll be staying but i've been looking to spots near waterfronts/river and parks mostly, thinking of running early morning maybe

@@SinLord101 running within the city is definitely doable, most of my runs I end up meandering through various small side streets, even in Tokyo. As you’re thinking the waterfronts, rivers, and parks will be good if you want fresh air and not needing to stop for traffic, etc. Yoyogi Park, Meiji Jingu Gaien, Sarue Park to name a few. Would recommend checking to make sure nearby parks are not paid admission if you intend on running in them.

@@JapanJacques thank you for the recommendations! will have them in mind, didn't know the parks had admissions over there, is it common throught all of japan or mostly in Tokyo?

Typically just traditional gardens are the ones that have admission fees to get in (typically 300-500 yen or so), and those aren’t places you’d run anyways, but Tokyo has a couple big parks that require admission. Namely, Shinjuku Gyoen and Showa Memorial Park. Other than those should be safe bets for running!

Nice. What time was the run? Seemed pretty hot. Surprised to see so many runners. Haven't been back to tokyo for a few years. Used to do loops around. Glad to see the improvement works have all been completed.

I believe it was right around noon, so a nice and hot early summer day! I don’t do the Kokyo run that often but every time I go there’s a pretty healthy crowd out doing the loops.
